Nasir included in preliminary squad for WT20, Asia Cup

Nasir Hossain remains in contention for a spot in Bangladesh's playing XI after being named in the team's 25-member preliminary squad for the Asia Cup T20 and World T20. Nasir is among seven players in the list who are not part of the squad for the ongoing four-match T20 series against Zimbabwe.

Nasir was dropped altogether for the Zimbabwe matches following an underwhelming BPL campaign, as well as a poor outing during Bangladesh's previous series against Zimbabwe last November.

Liton Das, Mohammad Mithun, Ariful Haque, Shafiul Islam, Abul Hasan and Kamrul Islam Rabbi are the other players who have been called up. The call-up is a first in the preliminary squad for Ariful, while Rabbi had previously been picked in the squad last year for the series against Zimbabwe, though he did not play any game.

The players will train in Khulna from January 23 to 31 before gathering again in Chittagong for a second training phase, from February 7 to 18. Bangladesh are scheduled to play eight practice matches among themselves during this time, and will return to Dhaka to start the Asia Cup, slated to begin on February 24.

Shakib Al Hasan, Tamim Iqbal and Mushfiqur Rahim are supposed to be heading to the UAE to play in the PSL during the training period, while the BCB is also yet to decide on whether they will give Mustafizur Rahman the NOC to play in that tournament.

Bangladesh's preliminary squad: Tamim Iqbal, Soumya Sarkar, Imrul Kayes, Liton Das, Mosaddek Hossain, Mushfiqur Rahim, Mohammad Mithun, Nurul Hasan, Shakib Al Hasan, Mahmudullah, Nasir Hossain, Sabbir Rahman, Shuvagata Hom, Ariful Haque, Arafat Sunny, Mashrafe Mortaza, Mustafizur Rahman, Abu Hider Rony, Al-Amin Hossain, Shafiul Islam, Mohammad Sahid, Abul Hasan, Taskin Ahmed, Kamrul Islam Rabbi, Muktar Ali

Nothing could be better than this team selection for Bangladesh for the upcoming Asia cup T20 & World T20... 1.Tamim Iqbal, 2.Soumya Sarkar/Imrul Kayes*, 3.Sabbir Rahman, 4.Mushfiqur Rahim, 5.Shakib Al Hasan, 6.Mahmudullah, 7.Nasir Hossain/Nurul Hasan*, 8.Mashrafe Mortaza, 9.Arafat Sunny, 10.Al-Amin Hossain/Abu Hider Rony*/Taskin Ahmed*, 11.Mustafizur Rahman, *will be warm the benches of dressing room as alternatives

And urgueably best BD XI: (1) Tamim (2) Soumya (3) Nurul/ Riyad (4) Mushfiq (wk) (5) Sabbir (6) shakib (7) Nasir (8) Muktar (9) Mashrafe (10) Mustafiz (11) Al-Amin. I suppose positions (1)-(2), (4)-(7), (9)-(11) are agreeable for most of us fans. Since batting is the missing link, I chose Nurul/ Riyad for no. (3) because both of them need a little time to settle and after two big hitter openers we can afford one steady batter who can come in handy to check a rather common collapse in BD opening batting. Rest of the batters batting one down doesn't matter coz seemingly none of them take time to produce big shots. As the alrounder at no. (8) I chose Muktar Ali coz he has good stats and been doing well in A team quite some time. I bet he can be our next so called "T20 specialist" after Sabbir.

I thought Rubel and Anamul were worthy of being at least in the top 25 list. I hope they aren't injured or anything. Anyway the best 16 from the current squad is quite obvious- 6 Bowlers: Mustafiz, Al-Amin, Taskin, Haider, Arafat; 5 Batsmen: Tamim, Soumya, Mushfiq (wk), Nurul (wk), Sabbir ; 5 Alrounders: Shakib, Nasir, Mahmudullah, Mashrafe, Muktar. If it comes down to 14-men squad then I'm afraid I'd let Haider and Mahmudullah go but keep Muktar and Taskin. Can't let Nurul go coz he is the back-up wicket-keeper. Kayes or Hom isn't good enough to prevail in my best 16.

where is jahurul haq omi????didn't he had a better BPL than mosaddek, suvagoto, nasir, mokhter, ariful?????anamul is much better a good power hitter than all of those...........why they are not taken in the 25 man squad???

Bangladesh will have a tougher time in t20s. Bangladesh has always been in general better in ODIs. While I don't think this Bangladesh team will play to their full potential here, I would be looking forward to the ICC Champions Trophy. In my opinion though, on the lineup, I would leave out some of the more inexperienced players like Kamrul Islam Rabbi, go with the main team they've gone with in the ODIs. The world cup is not a place for experimentation. Not everyone will be a Mustafizur Rahman. I also think Bangladesh should have added Abdur Razzak to the squad along with Sohag Gazi and Nasir Hossain. I dont think Bangladesh will be able to go far in this tournament, but lets hope for the best.

Why Alok Kapali is not in the team ? This team is not capable to go beyond 180 persistently ! Experimentation should have been in the batting, not the bowling.... Except Sabbir and Shoummya no real clean hitter in the team. Shakib and Tamim are not hungry of doing better. Mahmudullah Mushfik not capable of doing a miracle. You have to find one or two Maxwell/De villiers/Afridi/Pollard/Thisara Perera who dont need to see balls to be set to start hitting. Bangladesh bowling is good but batting needs improvement and clean hitters. The team with Nazim Uddin, Ashraful, Aftab, Alok Kapali were way stronger in batting than this team. They literally chased down 160 of the WI within 16 overs in the first world t20. Bring them back for at least t 20.

Without Ashraful, Aftab and Alok Kapali Bangladesh t 20 team is very weak....

Bangla supporter always comment that anamul is highly talented habibul is highly talented but fact is that they don't have good latent only hitting the ball on flate track against mirror team is not talent. And i think that is the reason aussies don't want to wast there time in bangladesh.

  • john on January 22, 2016, 14:16 GMT

Good selection atleast this guy having some hiiting ability though he doesn't have technic to play odi but which other bangladeshi batsman having good technic no one. That is the reason why bangladesh not win single test in last 18 years.
