Umar Gul and Umar Akmal pulled off a spectacular coup to bring Pakistan back from the brink to beat South Africa. The second round of the tournament started with two thrillers on Thursday and the fire carried over into Friday as the match swung three times.

Pakistan put themselves in front with a strong performance in the field as their four frontline spinners wove a web around South Africa. But what should have been a straightforward chase for Pakistan turned into a comedy of soft dismissals and a surprising outfoxing of the batsmen by the South African spinners.

Then, Gul and Umar Akmal took centre stage and shared a stand of 49 in 27 balls for the eighth wicket to inflict a demoralising defeat on South Africa. The pair stroked a series of audacious boundaries as they took on South Africa's pace attack with Jacques Kallis and Albie Morkel the worst hit. To add to South Africa's worries, Dale Steyn left the field with an injured ankle after being struck in his final over.

South Africa will reflect on a number of tactical errors, rather than simply being outplayed. Talking points will centre on be AB de Villiers batting at No. 6, instead of higher up the order and Johan Botha and JP Duminy only bowling two overs each on a pitch that clearly had something in it for spinners -Kallis and Albie Morkel could have been used less.

For Pakistan the strategy may not matter. They take the points and the advantage in the group after looking as though they would at the halfway stage, almost giving it away and then snatching it back in some style to ensure their early efforts did not go to waste.

Only JP Duminy had some measure of the Pakistan attack as the rest of the line-up were troubled and tied down by turn. Raza Hasan did the early containing job, setting the stage for the introduction of Saeed Ajmal, who bowled Richard Levi around his as the opener attempted a reverse sweep to the first ball he faced from Ajmal.

Smart stats

  • The win is Pakistan's third in six Twenty20 internationals against South Africa. All three wins have come in World Twenty20 matches.
  • South Africa's score of 28 at the end of six overs is their second-lowest Powerplay score (20-over innings). The score at the end of ten overs (47) is also their lowest in a Twenty20 international.
  • The number of maiden overs bowled in the game (4) is the joint second-highest in a Twenty20 international. It is the second such instance in matches at the Premadasa stadium.
  • Robin Peterson's economy rate (3.75) is his best for a completed spell of four overs. He is also the eighth South African bowler to concede 15 or fewer runs in a completed spell in a World Twenty20 match.
  • The 49-run stand between Umar Akmal and Umar Gul is the second-highest eighth-wicket stand for Pakistan in Twenty20 internationals. Overall, it is the sixth-highest eighth-wicket stand.
  • Gul's 32 is the second-highest score by a batsman batting at a position between 9 and 11. It is however the highest such score in a World Twenty20 game.

Mohammed Hafeez accounted for Jacques Kallis, who slapped his first ball to cover and South Africa were in serious trouble at 28 for 3. Despite the situation, AB de Villiers chose to hold himself back and Farhaan Berhardien came in ahead of him.

He and Duminy shared a stand of 38 and built the platform De Villiers may have been waiting for. Behardien played two shots in anger before he was stumped and De Villiers finally made his entrance at No. 6. He had seven and a half overs to make an impact but managed 25 runs while Duminy continued to play the anchor role. He suffered from dehydration during his innings and vomited on the field but was able to bowl later on. Given the conditions, some may say he should have bowled more.

Pakistan were in a worse situation than South Africa early on. Imran Nazir gloved an attempted pull to de Villiers and then Robin Peterson found turn and bounce to have Hafeez and Nasir Jamshed stumped in the same over. Kamran Akmal was bowled playing a cut that was not on off Johan Botha and Pakistan were 37 for 4.

Umar Akmal played a Duminy-like innings, taking advantage of anything loose and full and holding back for the rest of the time. He was not shaken by Shoaib Malik handing a catch to third man, Shahid Afridi falling for a golden duck after smashing Duminy to the long-off fielder or Yasir Arafat fending a short ball to Duminy who took a spectacular catch at midwicket.

The two dismissals Duminy was involved in looked to spell the end for Pakistan but Gul was reading a different script. He made his intent known when he clubbed Kallis for back-to-back sixes on the on-side, picking up the length well. Umar Akmal let Gul go wild while he held up his end and Gul obliged.

Gul holed out to Petersen on the cover boundary but he had done enough damage. Umar Akmal's eyes lit up when Morne Morkel offered him a full toss and he hit it flat over midwicket to leave Saeed Ajmal to seal the win with an outside edge to third man.

Innings Dot balls 4s 6s PP1 Last 5 overs NB/Wides

@Akhtar Ali if u have any commen sense then u would not ask to take out ur frontline bowler out and put a batsman in !! who will bowl 4 overs for u ?? Asad shafiq ?? wow @amk232 though a good idea of bringing Razzaq in but u must be suffering with short term memory loss as Super over against asutralia was bowled by Umer Gul and Razzaq with bowling and Yasir Arafat with his fielding took the match to the Super Over !

This match between the two best bowling sides in the world, Pakistan & South Africa, was far more entertaining and exciting than a boring high-scoring-pitch-match. I love it when the hopes fell on a lower-order-batsmen, like Umar Gul, to smash world class bowlers, like Steyn & Morkel, for six.

Deja vu - The match that Windies pulled off against England a few years ago - Ian Bradshaw and Courtney Browne staged a similar stunner from a seemingly hopeless situation or even the one that Mahela Jayawardene and Kumar Dharmasena pulled off against India after SL being 7 down for less than 100 chasing 200 plus, the only difference being that they were in ODIs. Congrats Pakistan - you deserve a semis spot!

After tomorrow's match if India looses,Dhoni is gonna lost his captaincy for sure. If Pak looses, well nothing would happened. We still have one more game left after that :P

Abdul Razzaq(AR) must in the Pakistani side for the match against India, there is no comparison between AR and Yasir Arafat. Because of AR talent/ability he was given the Super Over against Australia in UAE in the presence of the current Pakistani attack. Did he stood the challenge? We all know the answer.

I'm baffled as to why Pakistan are not playing Razzaq. He's an overall better player than Yasir Arafat. And I don't know why Umar Gul is playing, I think they should try out Sami instead, he's had good games against India in the past. Also, I think Shoaib Malik should be given some bowling too, he's a handy offspinner. I think their lineup for next game should be: Hafeez, Nazir, Jamshed, K Akmal, U Akmal, Malik, Razzaq, Afridi, Sami, Ajmal, Hasan.

Job well done...Pakistan...! I am die hard Indian fan...but always cheer for Pakistan doing well. Its nice to see this team doing well..! You're one of the most exciting & wonderful team to watch. Afridi needs to focus he's grt potential but not playing to it. Umar Gul is always special...but hardly anybody knew he can hit really hit this hard..! Feels missing Misbah & Wahab Riaz....Would love see you guys going all the way to the end...Good luck to Team Pakistan & fans........fron Indian Cric Fan

Pakistan did what only Pakistan can do - the unthinkable! SA probably are thinking this is not a bad thing - lose one early rather than win everything before a knock out game! I still fail to understand why AB doesnt bat at #3. It makes as little sense as India leaving out Sewag.

