Dr William Heasman was born in 1862 and died in 1934. He made his debut for Sussex in 1885, and in 28 innings scored 593 runs, average 21.17. He also played for Berkshire and Norfolk, and in club cricket was a heavy scorer, making 236 not out for Aldborough v. Gunton Park in 1890, and 207 for United Hospitals v. Chiswick Park in 1887. He was one of the original members of the Sussex Martlets. In 1907 he was a member of the Philadelphian team which visited Bermuda. K. S. Duleepsinhji lived with Dr Heasman at Eastbourne for the necessary qualifying period in order to play for Sussex.
