India-Pakistan matches - never mind the tournament context - often tend to be a contest as much of nerves as of cricketing skills. Keeping in with recent times, where India have tended to come out the mentally stronger side, Pakistan's batsmen tried too hard and imploded to waste a dream start and post the lowest total of the Super Eights stage of this World Twenty20. Virat Kohli, who had scored 183 in his previous match against Pakistan, then steered the chase of 129 with his eighth fifty-plus score in his last 11 international innings.

This was a game where one of two jinxes would be broken. It was India, needing to win this to stay alive, who posted their first Super Eights win in World Twenty20s since 2007. Pakistan were still without a win over India in any World Cup match. Pakistan were every bit a team with a bogey attached to them. They tried flamboyance with the bat and failed, and didn't show heart to back up their talented bowling and attack. India, on the other hand, did the small things well after a nervous start, and were there to accept every opportunity that Pakistan presented.

Anxious more than enthusiastic, Pakistan began with 26 runs and five boundaries in the first two overs, but regressed in the coming overs. Some of their batsmen just froze, including captain Mohammad Hafeez who scored 15 off 28, and they took 6.5 overs to score the next 26. Pakistan played 53 dot balls against bowling that was steady at best. Add to that two balls they didn't even make India bowl.

It might look like a canter looking at the scorecard, but the match had got off to an edgy start. India even looked a little meek and Pakistan tried to intimidate them. Zaheer Khan brought back memories of his first over in the 2003 World Cup final, bowling three wides in his first over here. One of them, nearly a regulation take for the keeper, found its way to the boundary. The first ball Imran Nazeer faced he smoked away to the cover-point boundary. The first ball he faced from the other end, he inside-edged Irfan Pathan for four, but the bowler came back with a trademark lbw in the same over.

In the second over, out came the six-or-nothing Shahid Afridi. It was a pair of Pathans opening for India against one of the more celebrated Pathan cricketers, who was full of intent. The first ball: whacked away to long-on, the fourth: thrashed through covers. Even against Zaheer, Afridi kept swinging at everything. MS Dhoni went to the surprise pick, L Balaji, in the fifth over. Balaji began with a slower bouncer that Afridi didn't pick, and then got him caught in the deep with the regulation bouncer in the same over.

If this was a pressure match, it showed the most on Pakistan captain Hafeez, playing his 100th consecutive international for Pakistan. He would have had a perfect day had he gone to a shooting range. Almost every shot he played went straight to a fielder. As the dot balls piled on, it seemed the perfect time to introduce Yuvraj Singh, whose fitness has recently been questioned.

Yuvraj had set the tone for the day early when he dived full length to save four runs off the first legitimate delivery of the match. Now he teased the Pakistan batsmen with his slow tossed-up non-turners. With pressure mounting thanks to Hafeez, Nasir Jamshed was the first to fall, trying to slog-sweep Yuvraj. Dhoni showed he had recovered from his earlier slip as he caught the underside edge cleanly. Kamran Akmal, too, edged Yuvraj in his next over, Dhoni again pouching the sharp chance. Yuvraj would fill in with a direct-hit run-out from point later.

Shoaib Malik continued his love of playing India, and added 47 with Umar Akmal, but that was the last bit of fight Pakistan put up. When the time came to step up, R Ashwin's three remaining overs came in handy, and he got them both caught at deep midwicket. The pressure of the dot balls earlier was too much.

All India's pre-match moves were working. The part-timers went for a combined 3 for 37 in their six overs, which justified playing only four bowlers. Balaji returned figures of 3 for 22. For a moment in the chase, though, it seemed it wasn't going to be all easy. Pakistan's new spinner Raza Hasan removed Gautam Gambhir for a duck, but they ran into a Kohli-sized brick wall.

Making his comeback, Virender Sehwag played a useful hand too, adding 74 for the second wicket, but it was his partner at the wicket who was the star of the show. It helped that it was Pakistan who were meek now. Attacking men were conspicuous in their absence, and when Kohli edged Afridi through the vacant slip in the ninth over, with the run rate still about a run a ball, the match had completely slipped out of Pakistan's hands.

Kohli remained calm even after Sehwag's fall, summing up India's calmness on the big night.

Now, what u guys will say about Pak performance today??? Being a Pakistani i am proud of my team who just thrashed Aussies and u can see Fear in their eyes...The fair of Shameless defeat against PAK...M.Hussey is the key player who just take his time to get settled and ensure that Aus will make 112 in order to qualify for the Semi Finals...Hats off to PAK...Now what my fellow Indians will say about our bowling attack??? Now u can compare it with your team's bowling attack...

@ jasonpete on (October 01 2012, 05:26 AM GMT); & mathewjohn2176 on (October 01 2012, 05:52 AM GMT) we know how to appreciate but do not BOAST!!!.. u ppl boast when u win and insult ur opponents.. now dont try to be a saint or pretend it, when it coms to u r turn. it may have hurt u undertandably. But that is the trueth.. u know great AUS capt, Allan Border told way back 20 yrs ago that u need 25% luck and 75% talent to win a cricket match ... if it not luck, what then Vrat is playing on?? how many drop it true or false?? go and see those matches again, but that does not mean Vrat bad player, he is really good talent, but on top of that he is running on luck. Otherwise see what happnd to the Rohit Sharma.. is he not good player??, but whats happning to him...all going wrong... lot indian write him off .. so whers is the appreciation for Rohit's talent.. before u point out other do ur part right mate first.

India will win, it just has to use some brains if they r playing against the Aussies.. Australia is so far the best... So, best of luck 2 the Men in Blue!! Jai ho! Will be in total support of the Indians!! Also, keep going, Virat!

@VivtheGreatest..... i agree with you partially.... the only world class bowler is ajmal, gul to a certain extent.... but pakistan has a good variation of spinners which i dont think we have... afridi/hafeez are more than useful(compared to say yuvraj/sehwag etc).... but yeah, they def dont hve the pace resources that they used to... its just ok, ppl go overboard saying they hve a great bowling attack... goes to show perceptions are hard to remove...

Posted by VivtheGreatest on (October 2, 2012, 4:25 GMT)

I dont know who has propogated the myth that Pakistan have a good bowling attack. Do they think they still have Wasim and Waqar?!! LOL! The only good bowler in their side is Ajmal, the rest are all mediocre. The likes of Arafat wouldnt get into most other teams. Then they go around calling the Indian bowling ordinary. The fact is the bowling standard of both teams is the same and our batting is far, far superior. This myth of the 'great ' Pakistani bowling seems to be believed by some Indians also without thinking clearly

Here is the scenario for India to Qualify: 1) Aus win vs Pak: India can qualify by winning against SA or by loosing to SA by not more than 3 runs or with 1-2 balls to spare. This will keep them above SA in NRR and also above Pak assuming Pak didn't loose by less than 2 runs 2) Pak win vs Aus: India has to win against SA and have a better win compared to Pakistan's win by 1 ball or 2 runs.