I am very disappointed in your expert Harsha Bhogla's comments during Pakistan and South Africa match yesterday. He kept on predicting/suggesting Pakistan defeat before the arrival of Gul. Shame on him in taking sides and must apologize.

someone really a fool comparing umer akmal with the hilarious Misbah !! Misbah is always been a match looser , so many matches made so close and then create a Loss from no where thats MISBAH !! Afridi is ur frontline wicket taking spinner ND A MATCH WINNER in any field he clicks , so cant be exchanged with the fluffy Razaaq who did nothing with bat in his last few inning with the bat like afridi but his bowling too has been with economy rate of 8-10 rpo.. so just a super fool may wish such an excahge ! May be yasir Arafat can make a way for razaaq to make our batting a bit strongger if he clocks wid bat !!!

Although this win is a win but one should learn few things out of positives as well. Nobody on this earth knows why Abdul Razzaq is not the part of playing eleven as there is no comparison of Yasir Arafat and Abdul Razzaq. Moreover, if Hafeez has categorically decided that Shoib will not bowl a single over in a match and will play as a batsman only THEN ASAD SHAFIQ IS A BETTER CHOICE AND OFCOURSE HE IS A BETTER BATSMAN THAN SHOIB....

@All Afridi Haters: I feel pity for those who are blaming Afridi. 2007WC, 2009WC, 2010 WC and now 2012WC, there has been only one thing common, constant and consistent in these world cups for Pakistan, that is Afridi. I agree that he has failed as a batsman in the last 10 matches, but that is too small a reason to drop him. He is low on confidence and needs fan support at this time. Why dont you guys talk about Malik's and Gul's performances in the last year. They have been far far worse than Afridi's !!!!

Posted by   on (September 29, 2012, 8:37 GMT)

congrats to pakistan... it was a great comeback but it is time that the batsmen take more responsibility in playing their strokes specially imran would be interesting to see afridi as an operner with hafeez and the addition of abdul razzaq who can take afridi's current batting order and ofcourse no more imran nazir... afridi can still offer a lot in this format as an opener. it is a very short format of cricket if he can play through the powerplay, things will be very different for the rest of the pakistani batsmen to handle which are ofcourse not very great, hopefully whatever they do turns in favour of pakistan ... good luck to pakistan,,,,

wh0aa..... the way PAK batted they did not deserve the win but in the it was the prayers from the fans which brought us home . Malik is just useless. Asad Shafiq should be in for him. And all those Akmal fans???? Again he showed his worth. Even his brother is a better keeper than him. Cheers!!!!

The saying that a cricket match is not over till the last ball is bowled or last run is scored was truly on show in the Pakistan-South Africa Super Eight game. Everyone was on edge till Saeed Ajmal edged a ball for four to hand Pakistan a win in a match that was almost lost by them. Such matches keep the cricket fans glued to their TV sets.

Nasir Jamshed, Muhammad Hafeez should watch the replays and got to know what they did wrong, and make some lesson learnt out of it. This is the way of learning and improving. Coach should have some words with Afridi, take it easy use your brain, settle first make 10 runs on slower pace, then play shots.

Posted by mazii on (September 29, 2012, 6:55 GMT)

After seeing all the rubbish comments, I decided to step in this emotional discussion. At the end Pakistan won the match. Pakistani batsmen played some pathetic shots and gave their wicket away, so did South Africa. Pakistani bowlers, as usual, lived up to their expectations. And we know that Pakistani batsmen have been vulnerable- not because they don't have technique but because they have a reputation of being choked. Hafeez gave first over to Raza, and when I saw some drift then I realized that SA batsmen were going to struggle and thats exactly what happened. Hafeez created an untangled web around SA batsmen and they trapped in it. As a Pakistani fan, I do say that It was not an unlikely win, but as a neutral observer, I must say it was a lucky one. Umer Akmal played an innings of his life. Umar Gul provided the much needed momentum with his outstanding sixes- he was treat to watch. AB knew that Umar akmal play spin well, so it might be the reason or he might have confused.

A great and important win for Pakistan. They bowled really well to restrict SA to just 134 and then Started well with the bat too but after that they started gifting wickets to SA bowlers. Hafeez, Jamshed, Kamran Akmal, Afridi and Arafat These five players gifted their wickets. But at the End it was Umar Gul and Umar Akmal who did the Job for Pakistan .. Well Done. Now to all those individuals who saying "Drop Afridi". Come on Guys accept it that he is now more a Bowler than Batsman. His Four Overs are valuable and he is bowling well. despite of Dropping Afridi, Pak management should think about Replacing Yasir Arafat with Adul Razaq. It will be a Killing combination.

Congratulations for winning this game. Luck has played a vital role in winning this match otherwise it would have been negative result. How long you will give chance to Shoaib Mallik and Afridi. They are a burden on the part of the team, espeically Shoaib Mallik. I feel disgusting whenever I see Shoaib Mallick is battingh just like a street cricketer. It is my sincere advice to drop him from the team and give a chance to Asad Shafiq. To me Asad Shafiq is much better than Mallik.

So, When everyone in this world is afraid of Steyn, Morkel and co. Then Umar gul showed the way how to hit them out of ground. How many players in this world can paly same innings against S.A as gul did, I think no one can play in such a pressure that gul did. Kallis, Amla and co don't know how to play Pak bowlers. Pakistan has shut the mouth of their haters by exposing S.A batting and S.A bowling and also lazy amla fielding.

Posted by shovwar on (September 29, 2012, 5:01 GMT)

First of all I give it to Umar Gul for that brave innings. Congratulation Gul. He single handedly beat SA. As simple as that. Though Pakistan almost snatch defeat from the jaw of a victory. I predicted this game to be a low scoring game. But I was lil wrong on my prediction. I predicted SA to be bowled out by a strong Pak attack at around 150. But SA was below that. They did not bat to their full potential. I predicted a SA victory with 150 on the board cos i believe that they can defend 150 with Pakistan. But 133 would always be less and it was Pakistan's game to lose which they almost did. Gotta give credit to SA to pull the match all the way to the wire. Brilliant bowling and fielding. This is not a knock out match so SA shouldn b worried. But if i was the captain of the SA team maybe i could have done better than wat AB did at the depth bowling. And I am pretty sure about that.

congratulations to Pakistani team once again. i think if mohammad hafeez is not using shoaib malik as a bowler, than it is better to play asad shafiq in place of him.secondly, regarding afridi, i think the coach and captain should have a word with him, tell him to try to settle down first, than start playing some ground shorts, rather than playing in the air to the fielder from the first ball he is facing, i know it is a difficult job , but who knows, afridi might do it, after all we need him at least for this all important tournament.eys, the SA captain made some strange decisions in the game, so did dhoni ,the biggest of them was not playing sehwag in this match, with this bowling , i dont think india will be able to win this event.

Great win indeed so it was a Misbah type of innings from Umar Akmal to win the match. He waited for the bad balls picked runs off the good bowlers like Styne and Morkel. Pakistan needed some one like Miabah in the middle to play around and not give his wicket away and Umar Akmal did just that.

Posted by   on (September 28, 2012, 23:37 GMT)

No need to criticize SA. They have played an excellent game. I have been watching and playing cricket for 30 years. You can't rely on spinners in the final overs. Just remember Saeed Ajmal vs mike hussy in the last T20 WC. The SA fast bowlers couldn't handle the pressure. there is no need to try slow deliveries when tail enders are playing. AB made the right decision, but fast bowlers made couple of mistakes. For tail enders and proper batsmen, it is easier to face spinners in the last few overs. Anyway, thanks for the great show.

