Northern Districts 166 for 9 (Wilson 35, Milne 2-27) beat Central Districts 143 for 6 (Sinclair 63, Bracewell 37, Williamson 2-19) by 23 runs
Central Districts' poor run in the tournament continued with a 23-run defeat at the hands of Northern Districts at McLean Park in Napier. After being asked to bat, a collective batting effort from ND took them to a competitive 166 for 9. Opener Brad Wilson made a quick 35, wicketkeeper BJ Watling and captain Scott Styris chipped in with 26 and 21 respectively, and Peter McGlashan and Anton Devcich added some quick runs at the end. Adam Milne and Tarun Nethula picked up two wickets each but ND had managed enough.
CD lost captain Jamie How early and then, after a 26-run stand, Peter Ingram and Ross Taylor fell in quick succession. CD were in trouble at 61 for 4 but Mathew Sinclair and Doug Bracewell put together 68 for the fifth wicket. Sinclair made an 63 in 49 balls, and Bracewell blasted 37 in 22 but the pair could not bring down the required rate to an achievable limit. CD could only manage 143 for 6. Kane Williamson opened the bowling with his offspin and took 2 for 19 in four overs.