For Pak to qualify, Pak has to win and hope India don't have a better win. They have almost no chance if they loose. Either Ind or SA will overtake them on NRR very easily.

If both India & Pakistan win their matches, it is unlikely that Aus will loose out on NRR (Pak has to beat them by 40 runs to do that). So it will be between Ind and Pak on NRR (Scenario#2 outlined above).

@TSJ07, I beg to differ on Harbhajjan. The spell against England is distorting. He is not the bowler he used to be. I do hope and wish him the best. Think Yuvraj, Raina or Sehwag would be better option with the ball. Hope Bhajji proves me wrong. The Englishmen threw their wickets rather than Bhajji earning it. When you compare a performance you would want to see it over at least a 6 to 10 games before proclaiming how good or bad a player is. I like the aggression of Hassan and Dhannanjay better. It is to early to say how Dhannanjay will pan out but he seems a very good prospect.

@Mazii aaw, I feel so bad for you. Despite the loss I really appreciate the comments from the Pakistani's. I sincerely hope they qualify for the semi finals. I want the Asian teams to reign. The Pakistani's are the most candid and fair commentators on cricinfo at the same time passionate. I like Jayawardene and think he is a cool Captai and also the Sri Lankan team. I think they have a very balanced team but I do not understand the negative vibes between the Sri Lankan and Indian fans. I want one of the Asians to lift the cup, preferably India. I would not mind if Pakistan or Sri Lanka lifts it as long as it is an Asian. Sri Lanka are doing really well, so congratulations to their team and Pakistan is a great side, much better than India skill wise but they need to believe in themselves. At the end of the day may the best side win. I love the WI side for the flavor they have in their batting. Please, please do not let the Aussie's brag about this world cup. Good luck to all.

Congratz Team-india for such a fine performance.. ,this was all expected ,,1ce again PAk were unable to break that jinx against Ind in Worldcups...but the fact remains there that Pak r a very capable side and renowned for bouncing back very quickly was just that the indians had psychological edge over Pak in WC that led them to the 1 sided victory...but 1 has to admit that indian bowling is certainly not threatening and against a good batting line-up those bowlers r gonna falter again(as they did badly against aussies) ...majority of pak fans have bashed Hafeez and co very hard..but m sure those same ppl r gonna cheer their victory keep patience guys ,u have got a lot of match -winners,,,

India plays their best cricket when it matters.

Posted by TSJ07 on (October 1, 2012, 17:34 GMT)

It was pressure which got to Pak team made worse by their batting.I guess they need Misbah to bring some calm to their not so good batting. Also Pak should also consider dropping spinners like Afridi,Hafeez etc against India as we all know India play 'em really well.Just check their bowling record against India.Razak is better option against India though Pak should play more spinners against non-subcontinental teams like India dont play many spinners against Pak and SL. Harbhajan will play against SA for sure and will do well.I'm Indian fan and I wish India Pak and SL good luck for the next matches.BTW Ausssie openers cant go on like this forever and will have an off day and that will be their last day in SL.I'm not even talking abt England as they have no chance w/o KP.What a hopeless team Eng team is without him.I hope Eng fans and selectors have learnt it by now but its too late now.they are catching their flight back home.

Hopefully we'll meet India in the Semi Final and it's lot more fun Sri Lanka beating India in the semi final than Pakistan!!! :D

Posted by The-love on (October 1, 2012, 16:09 GMT)

@ashwinsakthi:- I was also thinking similarly but cricket already has less teams with some standard. If india and pakistan play together.Cricket will lose one more good team.

Posted by   on (October 1, 2012, 16:00 GMT)

After yesterday's match my belief has strengthened that the entire Pakistan team gets a collective brain freeze when playing India in a WC match... similar to what the Indian team faced when playing Pakistan in Sharjah in the 1980s and 90s. When Hafeez won the toss and elected to bat, I thought he started the match with a blunder. The only thing I hate to love about Pakistan is their cricket team and the way they have rebuilt after all the turmoil in the last few years is commendable. Hopefully Pakistan will beat Australia and India will beat SA by big margins and we will get a dream final... If wishes were horses...

Hey!!!!!! It Seems We Indians Just dont our team to win !!!! Whenever we win .. Its because of Luck or other Teams bad /Pathetic show ... Awrt no Problem ...then whenever we Loose why pic one of our Players Say Dhoni , Rohit , Sehwag ,Yuvraj,Ashwin,Bhajji or for that matter anyone in Particular .... As being responsible ???? Just say That its Luck that Opposition Won!!!!! because of their Good Fortunes ... After all Cricket is a game which does have got Lots of Luck Factor in it .... Why is it That only Luck is the factor When India Wins???? Ponder over it And me thinks its the Colonial Past or The Genetic Set Up of Us Indians Which Takes things from others !!!!!

Posted by cooldxve on (October 1, 2012, 15:22 GMT)

Pakistani supportes please try to be patient. Pakistan still has a very good chance to qualify for the semis. This is only the first match so far that they have lost. What's the problem if they loose to India. India are also a good team. Defeating India is not necessary. Winning the Cup is necessary, and they are not out of the race. Remember the recent Asia Cup. Pakistan lost to India but they won the Cup, which was more important.

Posted by PakFan1209 on (October 1, 2012, 15:18 GMT)

I think Hafeez put the pressure on all the batsmen he should have atleast taken some singles it looked like hafeez is playing a test match instead of t20 and i think we should have reached 140 - 150 and i think we could have done that if shoaib malik and umar akmal would have carried on but we have to say well played Indian team

Posted by missionbegins2011 on (October 1, 2012, 15:18 GMT)

Really enjoyed the match....nice to see IND continuing their legacy of defeating PAK

Posted by keptalittlelow on (October 1, 2012, 15:11 GMT)

Sidharth is spot on, Mohammad Hafeez the Pakistan captain's clueless stay sucked all life out of Pkistan batting. It was his strange batting which caused the downfall of 3 good batsmen who tried to force the pace. When India batted Sarouve Ganguly summed up Hafeez captaincy when commented "has he ever won a match after scoring 128 runs and not attacking". In any case what a wonderful talent Virat Kohli is.