Posted by   on (September 28, 2012, 23:32 GMT)

This was a great match, every one in the crowd was dead silent till Umar Gul hit the two sixes in a row, I think Kallis made the mistake of doing the unfair unwritten law of bowling a bouncer to a tail end'er , or a fast bowler. In this case the fast bowler hit the first bouncer for a six, and then the next ball for another six, rest is history. However I was in the crowd with Australians , South Africans, Indians and Pakistani's, both Pakistani's and Indians were hooting for each other , a sight that I used to think only existed in Silicon valley where they Indians and Pakistani's work so well together, however we shall see tomorrow when they face each other in yet another clash. India must win to survive , Pakistan will want to win to grab a place in the Semi's.

Well done Umar and Gul. SA bowlers didn't bowl yorkers & that resulted in Gul to swing the ball well. While Pakistan won this match, most of us will forget the horrible mistakes that were made during the chase of relativly easy target. Nasir Jamshed showed that the so-called 'Miandad factor' is contributing not a 'BIT' in improving the batsmen's mindsets. The coaches and the staff are not helping the team to develop the mentality to read the game plan & execute accordingly. Kamran played a horrible shot... Afridi, I wonder how long it will take the management & the fans & Afridi to call it the 'Day'. Shoaib Malik-Mr.Experience, what worth he has in playing such innings? any first class batsman can perform better. He seriously has some good contacts to be in this team after all such performances. Razzaq is being wasted. The way Yasir/Tanvir are performing, Razzaq can easily beat them on the bowling form, not forgetting his much added value with the bat. Pakistan got lucky today!

Thankx To All Mighty Allah We Won A Great Match I Hope InshahAllah We Will Go All Out And Won The T20 World Cup...Thats Not Only Dhoni And Pathan Other Indians As Well Cheering For South Africa When Pakistani Wickets Going Down

Gul has demonstrated his hitting power, he must be promoted in the batting line ahead of .

Thinking about it logically these three (Afridi/Malik/Arafatshould) should be dropped. Instead bring on Asad Shafiq/Razzaq/Youngster!

Posted by saintsinister on (September 28, 2012, 21:34 GMT)

Sanjay Sanjay SANJAY!!! " SA will take a lot of confidence from this win" :D come on Manjrekar.. by now u should have known about brilliant individual performances by Pakis.. thats wat gives us the edge.. even though Pakistan virtually did gift this match.. took it away from SA in start due to bowling, gave it to them by their famous batting collapses and then right at the end took it away. Only disappointment i had was when Nasir Jamshed got out.. He is the one true exceptional batsman we have.. I just hope Guly takes this confidence into his bowling as well, then we might be a team that will be hard to beat. GO PAKIS GOO!!! the cup is there for the taking.. Sunday is the time to break the record of no wins against India.. Plz dont gift that match away as we have always done in the past cups..

Posted by Dark.Matter on (September 28, 2012, 21:29 GMT)

@class-apart yes SA don't have plan B but they really have plan "C" and they really implement it very well on the ground especially in major ICC events. It really works .

Posted by mr.yaz on (September 28, 2012, 21:24 GMT)

well as we all now south africa is a big team for a small match and a small team for the big match :)

Posted by   on (September 28, 2012, 21:23 GMT)

if Pakistan claims they are no 1 then they must have to change their attitude, Also i dont want Pakistan coach teaching them batting and bowling, i just want him to inject in their minds "how professionals undertake theri profession!"Further I want our fielding coach to teach them the right way to attack ball on the field, how to convert half chances into catches and run outs, they must hit the wicket 8 out of 10. Good teams save 15 to 30 runs on average in each match only by doing good fielding.

Posted by vrn59 on (September 28, 2012, 21:17 GMT)

I feel sorry for SA; they came back very well with the ball and looked certain to win the match right until the point when Umar Gul exploded. The middle order was previously untested, and struggled against the spinners, and de Villiers batted way too low down the order! Botha should have been used more with the ball rather than Albie Morkel. I hope Dale Steyn's injury is not serious and that he is fully fit for the next match: he bowled wonderfully today on a pitch otherwise dominated by spinners. I feel that Pakistan were lucky to get away with this, as their batting could not cope with the quality of the SA bowling attack. Umar Akmal showed an unusual amount of maturity and he must be given a lot of credit for that. I still don't understand why exactly Malik is in the team; he does nothing with the bat or the ball in any match! Afridi's batting is irresponsible; the number of ducks he's got recently is huge, and the No. 7 spot looks unsteady.

Posted by skipcarver on (September 28, 2012, 21:12 GMT)

Let's not call this a great win. It was similar toAus-Pak semi final in the last T20 World cup when Pak bowlers lost the plot. Flukes like Umar Guls inning may win a game but not championships. Also, Afridi must be replaced by Abdul Razzak.

Posted by ali433 on (September 28, 2012, 21:04 GMT)

Shahid Afridi Needs to take a break and let the boys take on....... He is now a Burden on the Team..... I have lots of respect for him. but if he continue to drag the team down... he will loose it very soon.

Posted by   on (September 28, 2012, 21:01 GMT)

yeyy Team Pakistan you did great. But we should learn from the mistakes. first 3 players went out for their own mistakes.. Nazir playing a silly shot, Hafeez coming out, Jamshed trying to ride on the 2nd delivery he was a facing, then Kamran Akmal had a good ball to get out, Malik was sensible but he lost his cool very soon.. Gul can only play such knock once in a tournament, so you cannot realise on him all the time.. Top order should perform better against india. Shahid should be given rest and Abdul Razzaq should come in against india.. Perfect Team.

Congrats to all my Pak brothers...if India isn't winning then my second most favourite team is Pakistan.

Posted by BravoBravo on (September 28, 2012, 20:59 GMT)

Great match, Congrats to both team for "NEVER-GIVE-UP-ATTITUDE" kind of philosophy. It is not that SA played bad, but PAK played very well and in the end only one tream wins. In T20 only 2 or 3 player for any team need to click to WIN the game for their team. It was 2 'Umars' game today. So far in the T20 tournament, undoubtedly, most entertaining matches were those where PAK participated.

Posted by K2C1 on (September 28, 2012, 20:48 GMT)

I agree to a certain extent; Afridi needs to be taught a lesson- the guy's batting is so inconsistent and careless or should I say mindless that he does not deserve a place in the team; he is a liability! Yes he can take wickets or restrict runs but apart from his match winning knock in the second T20 final against Sri Lanka, he cannot be an automatic choice>

Posted by   on (September 28, 2012, 20:37 GMT)

Basically Gul kept on attacking SA bowlers for 4 overs. all those overs were bowled by fast bowlers. If I would be in place of AB Dev then I would have given the ball to Botha or Duminy. Duminy conceded 5 runs and a wicket in 2 overs Botha concded 10 runs and a wicket + 1 maiden out of his 2 overs. Poor decision by SA Captain to keep attacking with pacers whereas spinners had done good job and had overs left to bowl.

