Afghanistan 69 for 6 (Rahmat 24*, Aga 3-12) trail Kenya 162 (NN Odhiambo 35, Ahmadzai 2-23) by 93 runs
Scorecard

Kenya's dismal batting form continued in their Intercontinental Cup match against Afghanistan, as they were dismissed for 162 on a day in which 16 wickets tumbled in Dubai. At the close of play, however, Kenya had managed to fight back, reducing Afghanistan to a 69 for 6.

Playing without some of their regulars, like captain Mohammad Nabi, Shapoor Zadran and Nawroz Mangal, Afghanistan won the toss and put Kenya in to bat. The Kenyan top order failed once again and at 84 for 8, they looked in danger of being dismissed for a score of less than 100 for the fourth successive time, across formats. The lower order, however, resisted and led by Hiren Varaiya, the ninth and tenth-wicket stands contributed 78 runs.

Medium-pacers Izatullah Dawlatzai, Sayed Shirzad and Yamin Ahmadzai took two wickets apiece and triggered the top-order collapse. Left-arm spinner Mohammad Nasim Baras also took two wickets towards the end of the Kenya innings.

Afghanistan hardly fared better in their reply. The opening pair of Javed Ahmadi and Fazal Niazai added a cautious 26 runs before Ahmadi was caught behind off Nelson Odhiambo's bowling. That was to be the best partnership for Afghanistan on the day, as the Kenya attack, and fast bowler Ragheb Aga in particular, struck regularly to reduce them to 63 for 6. Aga finished the day with figures of 6-3-12-3. Rahmat Shah was the only batsman to hold steady and will be expected to guide the lower order as Afghanistan look to wipe out a deficit of 93 runs.

Gone are the days when Afghanistan was considered a minnow by the elite teams. We have risen the ranks under the radar; watch out for the lions in blue, they will take the 10 test nation's by surprise one after another. Today's Test match with Kenya indicates bench strength of the Afghanistan team. ICC has no other excuse but to facilitate matches for Afghanistan with full member countries if it truly want to promote the game as they claim. Afghanistan with its limited resources has done all it could which by the way is beyond everyone's comprehension as their quick rise is fairytale in world press around the globe. It is team they are given respect and be rewarded with recognition by facilitating matches between them and Test playing nations.

Well, Afghans are playing with 10 changes to their regular team not some changes and it is a good way to excel their ability as they have already qualified for the final, they giving a chance to their under 19s elite members and frankly speaking they have a great job tell now. This shows how much raw talent we have in Afghanistan which needs polishing, I am sure in near future they will have the best fast bowling attack in the world.

Hey Afghan fans sorry if have offended you but you should understand that the decision to field which ever players whether under 19 or other wise is or has not been forced on it is one taken by the coach players etc. And if they win well done but if they loose you should not shy away from criticism. As for Mr Tayebjee while he has all the right to say what he wants but maybe being a little supportive to your home team would be good as you do not leave your own in the time of need. I pray Kenyan cricket which has been down too long and the only way forward is we will rise again GOD WILLING.

Its good to see Afghanistan field a second string against sorry Kenyans. Kenya do not have second string. They play with the same side in all three formats of the game. This shows that the pool has shrunk.