Posted by RajatSrivastav on (October 1, 2012, 15:07 GMT)

India didn't do anything so special that could make them win in such an easy manner in a high intensity game. Pakistani batsmen were specially on the spree of silly shot making decisons. But yes, the better team won. Congrats for saving the much coveted record. Best of Luck!!!

First of all congratulations to India for wining there match against Pakistan.. and i also wish best of luck to pakistan for there upcoming match against Aus... Hope they will trash Aus by big margin... However in yesterdays match India was bit lucky on various fronts ... The kind of line they bowl to pakistan batsman was similar to that of Aus VS India match, but some pakistan never had a batsman like Watson, otherwise Yuraj would have been hit of atleast 3 sixes in his spell and Balaji too... It looked like pakistan got bogged down, otherwise they have a far better team then India in T20's....

Posted by avmd on (October 1, 2012, 13:30 GMT)

Pakistani women did it , what men could not. Yes they beat Indian women today in the ongoing T20 WC. Pakistanis should start supporting their women team when it comes to match against India, men have no chance, they have a mental block against India, women don't.

@ashwinsakthi: You said what i was dreaming Bro...but i was not sure how fans across both countries (Ind and Pak) would react to such comments so i did not publish...It would have been great if both our countries are united...Pak team has tremendous talent they just need to believe in themselves.....I wish Pak all the luck for their match against Aus..

Posted by   on (October 1, 2012, 12:55 GMT)

If there is such a term as "Beyond Pathetic", then it applies to Pakistani team. There was simply no excuse. There was nothing on the pitch for the bowlers and India did not have any quality bowler. The pitch was supposed to spin in the second inning and Pakistan had 5 world class spinners. Even luck favored them as Hafeez won the toss. What happened had nothing to do with luck. Pakistani performance was simply beyond pathetic. I do not think it now matters if Pakistan wins the cup or not. They have lost to one team that mattered.

well played india....i've always been impressed by kohli's performances and i think that he is no doubt one of the best batsmen out there today...apart from that the Indians were not bowling great but they were helped by some very very poor cricket by the Pakistani batsmen....i am amazed at the management of the Pakistan team for they are yet to understand this game completely... at least it seems this way...i was hoping for a Pakistan win but didn't even get a good fighting match from against Australia the chances of success are very slim....but again congrats to India for winning a vital encounter.

Posted by ibbani on (October 1, 2012, 12:29 GMT)

@ nix_moviefreak - You are half right, most of the PAK/SL fans in any ohter page does not want IND to win any matches, They think their teams are supremo, and unchallenged. They always underrate Indian bowling, sentiments, except for the Eng/Aus tour, India has not done anything bad and time and agian they are whipping Pak/SL team black and blue. That is not tolerated by them, Hence they pass ill comments about Indian bowling, batting, fielding , captaincy, and what not. if they are giving, they shud take it back too. if they pass good one's, we are the 1st one to pass a 100 times better comment on this very page.

Posted by IndianROCKstars_2011_ODIchamps on (October 1, 2012, 12:27 GMT)

Going through some comments by SL fans before the match and then their total no disappearance from forum after Indias victory over Pakistan, it seems more than Pakistani fans its the SL fans who seem more dissapointed and unhappy. Now this may be mistaken as brotherly love for Pakistan but thats not so.SL fans, suffering from inferiority complex after India thrashed them in 90% of ODI bilateral series and beat them badly in ODI WC 2011 final find it hard to digest the fact that despite poor bowling resources of India their team just cant win against India. It was obvious to the trained eye that during the warmup game Indian bowlers were not really trying hard , perhaps on purpose, not risking getting injured. However if one looks at the PP forums , there were so many PPers mocking the bowling attack under various headings. Most of these will never understand a trap was set and polished well in warmup game by feeding false overconfidence to pakistani batters on how easy it is to bat

Posted by   on (October 1, 2012, 12:06 GMT)

Pakistan is still not learning from the mistakes, bowling attackof india is not that great. Batsman should have more patenice

More over I feel that ICC should bring review system in all formats. This tournament is not going gr8 for the umpires

Posted by Vasunigam on (October 1, 2012, 11:59 GMT)

Well-both groups are still widely open. There is one thing which I can not understand that why ICC had made S8 fixtures like that-i mean all the top teams like Ind,Pak,SA & Oz in one group & rest in other. That means we are losing any 2 of them even b4 semis. Condition in both groups is same eventually as SL & Aus win 2 games while others are still in hunt. It is quite tricky condition as Oz cud not relax bcos they r still not qualified for Semis - If India & Pak both win there matches then It will depend on NRR & poor South Africans -even being such a good unit they lost both o f there match. Lets HOPE for IND VS PAK FINAL again.

@SoulTaker; Thank you very much for your encouraging friendly comments bro. We know that most of the Indian & Pakistan fans are with us. Congratulations to INDIA for putting up a very good show. Now, I have some questions for PAK team , Why Yasir Arfat is playing when you have Razzaq. Why Hafeez is opening the innings when he is struggling to get the singles even? Is there any body in the management who can tell Shahid Afridi that instead of 40 in 20 balls , we just need 30 from 20 balls. Is there any body who can tell the spinners how to bowl on wickets like the this (Come on, bowl it slow and ask the batsman to work it around with force). where was the attacking intentions? A slip should have been there all the time. And finally, How Pakistan batsman will understand that there are many other shots in cricket other than 6 and a dab.

After seeing so much commaraderie between the indian and pakistani bros...i just gave a thought like how it would have been had india and pakistan been together..and played together with india's batting and pakistan's bowling...the world would have been struggling to win a single match against us....

Posted by shazzar on (October 1, 2012, 11:08 GMT)

Well done India. Hafeez lost it for pakistan, struggled to even make 1's against average bowling, crumpled under his own pressure. Would have been better bowling first, but that was never going to happen. Good luck to both team for the final super eight matches

The fact remains the fact that Ind thrashed us. But i m really impressed to see some really good comments from Indian people. Good to see they understand cricket and not mixing emotions between cricket and politics. As i said earlier too, many many congratulations to all indians from pakistani people. Like some indians, i also want pak and ind both to qualify for semi's but i know it wud be quite difficult. Let's hope pak beat aus tomorrow and then ind beat SA and let cricket win, may the best team qualifies for semi's. And i wud also request to SL people that please dont give bad comments abt indian team. They played very well and one of the fav to win the cup so plz stop giving bad comments and support the cricket and good performance. Also good luck to SL people. I m sure they will qualify for semi's today.