Awesome audacious performance from Umar Akmal, lucky 6s from Umar Gul :)

Umar Akmal deserves applause, he did not loose temprament, and Afridi lala, learn from your juniors now, man its shame the way you gave away your wicket and at what point man :(

CHOCKER (RSA) chocked again and SHOCKERS (Pak) shocked again. pak batting was pathetic but their bowling was way wayy better than RSA. RSA was spinned by paki spinners but pak batmen again shocked the world with their irresponsible shots....gul will always feel proud on what he did today

Posted by ALATIFUSMAN on (September 28, 2012, 20:00 GMT)

first of all this match Pakistan should not have won this match. but luck was on thier side. good for Pakistan. Pakistan should bench Afridi the guy should go to psychiatrist and do some brain storming. they should bring Asad Shafiq that will atleast bolster pak batting as they already a leg spiner and two off spiners. and two fast bowlers. that should them good. (i am a pakistani supporter).

please drop afridi he is doing horrible he is not in form we got enough spin bowlers to face any team out there afridi is way wayyyyy over rated give him a game off to think about his failures... also please play abdul razzaq he far more experienced and can bow med fast pretty well with no risk..give him a chance...afridi needs to be demoted...look at afridi last 10 games he has more ducks and low scoring games then any one else...he is doing bad...he should retire or get put in the domestic league to get his form back... pakistan has potential and the game require to beat india and australia doubt about it...go pak go...pakistan zindabad

Posted by Heart_break_mashom on (September 28, 2012, 19:41 GMT)

What is the meaning of "unlikely win"? It should be more like "Pak stuns SA with comeback". And the way this article is written. Makes me wana break my laptop. And not just this one, the other one about SA dealing with the loss is also strange. None of them mentions Pakistan's bowling skill that they restricted. a quality batting side to just 133. Cricinfo blamed NZ errors the cause of Pak win. They made excuses about Bangladesh's bowling and not admitting Pak was awesome. And this match again they blamed they didn't use botha enough and de Velliers not coming up the order. Guess what, Pak made the right choices and won in the end.

And people please stop going against Afridi, and look at past records of world cup. Pak players always start bad and then gamechanging match and they the players then perform so well to go on to win the world cup. The match with New Zealand in 2009 world cup was the game changer and I think this match was as well. Just stay patient and pray

sorry to say firdous moonda is as cynical as one can be. Please show some respect to other team's effort the headline is a terrible one. There are other teams and players around in this world than SA stop being thinking that SA is invincible...and any team winning against them is ulikely winner...

Give some balls to see your eyes and than go for hits. Cmon you are not that young anymore who can bash any ball. use your experience and brain. you are much better player than this pathetic show.

Posted by Nutcutlet on (September 28, 2012, 18:58 GMT)

I'm afraid captaincy lost this game for SA. It's what comes of not adapting predetermined plans. For 7/8ths of the game, SA was level, or winning & then it comes to the death overs and, just like Broad for England, there is no flexibility in thought from AB. The quicks have to return for the last 4 or 5 overs. Why? This was a slow bowlers' match and there were 4 overs in their locker! Madness! There are two sides who are suffering from poor captaincy at the moment: SA & England. SA has got a depth in quality players that England hasn't, but even they cannot make up for unimaginative, inflexible captaincy. If SA doesn't make it to the semis, their disappointment will be the greater, I think. Just because there's a C word that hovers over SA, there's no need for AB to put the collar round his team's own neck!

That's why afridi try to hit and free tense... Gul is lucky that he got fast bowlers .... And I think Pakistan must rearrange batting line up... Hafees demoted no.5 or no.6... Afridi should bat no.3.... Nasir jamshed and imran nazirshould open the innings... Other position is ok.. and one think, replace Malik razzak.... This would be help Pakistan if they want to win trophy...... best wishes for afridi and pak......

Utterly dissappointed with Cricinfo's should have instead be: "Gulldozer and Akmal snatched victory from the mouth of SA"...its sick to see cricket maniacs and analysts always understimating Pak team despite of them being the BEST T20 side and the only one who have made it to the death rounds in ALL of its History! For all the haters out there...i am sooo proud of my team and their victory today and cant wait for the day when both their batting and bowling clicks at once then ppl dont be surprise if u see this team in the finals and inshaAllah win it for the nation!

Great win by Pakistanis. What a game of cricket. What a performance by Umar Gul. He is my favourite pakistan player after SLPL. Sindabad pakistan. Make your way to semis.

Posted by Stark62 on (September 28, 2012, 18:13 GMT)

Oh here we go, blame it on Afridi game starts again!!

Why don't those people ask themselves, what were the top order doing (except Umar Akmal)?!?!

If they had done their job, then Afridi wouldn't have been needed to bat, plus he bowled well today again and he has been good through out the tournament, so far.

Anyway, the turning point for me was the wicket of Nasir Jamshed because he is the only Pak batsmen that is aggressive and stable.

Posted by   on (September 28, 2012, 18:10 GMT)

Dont boast about the win of PAK... If you are not hypnotised you can see clearly what has happened today.....OK> See the playbility of SA s. And compare it,,,, not only with Pakistan,, but with any team that are playing in Super8s...The cricketing talents, athletability, aim, quickliness, accuracy.....of SA s,, are excellent, Those qualities are far away from Pak, players,,,not only from Pak only, but frm, all others also...But,,, SA lacks one thing. It is TACTICS..... It is very clear to anyone because AB had not used spinners while the pacers were hit hard... :(((... We saw how Pak were struggled a lot in front of Peterson also ( He is not SA's best spinner)...How hard it was in front of Johan Botha?? and Duminy??? Everyone saw that... But at last AB failed to give the ball to those two because of the lack of TACTICKS... Not any thing....Oh sad... Im not accusing to anyone.. But in this game.....THE EXCELLENT TEAM IS DEFETED.. nOt by Pak,, but by their own mistakes,,,LACKING TACTICKS

Poor batting performance by Pakistan, I hope Hafeez shows his maturity as he has for some time and best forgets this. He should look at what went wrong and address those issues. T20 is a game where on a given day there is no minnow. So Pakistan will have to be at their BEST against India because India won't let this go so easily, they still have a world cup winning side. Best wishes to Pakistan for future games, this was never a match for Gul or Akmal to win for Pakistan. Nevertheless, they've made us all proud!

to all the people asking for a headline change: This was written by Firdose Moonda a very passionate cricket lover and a patriotic South African. She was most probably shaken up a bit after that loss and yeah the match changed suddenly and Pakistan won from an unlikely position. That's the truth. No need to for all those negative comments.

gra8 entertainment by PAKISTANI batsmen. it was a v.nervous day fr Umer Gul bt he proved to some idiot analysts tht he's a match winner. abt team players' change, i wd like to see razak in place of arafat and asad shafiq in place of afridi. f still they wana go wid afridi, thn he shud open in batting fr PAK else his stats show tht he never batted well on other positions. abt hafiz captaincy, he's v.stupid. once he gets wickets and puts pressure, he comes with his own balling and settles the batsmen. instead he shud attack with his main ballers to build more pressure and get wickets, as AB did thru his spinners.i hop our team perfrm well against india n dangerous Ausies..!

Hi All, Afridi should open the innings with Imran Nazir, that would push hafeez into 3rd position and would stengthen the middle order Afridi is a match winner if he is given the confidence who could be at his best. Encourage him to do best he can change the things for pakistan very easily. Bring him as the opener and ask him to do his best when the fielders are in most of his shots reach the boundary without any problem. Change the down for Afridi. instead of Shoaib malik bring in Hamad he is very reliable and needs to be given the opportunity if pakistan wants to have real power in there batting.

I hate to see Kamran Akmal's comic smile when he miss a catch, a stumping chance or a runout chance. Afridi... why is he in the Pak team. He has no brains for crunch situations. Thanks for Gul's aggression, Pak team turned an impossible situation to a possible one. Wish they play more sensibly against the Indians. As Hafeez says Pakistan was extremely lucky to get away with this one but it did remind me of those close WC encounters of the 70s between the mighty WI and Imran led pak team.

what writer "Mr. Firdose Moonda"? its unlikely after SA made 133? i think you should start doing something else, @cricinfo plz find some one else.

Posted by   on (September 28, 2012, 16:25 GMT)

I think most of the writer in Cricinfo need to go and check the definition of "unpretictability". We as Green Shirt fans are fed up with this, whether we win or lose, negative commentary and headlines.

Posted by   on (September 28, 2012, 16:16 GMT)

SA had the heat of the day and the unknown wicket factor.Coupled with this was the poor tactics by AB.SA is a fine outfit and will bounce back.Change Barhadien and put in Faf.

Posted by SICHO on (September 28, 2012, 16:14 GMT)

With AB captaining like this, we won't see any silverware, not this one. He single handedly turned victory into a defeat, after seeing Kallis go for 17 in one over, how can he persist with Albie Morkel while Botha and Duminy had 2 overs left each on a pitch that wasn't easy to score off spinners? Wow, well done AB.

Posted by ABRAR-JANJUA on (September 28, 2012, 16:13 GMT)

@shamlaatu 100% Agreed Man, Cricinfo Staff must show neutral attitude...& Mr.Moonda must also accept that their Choker Team was defeated badly...

Posted by   on (September 28, 2012, 16:12 GMT)

It's a shame that SA seldom win the BIG ones. The ones that make teams great. When the tough games come, we're out. This game was done and dusted, then our famous "choking" behaviour crept back in. Many other teams would have won this one, if they were in the position we found ourselves in.

As i said before. SA never have plan B

Posted by BokkeForever on (September 28, 2012, 16:05 GMT)

AB really bottled this. Agree with a lot of comments below. I think he has totally misread the game. Why on earth take the spinners off after they straggled the run rate to such an extent that it was up to 12 an over. Equally baffling is him coming in so late to bat. SA now very much up against it to go through.

Posted by Atifkhan3489 on (September 28, 2012, 16:01 GMT)

I think umar akmal has played best ining of his career.gul also played wining first match has better chance of reaching semifinal.

The four team will make to the semi-finals are Aus,Pak,SL and Wi. The others in super 8 should wait for the next T20 WC to come into super 8 again!!! No guarantee for them to make to semi-final in future again!!!

Posted by   on (September 28, 2012, 15:59 GMT)

I think they should put Afridi in test matches. He is not worthy for T20 any more. Gud thing they havn't put Sohail tanveer in the match. he is lazy as hen :p Lesson learned: for T20 spinners are best to control the score.

I think its about time they drop Shahid Afridi. They have got another spinner in the form of Raza hasan. That should do. Afridis slot can be filled by Abdul Razaq.

The problem with RSA, England and Australia is the unwillingness to accept the importance of spinners in sub-continent. That is why they are loosing. Well, for RSA we could also say they choked as usual.

Posted by Yolk_Eater on (September 28, 2012, 15:43 GMT)

For all those bashing hearout, i would like to say in his/her (seems like a his) defence, that not once did he predict that pakistan would not win this match, all he suggested that they might make it difficult for themselves chasing this easy target, and that's exactly what they did. Please read a statement properly first before writing out nonsensical statements.

all thanks to gul and umar akmal hope pak wins the match against india but im sad with afridis performance with the bat he bowled and fielded well but did not bat well but anyways pak won PAKISTAN ZINDABAD

Great win Pakistan. IMO Umar is MOM for not only stayed there to confirm win at end but also guided well Gul. To me Pakistan is under using his talent way low order. He always told him to cool at pressure cooker situation.Thats why no two bowlers got home from that situation in chasing. The pair should contain atleast one proper batsmen to guide panicing bowler for help to win. Finally that was one hell of a Guldoser innings...

Posted by   on (September 28, 2012, 15:37 GMT)

When Ajmal comes out to bat, one feels, that Pakistan will find it difficult. Ajmal bowls well, because he is cool, and perhaps thinks pleasantly, not good in the end of a T-20 game. I remember, when Umar Gul, seemed uncomfortable holding a bat, and I am aware that he is an all rounder, now.

Posted by shamlaatu on (September 28, 2012, 15:37 GMT)

"unlikely win"? Pretty demeaning choice of words for a victory that was snatched out of the jaws of defeat. Imagine the cricinfo headlines had India won such a game? lol, matter of fact, look at the hype created around India vs Australia game "Grand Final".

Posted by Atif9975 on (September 28, 2012, 15:35 GMT)

Mr. De Villiers forgot to use the spinners.. after the crack by Gul at Kallis... one over from a spinner may have changed the game back in South Africa's favor.. well this is what pressure does.. wrong decisions make you pay... Well Played UMER GUL..

Congrats to pk, but SA shud have won it.. Few things to rectify soon for pk.. Razzak or asad shafik shud replace shoab if he is not bowling.. Raza, hafeez, ajmal n afidi will bowl 16 ov, 4 can be bowled by razak n yasir, then y we even need gul?? replace both of them and team will look even better.. The results only showing that teams are going down in their standards, the team sliding more steaper, losing more matches than before like australia..

I'm so angry,I don't understand devilliers captaincy, the constant change of our batting line up which has just caused problems. Why did he bring himself in at 5 and then when your spinners are doing so well and winning the game for you why take them off, surely after Kalis was bashed spin should have come back and not albie morkel who once again bowls a over which costs us a game.Another World Cup gone to waste

Posted by on (September 28, 2012, 14:56 GMT)

WOW...... I really loved the gestures by Irfan Pathan and Dhoni during the blitz from U. Gul. Did anyone else notice it??? It was patetic.....

Posted by adillove on (September 28, 2012, 14:55 GMT)

Why are they counting it only on Umar Gul and Umar Akmal? I think it was 50% effort from Devilliers also that made Pakistan win today what if he gave the overs to Botha and Duminy instead of Albie Morkel and Kallis? Of course Pakistan weren't going to win it if that was this way!

Posted by dmqi on (September 28, 2012, 14:53 GMT)

Posted by exsupr on (September 28, 2012, 14:52 GMT)

Not a satisfying performance from Pakistan. Gul was pretty much a miracle. Pakistan won mostly because of bad captaincy by AB. Pak players were struggling against spin and still AB decided to go with the quicks. Gul also plays fast bowlers much better than spin when he's on a roll so that was another reason to not use the quicks. Overall, Pakistan really needs to improve their batting and mindset. They bring themselves under pressure for no reason. Umar Akmal looks like an average player.