People who are saying that Kholi is a upcoming star, i think they are wrong ..i believe he is a Present and long long Future of India ...Finally India has found a treasure....i still hate him for making score against Pakistan ..hahahahaha...Joke apart Pakistan really need to give their 200% percent against Aus as if they fail to defeat them atleast i don't want them to give away match in a silver Platter Best of Luck both of team for their Future!

Posted by Bogelking on (October 1, 2012, 10:30 GMT)

I am more concerned rather ecstatic seeing the flashes of brilliance and lethargy by the Indians. But whatever it is, the team have succeeded in extending its winning streak against Pakistan in the world cup irrespective of the formats. It was a nice match to watch upon. Now the calculation games will emerge as probably the net run rate will be an important factor to decide who all will progress from this group. Australia in its present form need not have to worry to overcome Pakistan, but they will only be complacent at their own peril. For they will once again have to face the ominous doosras that Ajmal would sent to topple the batting order. Watson vs Ajmal would be the contest to watch out for. As far as the other game is concerned between India and SA, it would be the test between the pace attack vs batting . How well would the SA adjust to the conditions will be really watched on, for it is a must win game for them to be in contention. India also will be having pressure.

India's batting or the monumental Kohli is the glue that keeps holding them together. The part-time bowlers with their low slow deliveries and half trackers were treated like malinga-esk yorkers! India on a high may just edge out South Africa, although South Africa are looking to restore some pride, so it will be an intriging contest. Pakistan with this mental baggage go against Australia, but are probably in their minds already on their flight home! What they need is true inspiration like Imran Khans 'Cornered Tiger' speech that stirred a sleeping giant to glory. A month ago Pakistan played Australia in a 3 match series which really ended an even contest. But that was a month ago, and for the most unpredicatable team on the planet it may as well have been light years ago. Forest Gump put it coherently, Pakistan '... is a like a box of chocolates, you never know what you are going to get next!'

Posted by Khans_word on (October 1, 2012, 10:25 GMT)

In this encounter a lot of fans have righty expressed their frustration and anger on a one-sided drivel of a performance. India were resolute and played like it was another game. Sure both sides had nerves on show, but like a game of stare-down in the playground, it was the green shirts that averted its eyes once again. A lot has been said about the captaincy and the toss. A captain needs to show confidence in its team, first and foremost. Hafeez didn't trust his batting and the batsmen lost faith in themselves. Logically, he should have bowled first, but his poor faith undermined the entire team.

Posted by SoulTaker on (October 1, 2012, 10:25 GMT)

I Wish any one of the subcontinent team lift the trophy. Gud luck to SL, Pak and Ind....I think SL has the ability to lift this cup...anyways hope Ind wins the next match against Proteas...

Posted by Khans_word on (October 1, 2012, 10:24 GMT)

If a book was written on the history of Pakistan cricket in the second millenium, probably half the volume would be about the intriging encounters of India v Pakistan. This chapter would be entitled a journey into mental anguish. I remember a few years ago that a sports psychologist tried to diagnose and rectify this malady. The mindset seems like a stuck gramphone record. Pakistan hypes and builds itself up, fans and populations invest time and emotional enegry, hopes cresendo for a 90s-like extravaganza, a minnow-like performance follows, child-like monster fears manifest, players falter like whipping boys seeking a hiding place to whimper and fade away. The dragon slayers of the past are ever absent.

The South Africans with their pride dented will be a dangerous proposition and will come hard at India.I think India will find it hard to restrict the SA batsmen with the bowling being below par and lacking consistency. Expect South Africa to beat India and just about manage a spot in the final four.South Africa and Pakistan/Windies to join Aus and hosts SL in semi lineup.

Well, a very sorry performance by our players and including the coach who took india very lightly. 6 out of 10 wickets taken by their ''part-time bowlers'' to say! Cant say indians were a better side just our players played extremly poor cricket and should had prepared them selves for the part timers..

bmike lol i understand it is hard for others to see india winning the world cup , i mean come on man has england ever won the world cup :) lol wait i don't think so

and the same news anchors, after the loss they make each players as villain esp the Captain. To be honest India must look for good quality bowlers esp in fast bowling department. Zaheer Khan has lost his sting and Pathan can bowl well only when the ball is swinging. Other day Pathan was totally ineffective against the Aussies. And seriously I am not impressed with our current coach. He was totally ineffective in Australia and England. And he will be in serious pressure in SA next year when Indian team will tour there. If Indian team cannot produce the desire results then seriously he should put his papers down.

Absolutely Loved the battle Between Virat Kohli and Ajmal --- I would love to see more of Ajmal in December (3 ODI's 2 T20's).. Its been a while since this IND batting lineup was challenged by a Quality spinner...Hard Luck to Pakistan .. i think they crumbled under pressure... And equally happy to see some very good comments from Pak Fans - Unlike our SL neighbors who keep hiding behind every IND defeat against any team -- Hope we don't see them here for a while atleast!!! ---- VK's "dropped caches" were very difficult to take so i don't think that changed the game - i think "Professor" Gifted the match on a silver platter .. I hope you Guys win against AUS and we win against SA...Insha Allah

Posted by reality_check on (October 1, 2012, 9:50 GMT)

My prediction for this T20 WC is that Australia will lift the cup. They are a late comers to the T20 format but they are the only team who knows how to play it at this moment. You need strong openers in T20 and they have got it. You need strong bowling and they have got it. You need strong feilding and they have got it. Their middle order is untested but they are experienced batsmen so can cope with the pressure. Ind/Pak/SL fans (I am Pak fan myself) can jump all we want but fact remains a fact. Australia is the team to beat in this WC.

Posted by   on (October 1, 2012, 9:50 GMT)

Virat Kohli is the emerging India face and the team should rally around him-both cricket wise and determination wise.

Posted by ovzdatta151 on (October 1, 2012, 9:48 GMT)

The way both India and Pakistan are playing in this world cup it is like the pictorial of ECG. Only consistent team and dominant one is Australia and esp the way Watson is playing it is his tournament. His tornado batting really blown away every opposition bowlers. He looks so determined and focused on the field its really impressive and worrying for every opposition. Being an Indian, some times we Indian fans overdo our praises with every single victory of our team and over critical with every single loss of the team. I still recall all the critical comments of the Indian team after the loss against the Aussies. I am happy that India won against our arch rivals. But one must appreciate and accept to the fact that Pakistani bowlers are far more talented then our bowlers. I really hate the way our Hindi news channels anchors use there words after victory our Indian team and super critical after each loss. They make each players of the Indian team as Demi-Gods after victory....