Posted by gdamsaaregood on (September 28, 2012, 14:51 GMT)

Well Done Pakistan - you played really well SA will bounce back - Im pretty happy that they have lost before the knockout stages. Maybe this loss will kick them into gear to finally win a world cup The "CHOKERS TAG" may finally come to an end!! Good Luck to Pakistan in the rest of their matches...........I hope SA meet them again in the final as today's game was amazing!!!!

Posted by   on (September 28, 2012, 14:47 GMT)

IT is really sad to read the HEADLINES stating "Unlikely" win for your kind understanding Mr. Writer Pakistan were always the favorites after restricting worlds number team to 133 odd runs ! I am sure if this would have been India , headlines would have included words like "amazing" or "brilliant". I must say you have hurted many true Pakistani cricket fans like me. It is a humble request to change this headline.

Fantastic match first of all and congratulations Pakistan for a great win. Very pleased for you. Strange captaincy by AB. Robin P does 4 overs for 15 runs and Botha/Dumminy a combined 4 for 15 , so why were the latter not allocated their full quota of overs. It seems AB was going for reputation above what was actually happening on the day

Posted by   on (September 28, 2012, 14:36 GMT)

yesssssssssssssssss......2 Umars....made it possible ....and no doubt Umar Akmal showed his class..Congratulations.......Although top order Pak batsmen played some irresponsible shots and got panic s well..any ways..Umar Akmal & Umar Gul play some magic shots and won thriller. Good luck. Mueen ud din Hameed Toronto

Posted by mahjut on (September 28, 2012, 14:34 GMT)

Never a more likely to win are you ever likely to see (contrary to the rediculous headline)!!! PK are a favourite team (of 3/4), restricted SA to almost nothing in the first 20 and were never out of the chase ... kudos to SA for giving it a go but they never had enough runs on the board ... well bowled Rasa!! Possibly AB could've made it that little bit more interesting by keeping on the spinners a little longer but it only needed one or two guys to get a few runs...and PK have enough decent players to get something out of one or two of them in a chase that small!

Posted by murk on (September 28, 2012, 14:31 GMT)

great win.but tailenders dont win the games always.malik should be replaced with the one sitting on bench.pak teams is compared with WI or Zimbabwe which is not fair.SA bowling and batting is again exposed. congrats pakistan. seeing u with india in final

good test for pakistan middle and lower middle tight situation....and suggests and demands a lot of improvement from afridi, mailk and yasir arafat...well played umar akmal...a good exhibition of temperament and class.....a good knock from umar gul as well but cant rely on his batting everytime.....he needs to sort out his bowling...

Posted by PakCric786 on (September 28, 2012, 14:29 GMT)

Well done both teams and only 1 word comes to my mind when describing Afridi 'selfish' am i huge fan of Afridi and hes a great bowler but come on when your team needs a sensible knock from him he just thinks about his shots nothing else. I have been holding this for while now but I'll say it DROP AFRIDI from the team till he sorts his head out.

Probably the most stunning win from the verge of a shocking loss! It's quite usual to see Pakistan loose from a winning position but today we witnessed a very rare event of Pakistan winning from a loosing position. Last time Pakistan did that was due to Abdul Razzak's marvellous feat!

Posted by   on (September 28, 2012, 14:11 GMT)

Pakistan our running only on 1 engine, its either their bowling or batting, to get out of this group they'd need both to work now. SA made some mistakes giving the bowl to medium pacers when gul was there. he loves hitting through the line. Afridi is doing only just enough in his bowling to merit a place

I thought the Pakistan spinners would be the key factor, but S.A. s spinners proved equally effective and were winning the game for us,when A.B. had a brainstorm and took them off! The 2 Umars ,who are good, clean hitters were then served up an abundance of short-pitched medium-paced balls which they despatched to all corners of the ground-they must have thought Xmas had arrived early!Pity.

awesome performance shown by PAkistan,,,,,,,,firstly hey balled very weelumer gul you r awesome south africa must learn from their mistakes they have best spinners bu really poor captaincy from ab devilliers

Posted by RT25 on (September 28, 2012, 14:06 GMT)

AB De Villiers is guitly of some of the worst captaincy seen in a long time. South African spinners has absolutely dominated the game so to bring on Kallis and especially Albie Morkel was not only illogical, but purely insane. Johan Botha, one of the best T20 spinners around was left with 2 overs to spare. Duminy also had overs in hand and had bowled well. AB seemed to suffer from South African choker syndrome again. South Africa despite their immense talent has no chance of winning this tournament with a captain who is capable of such inexplicable decision-making. Some will argue AB is a young captain and is still learning, but I would be interested to know how many South Africans hearts sunk the moment they saw Albie being tossed the ball? Goodluck to the Pakistani's who rode the luck of AB's awful decision-making well!

And about our batting..It was pathetic but we won in the end..That matters. We won so i wont say anything bad. Best of Luck India for the next match. this pitch surely is so deadly..i cant wait to see how Aussies tackle the Indian spinners

Pakistan pulled an amazing victory after being 76 for 7 ,miserable performamce by the top order batsmen. Then Umar Gul made history with a fury of shots, 3x6 , and Umar Akmal on the other end played responsibly. Afridi is racing as usual to the bottom of his career, he holds the record for scoring more ducks than any other batsmen. He and Shoaib Maliok must exit respectfully and make room for younger players . A major victory for Pakistan and the biggest upset in this series so far.

Congrats to Pakisthan from an Indian Fan. Really Pak can bring excitement to cricket matches like no other team . And real tactical mistake on the part of south Africa not let Botha finish his overs .......

Posted by   on (September 28, 2012, 13:57 GMT)

Posted by graemecodrington on (September 28, 2012, 13:57 GMT)

That was the worst captaincy I have ever seen in a match. Throughout the whole match, the spinners were dominating. Johan Botha and JP Duminy have the best 2 over figures of the SA bowlers, but that's what each of them got - only two overs each. Frankly unbelievable. You don't want to even think it, but that captaincy can almost not be explained in any fair sporting framework. How could AB have got it THAT badly wrong just by mistake? As a South African supporter I am more than disappointed, I am gobsmacked! I almost feel as if AB should apologise to us as fans. It really was that bad.

Posted by   on (September 28, 2012, 13:57 GMT)

wat a match,......!! Conradulations to all Pakistanis,....!!

Posted by   on (September 28, 2012, 13:56 GMT)

Umer Gul Man of the Match for his batting............. did any one imagine that before the start of the match???

A good show of character by him..........................but what AB was thinking and doing................... no clue whatsoever

wel done two umer's.....................not forget the akmal for his cool and calm hand

thanx indians and srilankans for aprreciating our pakistan...gud luck to both of u:P

Posted by binojpeter on (September 28, 2012, 13:53 GMT)

Congratulations to Pakistan from an Indian fan. You bowled extremely well to restrict SA. But I was surprised at Devillier's captaincy. It was obvious that spinners were able to do more in that track than seamers. Why did he not allow Botha and Duminy to bowl more (not the last overs but in the middle) rather than his seamers?

all indians who were bashing should be quite now after saw Pak home at the end ....Congrats hats off to Umar gul and Umar Akmal ,,,,they should replace shoaib malik with asad shafiq & yasir arafat with razaq of the luck for the rest

Posted by   on (September 28, 2012, 13:50 GMT)

Umar Gull has always had a lot of strength and ability to hit 6s. Pak and nothign to lose, it was do or die. These situations can turn into a lottery, so Pakistan come out on top this time round. Kallis still had 2 overs to ball. A mistake from AB Devilliers. He should have gone with him

Posted by   on (September 28, 2012, 13:48 GMT)

Umer Gul Man of the Match for his batting............. did any one imagine that before the start of the match???