Posted by reality_check on (October 1, 2012, 9:44 GMT)

First mistake and a big one: Hafeez choosing to bat first. Unless you have a strong batting lineup and are comfortable that you can put up a strong total (in this case 180+) then no reason to bat first. Even Aussies made India to bat first so Hafeez should have learned from that. Second mistake: When you have a small total to defend, you must have attacking field to take wickets and put pressure on the batting side. India did not have to hit 4's or 6's to reach the total. They were comfortably taking 1's and 2's and rotating the strike.

@Cricfan_99 "I think someone needs to tell him that people only remember champs and not the runners up". Hey hey is it the philosophy behind your sport, is it the thing taught you in the schools. pathetic. We, Sri Lankans only appreciate good sportsmanship bro. We never care what we achieved as ordinary people do, but how we achieved is the most important thing. That is the way lions behave. Participation is the most important part of sport. try to be a lion rather than a COWARD. Fight until die, don't give up. Win or loss is part & parcel of sport. Be honest enough to accept it bro.

Another theoretical possibility, if Pak beats Aussies with a Huge Huge margin & India register a comfortable win over proteas, than India & pak will qualify for semi final ;). Cricket can be a funny game sometimes....

Posted by   on (October 1, 2012, 9:39 GMT)

I feel sad that out of the three Pak, India, & South Africa, TWO will definitely be OUT by tomorrow. It looks ironical, when you see that out of NZ, WI, SL, England, TWO will be IN the semis, before we go to sleep tonight. This anomaly (of course debatable, and had been debated ad infinitum & ad nausium, already ) is partly, attributable to the prior seedings, and partly that was how the games went so far! Can't help it!

Posted by ravikb on (October 1, 2012, 9:35 GMT)

I really hope India and Pakistan are in Semis somehow. I don't want that one man Aussie team in the Semis. Please Pakistan, trash them in the next match.

Posted by   on (October 1, 2012, 9:35 GMT)

Many Many congratulations to INDIA. I must mention , it is really good to see a meaningful discussion going on this page other wise where ever (youtube, facebook, forums) i see indians and pakistanies discussing something they abuse each other with out any reason.

2nd Khooli is the best find i have seen in a decade as for as indian cricket is concern. I saw a bit of Dravid , a bit of VVS but this man is class. People talk about tenduklar but i personally do not praise him as i praise Kholi. Because Kholi has not only been a run getter but a finisher for India. Where as tendulkar made centuries and india lost most of the matches ( not denying his class he is no doubt THE BEST IN BUSSINES ).

As for as PAKISTAN is concerned i knew it was going to happen if we could not find a good start , our batting would collapse. Luckily Pak dropped catch of Kholi and also ajmal was not at best.

Pakistan has an edge against aussies as they beaten them in UAE and also they are not picking ajmal.

This was the most one sided affair in IND-PAK WC clash... India team look balanced.. Pak underperformed. It starts captaincy and strategy. Both were very poor from PAK

Posted by mgsperera on (October 1, 2012, 9:31 GMT)

Im a SL fan.I was expecting a action thriller.I must say Pk didnt play well.Bad decission to bat first + very ordernary captancy+team combination + Using main strike bowlers + Batting order all these matters did cost them badly.frm the begining tried scorring 200+ but got nothing in the end .Didnt u study this Premadasa pitch??? It is 160 + pitch which support to spiners & greater advantages for chassers !!!! Well played India . now the tournerment is wide open !!! Hope Pk will bounce back ....

Posted by challagalla on (October 1, 2012, 9:31 GMT)

I have never seen Pkistan play so timidly before. There was a time when India actually feared playing Pakistan and used to get soundly beaten in every ODI match. We never could win. Imran Khan's team defeated India once in India 5-1 if I remember right. India played with confidence and overcame the horrendous start by Zaheer Khan. Even the partime bowlers did their job and it just was one of those days when Dhoni could do no wrong. Sending Afridi up was a good move and It just was not Pakistan's day. We all know what Afridi can do and he is truly one of the hardest hitters of the ball today. Unfortunately he is going through the batting horrors. I still feel Pakistan has a chance but face a tough opponent in Australia. India has the advantage as they face a down in the slump SF and they play the last match and so know what they have to do to qualify. Its all going to be a matter of net run rate and playing the last match is an advantage.

I just realized that India won this super8 match after losing 7 consecutive super8 matches in T20 WC. OMG... 7 consecutive defeats. So winning a super8 match in T20 WC might give them a feeling like wining the T20 WC. They would be the happiest team even if they won't make it to semis(as they have already achieved their goal by winning a super8 match). Congrats India..!!! Keep it up...

Posted by   on (October 1, 2012, 9:21 GMT)

Pakistan's chance of qualifying for the semis shall solely depend upon taking Watson early. Warner won't be an issue since he will have no clue against the quality Pakistani spinners. But if Watson stays after 1o overs, u can kiss this WC good bye, provided India does not lose badly to the Proteas. Come on Pakistan, thrash the roos and let's make it to three sub continental teams in this WC.

Posted by ravikb on (October 1, 2012, 9:20 GMT)

@Habi, if 2 teams are tied with equal points, they will consider net run rate first, if still equl then head-to-head wins comes into picture.

Thanks for all the pak bros on congratulating india.. you all have big hearts., i would like to see both ind and pak in semis but i think it wont be possible as aus has very good runrate. if pak have to win on tuesday they should get rid of watson early., and if ind should win they hav to see steyn and morkel off and target other bowlers as ind struggle against quality pacers.

Posted by uvikash on (October 1, 2012, 8:42 GMT)

This is probably the best playing XI India have right now. I am personally not in favour of India playing 3 regular spinners as Sehwag, Yuvi, Rohit and Raina can work as part time spinners. So if we want to play an additional bowler i.e. Bhajji then we should probably drop Rohit to bring Bhajji.

Let me know honest opinions ...

Posted by Cricfan_99 on (October 1, 2012, 8:32 GMT)

@ rajithwijepura .. LOL - as someone said earlier - there are 2 constants which remain unchanged - India winning against PAK in WC and IND winning against SL in any game - LOL LOL LOL .....You would be very happy to see your team in SF & Finals of most of the tourneys and squander it and lose it BIG time - I think mahela thinks its a Big achievement after-all to reach SF and Finals - I think someone needs to tell him that people only remember champs and not the runners up!!!!

Posted by raj60 on (October 1, 2012, 8:28 GMT)

Pak made the stupid mistake of batting first, only if they had opted to chase they would have been thro to the semis. And Dhoni whether he likes it or not should realise now atleast that the team does well if they bat second against better bowling attacks.

Posted by MANSOB on (October 1, 2012, 8:25 GMT)

Thanks to PAK poor batting and fielding leads INDIA to victory. Razzaq should have played in place of YASIR ARAFAT as he neither can bat well nor bowl well. Wahab Riaz was in rhythm but was not selected (surprising for me).

Haffez is not a technically sound batsman and he has occupied an opening slot. This is the calibre of team management. It's time to say bye bye to HAFEEZ, AFRIDI, IMRAN NAZIR and even RAZZAQ. Until and unless our batting, and fielding won't improve PAK cannot become a world class cricket team in all formats. Such results are expected in future as well.

Posted by   on (October 1, 2012, 8:23 GMT)

@Habi- "pls. note that in case of a tie between PAK & IND, IND will qualify for SF on their Head2Head clash No Run Rate required."- You are wrong. If there are teams with equal points and equal wins in the Super Eight series matches only then in such case the team with the higher net run rate in the Super Eight series matches will be placed in the higher position. If still equal, the team which was the winner of the head to head match played between them will be placed in the higher position.

Obviously India is a very strong team they proved it last knight again Pakistan players not even near to Indian players they worked as a team! I must congrats Dhoni for his intelligence! By the way, Mr. R. Shasri commented about Yuraj witches really irritating I must say after all his straggle with his life and death his come back made Indian team more stronger as a bowler as a batsman as a all rounder he proves him self as a very importent cricketer for Indian team?

Before the match, I thought Pakistan had an edge over India- though somewhere in my heart I knew Pakistan can't handle pressure well- so, when Pakistani wickets started to crumble, I switched off the T.V and I knew Pakistan won't win this- but somewhere in my heart there was an illusion that Pakistan could score 180. Then I switched on the t.v and at that time Pakistan was in the rebuilding process- and then Shiob malik got out- and then again I switched off T.v. My illusions reinvigorated again and I thought we had Umar Gul. But my rationality buds suggested me that this was unlikely. and then again I decided to switched on the t.v. So, this is the dilemma of being a Pakistani fan. Congrats India for this win.

Posted by ibbani on (October 1, 2012, 7:54 GMT)

I see that many pak fans want Ind/SA match to be rained off, and the Aus/Pak also. To me Aus and Ind should win their matches without any issues. Pak is not a team to be entered into SF as they are chokers as SA. the lineup would be AUS, IND and SL, ENG. IND/ENG, AUS/SL - with IND/SL in finals - India winning th T20 2nd time. All pak, SL fans hate India team as their jealous and envy because they cant beat INDIA lol. rock on India, you are the best batting/bowling team, ignore the crow/owl shouts.

India deserved to Win with a calm display of their talent!

Hafeez got it totally wrong:

1- Won the toss and batted first despite the results thus far where over whelming majority of winners have batted second? showed his unease at chasing....showed defensive mind!

2- Batting so cautiously....No singles....this was worse that Misbahs TUK TUK!

3- Failed to analyse the problems from the last few matches! They might have won but there were lots of areas to address!

4- Field setting was absolutely attrocious! This is not a traditional Pakistani Captain first stance...Imran, Miandad, Waqar, Wasim, Moin, Inzi and even Misbah must be restless to see that! Pakistan is at its best when it attacks, especially in a Big Situation!

5- Other than bringing in Raza ta the start, the bowling changes were mediocre! Scattering Ajmal as a part timer.....Hafeez himself did not bowl considering his great economy rate....Constantly on Guls back...this does not work!

Posted by Habi on (October 1, 2012, 7:43 GMT)

PAK is not a weak team. Its a bad strategy & nervousness aided by worst batting that cost them match. As many mentioned below that PAK RR is high pls. note that in case of a tie between PAK & IND, IND will qualify for SF on their Head2Head clash No Run Rate required. Also there is a possibility that both IND-PAK will qualify with resounding wins in final group games. Cricket is a funny game. For those who said after AUS loss, IND is a minnow, SA too lost badly to AUS is SA too a minnow. Just one bad day will not make minnow or great. T20 is unpredictable and any team can win the cup. Moving Afridi to 3 is ok but Arafat for Razaq is ridiculous. Also send U Akmal at 4 Hafeez at 4 or 5. Somehow IND has the knack of dismantling gr8 bowlers be it Saqlain, Mendis (after one series success against them) Malinga, or Ajmal. In case of wash out on Tuesday AUS and IND will qualify for SF irrespective of Run Rate. Still I reckon PAK too has a gud chance. Hope Gr-2 team will win the cup.

Posted by sshadab on (October 1, 2012, 7:41 GMT)

I see a lot of -ve comments on Indian bowling, when it comes to T20 cricket it is not express pace that will take u anywhere, but the ability to execute the plans well and back that up with good fielding. Purely in terms of abilities of bowling from both the sides Saeed Ajmal is the best followed by Zaheer from India, but abilities did not get them any wickets. You have the worlds best bowler in Saeed and no slip fielder for him when he starts, uninspiring captaincy. What Bala, Ash, Yuvi and Virat did was bowl to a plan, and were backed up by xcellent fielding. Please understand that we won this match not because of Virat, but because of our bowlers. Even if Virat had failed (which is a rarity), we would have cantered to a victory. So want to finish of by saying, do not underestimate Indian bowling, even against the Aussies both Watto and Warner were lucky to have survived 2 plumb lbw decisions when Zak was bowling, result wd have been different if we had got the decision in our favor.

Posted by kunalx on (October 1, 2012, 7:29 GMT)

When India bowled out no 1 team for 90 runs, it was England's poor batting. When India lost to Australia it was India's wrost cricket, now today when India trash pakistan, it was Pakistan poor batting?? Are you kidding? One quick fact, India is the only team who bowled out their opponent thrice in 4 matches. Afgan, England, Pakistan. Still you will say India has poor bowling. Shocking!

Posted by Hira1 on (October 1, 2012, 7:26 GMT)

Posted by klapka on (October 1, 2012, 7:23 GMT)

Raza Hassan is an amazing find for Pakistan. Wish India had someone of his potential waiting in the wings. But that being said, for a young lad who's just started on international cricket, he abuses way too much. No harm done yesterday as Kohli is pretty systematic and does not take undue risks. But if he does the same against the likes of in form Watson/Dilshan/ Yuvraj he better arrange for a pick-up for the ball from the crowd at deep midwicket boundary. I think Pakistan qualifying for the semis would be the subcontinent's best shot at winning the cup as they have the best chance of beating the aussies - An India fan

Posted by   on (October 1, 2012, 7:07 GMT)

There's hardly any better feeling in the world than watching India completely dominate Pakistan and tear them apart-whoever says we shouldn't gloat is obviously a very level-headed person, but I love my emotions & let them flow-the crowd was 80% Anti-India and comprised of Lankans & Pakistanis all baying for Indian blood-but, that's when the sun rose, in all its might, and the Indians unleashed a brand of cricket that only comes to the fore when we are up against the Pakistanis. Everything Dhoni did just turned out to be perfect, and the Indians dancing in the stands got their money's worth! But, again, I wonder which India will turn up to play against SA, will it be the chilld-team that got thrashed by the Aussies on a feisty Friday, or will it be the all-conquering juggernaut that steamrolled Pak on Sunday-its anyone's bet :-)

Guys I know that we want India to win d tournament but why mock other teams? I see now some pakistani fans praising India after d match. Also why unnecessarily bring SL in every other article related to India? Btw SL and AUS r d teams performing consistentely in d tournament. So no need to call SL minnows and talking of how we beat them lately. Best of luck to India and then remaining Asian teams..