Posted by Newlandsfaithful on (September 28, 2012, 13:48 GMT)

AB lost the game for SA all by himself. Where on earth will you get a better spinner track than this??? - unplayable - and he doggedly persists on relying on the quicks. Its unfortunately a SA kind of mindset not to believe in spinners. SA will never, never, never learn...

Posted by   on (September 28, 2012, 13:47 GMT)

INDIA ARE YOU WATCHING??? :D Umar has forgotten how to bowl but he has learned how to bludgeon bowling attacks ... for afridi its vice versa

Posted by EngineeredCricketer on (September 28, 2012, 13:47 GMT)

Congrats Pakistan and Good Luck South Africa. Thanks to Sri Lankan fans for Pakistan team. We do pray too if Pakistan not lift the cup, SL should lift it.

Posted by   on (September 28, 2012, 13:46 GMT)

Well played Gul, Umar and Pakistan bowlers. Poor batting display by Pakistan top order. Pakistan is one team in the world which can score 180+ runs on its day and at the same time mess up a small score. Very poor captaincy by AB, who gave away the match because of his poor bowling changes.

Posted by OptimusPrimal on (September 28, 2012, 13:46 GMT)

It is VERY SAD to see this demeaning headline as if Pakistan was not good enough to have won against SA. Nothing against SA, they are one of my favorite teams, but I bet you if this was an Indian win the headlines would've been rife with words like "brilliant" and "awe inspiring".

Pakistan bowled excellently and restricted one of the best batting sides to a below par score. In end their batsmen (and a bowler) won the game for them... Nuf said!

Posted by X.2. on (September 28, 2012, 13:45 GMT)

They are a ridiculous side. Often maddening. Always entertaining. Increasingly impressive.

Posted by JonRiz on (September 28, 2012, 13:45 GMT)

SA leveled by Guldozer!!!

WHAT A MATCH!!!! All of a sudden the tournament has got a lot more interesting than ever before. 2 days, 3 thrillers! wow!! Can't wait for the rest.

Posted by GTA_CricFan on (September 28, 2012, 13:43 GMT)

Congrats to Umar Gul and shame on Pakistani batting! Pakistani batsmen ensured they leave no opportunity to lose this game.

Hafeez's comments during the ceremony were ridiculous! Boys played a couple of bad shots??? Boys played horribly and just threw their wickets away. Either there's a language barrier due to which Hafeez almost always have scripted comments (along the lines of boys did well) or someone needs to shake him and tell him Pakistani batting failed today.

Posted by deardr on (September 28, 2012, 13:42 GMT)

WOW!!!! What a Great match, thanks to Omar Gul and Omar Akmal for staying till the end,it was an unlikely win but Omar Gul changed the complexion of the game.Congrats everyone! Pakistan's Bowling was good today restricting South Africa to 133,but Pakistan top order batting collapsed and it was an impossible win when Pakistan were 7 down and score was in eighties but what a great come back by Omar Gul and Omar Ukmal, they played a gem of innings and made sure Pakistan win.Hats off to the man of the match Omar Gul

Posted by   on (September 28, 2012, 13:40 GMT)

Sour grapes Marcio, blame your own squad who couldn't take on a scrub in gul. South Africans are perrenial chokers

Posted by kc69 on (September 28, 2012, 13:40 GMT)

Wow,now thats what i call a match.Well played Pakistan on behalf of India.

Posted by crashed on (September 28, 2012, 13:38 GMT)

Congratulations Pakistan. But I think this is a tough group anything can happen from here on further. No shame to loose this match though if South Africa is due to have a bad day in the office ... rather let it be today than in semis or even finals, if they go that far :)

Posted by   on (September 28, 2012, 13:37 GMT)

AB please tell us why you sent behardien before you???? This was the worst decision i've seen in recent years.

Posted by SnowSnake on (September 28, 2012, 13:37 GMT)

SA, England and India lack killer instinct. Aus, SL & Pak has got it to win games. Other teams are somewhere in between.

Posted by   on (September 28, 2012, 13:37 GMT)

What exqusite Relief!

My all-night vigil was about to end in misery and then Gul hits a six...

Speaking of misery, can the selectors PLEASE put Afridi out of his?

Posted by Cric_info_pak on (September 28, 2012, 13:35 GMT)

every one pakistan chase 170 or made 170 plus and win ,every one say pakistan bowling was bad , if pakistan bowling do well and win ppl here say pakistan batting is bad in last pakistan got the best T20 world cup record and they win most of the time and that only matters , pakistan is best team in T20 cricket ( future cricket) got fast bowlers , spinners , got all rounders, and may be average batsman but suitable for T20 that's y pakistan record is best in T20 world cups,

Posted by   on (September 28, 2012, 13:33 GMT)

Well done Pakistan!! Gul is a fantastic cricketer - awesome to see him shine with the bat.

Posted by umar2700 on (September 28, 2012, 13:33 GMT)

@streetblader: that club team defeated India, Australia, New Zealand and now South Africa, so this means that these teams doesn't deserve to be in WT20.

Posted by Ameega on (September 28, 2012, 13:32 GMT)

I am a Sri Lankan, and feel this win as WE won. I am really happy of the way Pakistanis, specially two Umars hold their nerves. If SL cannot make it, best of luck dear Pakistanis to lift the trophy!!! (Hope spoilers do not come to this forum today to compare their WORLD BEATERS with this mighty Pakistanis.)

Posted by   on (September 28, 2012, 13:25 GMT)

Well done Pakistan - deserved win. I feel gutted. SA did well to stay in the match but AB's bowling changes were nonsensical. The run rate of Duminy and Botha who had both taken a wicket clearly indicated they were up for the challenge - why on earth bring on Kallis and Albie?

Posted by   on (September 28, 2012, 13:25 GMT)

Take that criticizers , Pakistan Win. Now don't come up with lame excuses. We play like a team and win this thing . Pakistan Zindabad !!

Posted by Perera32 on (September 28, 2012, 13:24 GMT)

To all our Pakistani Friends: Well done that was a brilliant Victory. Gul and Umar Akmal showed brilliant mentality (not Afridi). It was a really exciting match and the better team won the match. Once again South Africa shows why they are Chokers, South Africa have never won a ICC tournament. South Africa's faster bowlers are uneffective in spin frindley conditions. AB's captaincy was pathetic too, why didn't he bowl Botha's full 4 overs.

Posted by   on (September 28, 2012, 13:23 GMT)

@Hartout So what u say now Mr. Pandit.

Posted by HEARTOUT on (September 28, 2012, 13:23 GMT)

Gul.............didnt accept Kamran offer and played for the different from the original match results all the world betters now scratching their heads who put all the money on SA and Gul ruined the party...........well done Gul...........not Pak team............