Not even indians but even other fans love the way this guy plays his game... I can't say he will be the next Tendulkar but he will surely be the next Dravid or VVS. All he has to do now is to keep his head down, focus well on the game and and make the country and the game proud. He can learn all these from Sachin. The rest and the records will automatically follow him. Good luck Kohli!!!

Afridi has become a liability for Pakistan. About time he is replaced with a youngsters like Hammad Azam. No idea what Arafat is doing in the squad. He shouldn't have been selected for a tournament is Sri Lanka based on performances in England and New Zealand. Making Hafeez captain has affected his batting. He should just stop trying to become a professor, keep his mouth shut and do what he does best... batting. Finally Mr Whatmore should also start doing what he is hired for i.e. devise some game plans for the team for different scenarios. Just sitting in the dug-ou and applauding good cricket shots won't help us !

@Front-Foot-Lunge An average team is one which comes into the tournament as defending champion and then gets bowled out for the lowest score in the tournament by what you call a "poor" team. If England was in this group, these two "poor" teams would have thrashed the living daylights out of them.

@Sitarah Anjum,u mean when indi lost to aus it was good performance by aus but when pak lost to india its bcoz pak played badly??what an hypocrates..and use of DRS in ICC events r depends solely on ICC,even in 2011WC DRS was there but in T20's DRS is not used bcoz it will stop the flow of tempo since T20 is a fast paced game, bcci never opposed drs in T20 WC,even in champions trophy next time DRS will be there, only in bilateral series use of DRS is decided by the teams and not stop giving and finding excuses and give credit to india rather than being a sore loser..and the way indian fans r behaving is bcoz ur pak fans did the same when india lost to dont act like a saint here ..cricinfo pls publish

@solid_snake, everyone had a field day two days back when India lost to aus and they even compared with Ireland ,Afghanistan or to remove test status for India. It amazing how people talk nonsense just for one match loss or win.Its good to see appreciation from indian and pakistan fans .Best part is many Srilankan fans are missing who were bashing the Indian team a few days ago,and as always Mark2011 always blames luck factor when India win or in srilanka win.How lucky srilanka was against WI ,that WI chose to bat first by winning the toss even though that pitch indicates chasing is better.Hope he blamed the luck factor for SL win.LOL.Its amazing to see such extreme ridiculousness in giving credit to winning team.

India has the mental strength when they see SL/PAK.Seems the battle is over before the game begins with the over cautious approach shown by PAK. It is the first one-sided game that i saw between Ind and Pak.Tough battle awaits for both PAK and IND.

Shafiq is alot better than Malik.he'll atleast stay in the wicket n. the strikes. Razzak is much better than afridi since not only afridi finds difficult to bat he cant stop the runs off his bowling. I wish shehzad was there for nazir. Iv been telling, hafeez is never a good opener against good bowling.jamshed needs to open. Finally hope pak doesn't bother much about the opponent on Tuesday n come down mentally.they need to believe in themselves n try to get Watson early. GO PAK GO!!!! Do it for us

Posted by cricket_fan_1980 on (October 1, 2012, 6:36 GMT)

It seems that bringing balaji against afridi was smart; not a 100% on the jamshed caught behind; why did hafeez hit at least 12 nice drives straight to the fielder?; Raza Hasan bowled pretty well; kohli is really becoming one hell of a legend ... needs to work on his attitude though; nazir really had no business walking across that zak delivery; yuvi really showed a lot of heart and his aggression is kind of justified, i guess just making his point, big comeback after a scary disease, that is really pretty admirable; umar gul is somewhere between unlucky and losing self-confidence, I can't work out where on that gradient he is; pakistan needs someone new and thirsty for success like asad shafiq, not these old guys like sami, razzaq, shoaib malik, problem is, malik does really well at domestic, so he is the best pick; our guys need to see T20I as an extension of U-19's, not as the foundation for an ODI squad. Tough debate that one, where does T20 stand, since Pak has done so well in it

Posted by Zaid_sl on (October 1, 2012, 6:35 GMT)

For those people who blindfoldedly recommend imran nazir, afridi and s.Malik in the playing 11. Remember cricket is not about whacking a weakend lineup. It's a sport where u need consistant players who can perform under pressure. If u r a batsman u should be able to find the gaps n rotate the strikes when the bowling is tough without trying to block the balls to the fielders n finally whacking one to the fielder. If u r a bowler u need to be able to vary ur deliveries n to restrain the batsman from attacking u.

Non of these players have the ability.they can't perform under pressure.they don't have the ability to find the gaps like kohli or any other good batsman.

Afridi doesn't seem to be taking wickets.that's ok but can't he atleast try to stop the runs off his bowling?.

Posted by mark2011 on (September 30 2012, 20:24 PM GMT), seriously you need to learn how to appreciate team who plays good cricket besides luck factor. Will you say the luck factor involved when sammy chosed to bat first even though in palekelle flat pitches, batting second is the safe choice. So its a luck that WI chose to bat first and SL won the game pure on luck by batting second.will you agree?Fielding ,batting and bowling are important part of cricket and if you don't do well in one thing, then you are going to lose.Is srilanka not lucky when opponent dropped Sanga many times?come out of this luck factor mate, There are players who put all their effort in the field and you call them as luck when they win.So keep this excuses to srilankan team when they win matches or learn from Sinhaya how to appreciate good cricket.