Posted by Marcio on (September 28, 2012, 13:23 GMT)

It's a sad indictment of the t20 game (and the pitches served up in SL) when a bunny who averages 10 or less in all formats of the game - and who had scored a little more than 100 runs in almost 50 games - can just swing away and take a game away from the best fastbowlers on the planet, showing little or not skill or ability. I say bring on the longer formats. I just can't take this hit and giggle stuff seriously, not even in a WC.

Posted by Hommi on (September 28, 2012, 13:22 GMT)

oh man now i know why they are unpredictable :D hardluck to SAF they did really well.. it was Guls day

Posted by   on (September 28, 2012, 13:21 GMT)

Horrible Captaining from SA. Spinners were doing great. Botha only got 2 overs then Albie Morkel hit for 20 in one over.

Posted by SurlyCynic on (September 28, 2012, 13:19 GMT)

Well played Pakistan, although made the chase tougher than it should have been! SA lost the game when they played like England for the first 8 overs. Why they kept De Villiers back to #6 is baffling.

Posted by   on (September 28, 2012, 12:58 GMT)

pakistan is still in need of misbah ul haq in the middle order

Posted by HEARTOUT on (September 28, 2012, 12:48 GMT)

Wel wel wel.................See my previous comments.........I could become cricket pundit................and also a good better...............lollllllllllz............for sure about pakistan...................

Posted by   on (September 28, 2012, 12:48 GMT)

@Solid_snake::: now this was not expected from your batting lineup???

Posted by soofy on (September 28, 2012, 12:47 GMT)

@fuddu_snake maybe pakistan's bowling attack is best but pakistan's batting line is worst in this tournament.

Posted by Kystral9090 on (September 28, 2012, 12:45 GMT)

133 should have been a piece of cake for Pakistan. Pakistan need to just go and play until the end and I'm sure they will win. I don't know why they sent Afridi at number 6. He should have come in at number 10.

Posted by streetblader on (September 28, 2012, 12:43 GMT)

@Solid_Snake : Yeah dude, we can see how HOT this team is... lol, ha ha ha ha ha

Posted by streetblader on (September 28, 2012, 12:43 GMT)

@Solid_Snake: Didn't some one tell you not to count your chickens before they hatched buddy? Or has pakistan sent a club team out there for this tournament? look at the bunch of them and their hapless cricket...

Posted by brittop on (September 28, 2012, 12:40 GMT)

So not only England who can't play spin, then

Posted by   on (September 28, 2012, 12:38 GMT)

Go home Afridi... your time's over... you really are out of your senses man..

Posted by   on (September 28, 2012, 12:32 GMT)

Why did Shoaib Malik have to play this stupid shot???????????

Posted by saintsinister on (September 28, 2012, 12:03 GMT)

there we go again.. famous batting collapses .. they just made the match interesting :D

Posted by R_U_4_REAL_NICK on (September 28, 2012, 11:55 GMT)

Well, only 3 overs of the chase gone, and the faster you try to bowl the faster it comes off the bat. Are Australia watching? Their obsession with pace alone is baffling. Spinners will dominate this format forever IMO, unless you're a Malinga!

Posted by HEARTOUT on (September 28, 2012, 11:46 GMT)

Wel...........if it is slow track then be ready for something unusual from Pakistan too....this mockery total will look bigger then wanderers on that......................and kamran and company can also and will try to make some $ out of this contest.........who knowsssssssssssssssssssss...........

Posted by davidatlas999 on (September 28, 2012, 11:40 GMT)

Plz plz pak bating do your job now.jus need 134 it 6.65 avg.

Posted by saintsinister on (September 28, 2012, 11:37 GMT)

Go Pakistannn...... A little better fielding and w.keeping and we wudv had to chase 100.. 134 really isnt hard to get as well.. Go Greeen..

Posted by khurramsch on (September 28, 2012, 11:35 GMT)

good bowling by pak now we will have to see how they bat. so far good in event but real test vs Styen, morkel

Posted by Ramansilva on (September 28, 2012, 11:32 GMT)

Well done Paks. Keep it up. Now the Indies must be shivering. They have to face Aussie tonight and the formidable Pak attack sooner. It will be a miracle if Indies can beat at least one out of Pak, SA and Aussies. .

Posted by Bluegems on (September 28, 2012, 11:32 GMT)

CHOKEATHON has begun... These South Africans they always begin with BOOM and end with a fuzz... But I love them..they add irony.. we need teams like them..

Posted by   on (September 28, 2012, 11:31 GMT)

nice job by the bowlers as usual, now the batters shouldn't make a mockery out of the chase...

Posted by R_U_4_REAL_NICK on (September 28, 2012, 11:26 GMT)

Robin Peterson sent out to bat ahead of Botha... hmmm, not sure about that one.

Posted by   on (September 28, 2012, 11:25 GMT)

Pak seems to be a powerful side.

Posted by R_U_4_REAL_NICK on (September 28, 2012, 11:17 GMT)

Pakistan could be the dark horses of this competition. Their bowling is looking one of the most balanced I've seen in the competition. Gul was not even needed until the 18th over because the spinners bowled so well. Really good effort from Pakistan, and looking forward to the chase.

Posted by   on (September 28, 2012, 11:03 GMT)

A good strangle hold from Pak spinners. Hafeez should use his 5th bowler - Shoab malik. A good spin hold of SA

Posted by Rajesh_india_1990 on (September 28, 2012, 11:01 GMT)

Who is this BEHARDIEN?i am sick of his batting...not a good player to feature in the talented south african line up..

Posted by Resultpredictor on (September 28, 2012, 11:00 GMT)

Pak will lose this match because SA bowling is the best in the world and they can defend any target on any given surface.

Posted by Vikum72 on (September 28, 2012, 10:46 GMT)

SA doesn't look like the tournament's top favorites at the moment! 3 wickets down with only a half a century on the board!

Posted by Solid_Snake on (September 28, 2012, 10:39 GMT)

Levi was thinking that he could do a reverse sweep easily on Ajmal's bowling. He thought that he could hit Ajmal just like Warner did to Ajmal in our last series. But i think what Levi forgot was that he is facing the currently No#1 bowler of T20 and ODI.How Levi got out,i bet he saw that footage several times while in his dressing room.No idea what just happened to him lol

Posted by Saad.Navaid on (September 28, 2012, 10:35 GMT)

SA 36/3 in 8.3ovrs... now who predicted that... :D :D :D

Posted by Solid_Snake on (September 28, 2012, 10:35 GMT)

Now where are all of our Indian brothers who were commenting about our bowling attack?SA team with the likes of Amla,Levi and Kallis..managing only 28/3 in the power play.Is it possible?Yeah it is possible and we are the one damaging the hot fav SA team like that.Levi the hard hitter,Amla the classy player almost stumbled facing the bowling of 19 year old young boy, barely got away from stumping in Hassans over. PS->Now i dont know about the match result. But i hope everyone got how dangerous our bowling is.Go greens, now win this match. God bless you

So far so good for Pakistan...

Posted by saintsinister on (September 28, 2012, 10:04 GMT)

LOL .. there we go.. Akmal at his best.. missed stumping of AMLA.. this guy has to make 200 this match to overcome this blunder :D