Apart from Pak losses I think there is lobby system in PCB. There is Wasim Akram lobby, Afridi lobby,Ramiz Raja lobby, Lahori lobby and there is also political influence in selection of teams. I must say we bring Asad Shafiq in all forms of cricket, Also bring Fawad Alam (First class average of above 50 which is more than any Pakistani cricketer at present except Younus Khan) the first Pakistani cricketer to score overseas century on test debut should be in the side. He was failed in test match in NZ and after that we drop him. They say that his technique/stance is not correct but then what about Sehwag technique. Stance did not matter as long as you deliver and bring something special. We waste Asim Kamal in this way. We must build team on players that play big matches and are difference maker rather than Hafeez, Kamran Akmal, Imran Nazir, type player who fire against low level teams.

Posted by smjr on (October 1, 2012, 6:11 GMT)

India bowl with purpose and plan (i) never bowled in the driving zone of batsman (ii) bowled slowly and just pitch before good length (iii) Never try to over spin or bowled fast (v) bowled little wide but not wide enough to be called wide ball (vi) Never tried yorkers as this might become full toss within batsman range. Also their Fielders are saving ones within the circle. All this plug driving shot on long off/long on as well as pull and hook shot with authority. On the other hand Pakistan never took attacking field, they should have played like test match with slip, silly mid off and a short leg. In this way batsman might got out as singles are choked and we may still loose but with better run rate than now. The match was already lost once the captain decided for defensive field as no bowler in the world could defend this small total on a benign pitch having to demons in it. Pak bowlers bowls fast and within the driving zones, bowl at time too short never mix up deliveries.

Both Pakistan and India face tough matches on Tuesday. If both Win their matches then India will most probably go through. If both lose then SA have great chance of going into Semi because they are playing last match of the tornament and will have better idea of run rate. So right now Pak, India and SA are in competition for semis. Great game of T20 Cricket. Pak beat Aussies twice in Dubai T20 series. So they can beat them in Colombo as well. I think Pak will go forward only if they win.Otherwise it will be either India or SA.This World Cup is flourishing and the ultimate winner is Cricket.

Posted by kc69 on (October 1, 2012, 6:10 GMT)

I see many saying that tuesday will be washout or some permutation and combination. It is very simple India or Pakistan should win their matches convincingly(forget all Net Run Rate)may the better team get to Semi's.

Something wrong is happening for Pakistan while batting. I seriously don't know what. Otherwise, the kind of batting/bowling talent that Pak possesses, they deserve more. But well played India. India clicks as a team in pressure situations unlike the Pak team. Now India face the mighty SA which ironically look good on paper, but are underperforming.

Posted by smjr on (October 1, 2012, 5:54 GMT)

The inevitable has happen. No matter how much we spend on foreign coaches, training sessions, advices we never got the killer instinct, the passion and fire once we play big matches with great teams. Great teams are those which has inner self belief in themselves, the spark, something extra to offer in crunch matches. India played with lot of discipline, plan and attacking cricket. Our captain is acting like peacock giving its mouth in sand in danger. He never attacked with his batting his field setting once the target is 129. Lost his confidence in his own bowling. Imran Nazir, suhail Tanvir, Hafeez, Kamran Akmal, Yasir Arafat, Sami are ordinary level players they only fire against NZ, BD, WI, Zimbabwe and in BPL, SLPL but they never sustain the pressure of big matches. Hafeez is so much nervous that I think we have no chance against Australia. For the last 7 years or so two teams can sustain big match pressure (i) Australia and India.

Posted by   on (October 1, 2012, 5:52 GMT)

India handled the pressure as they always n won the match so Congratulations Team india. Yesterday before match we were predicting results and every Pakistani comment including mine conclude that we are 90% accepted the defeat before match because of the previous stats that pak can not beat india in wc. so no man on earth can expect that a team of already physiologically defeated nation can win the match. So the only thing is pressure which i guess indians handle well , hopefully Inshallah we will beat Australia and get this cup after all we are playing for cup not playing to beat india as our soul moto ... Team Pakistan Love You no matter you win or lose because pure Pakistani blood is running in our veins and for sure we will always support you .

Most fans on both sides have ONE formula for better performance - changing players or changing the captain! This is the most immature, childish, regressive and counter productive approach. Glad the team managements don't have that sort of thinking. (Doesn't matter who you pick or do not, the ones in the middle have to perform, that's it!)

Posted by   on (October 1, 2012, 5:43 GMT)

Pakistan team's big blunder was to bat first after winning the toss against India.. Secondly, Abdul Razzaq was not included in team.. thirdly, pakistan promoted afridi was also a big mistake, next thing is umar gul should not play, because he is not good in bowling these days, hafeez captaincy was not good in this match.. he is too defensive, why hafeez gave bowling to umar gul while he is not in form...??? why saeeed ajmal introduce quite late in bowling attack..?

Posted by avani on (October 1, 2012, 5:37 GMT)

In most of the super 8 matches, the team batting first struggled to put up big scores and team batting second have chased easily. That is what happened in this match also. So perhaps even in coming matches winning the toss decides the winner. One thing I could not understand, why in the end Kohli & Yuvi delayed Indian win? If they had scored winning run 2 balls before we could have been in 2nd position in the table as per NRR. I think it was purposeful delay for some reasons! Can someone clarify?

Posted by johnleyj on (October 1, 2012, 5:36 GMT)

:) Before the start of the match, based on previous match performances I thought the PAK team had the upper hand. But yesterday things did not go PAK's way, seems the pressure got them.Being an Indian, I am indeed glad that India won & still in contention. To the media: please do not put too much hype on the IND-PAK match, let both teams play their natural game. I did not like the media reporting that either of the 2 jinx will be broken. Its just a game & do enjoy in that sense.

Predicting Afridi is not difficult at all.

Posted by   on (October 1, 2012, 5:28 GMT)

We all knew India is going to win.. Mohammad Hafeez is an ordinary player, he played ten overs and just made 15 runs, not a captain's knock, even Umar gul is a better all rounder than Yasir Arafat, Quality players in the side are , Umar Akmal, Kamran Akmal, and Shoaib Malik, they utilize them always later when team is under pressure, that never happens in big teams, like Autralia performs with top order, Quality players are not being utilized well.. Shahid Afridi was a better captain than M. Hafeez, Shahid is a brave player and more experienced than M Hafeez, Even if he is not firing, you can give the leadership to Shoaib Malik, successful captain.. He had to ball first against India, as Australia did, having a look at Super eight results, team batting second won the most of the times..

well played India. I was thinking that Sunday might be our last day in world cup with match against SA just a formality. But well bowled guys. I still believe Pak is better T20 team than us (but only outside the wc). We are saying about how strong Aus is and just after one game started to say how poor pak is. Now wait till Tuesday. Expect the unexpected. Only team looks capable of beating Aus is Pak. I hope Ind defeat SA and Pak defeat Aus. That mean Aus-Pak will through to semis and we would be out. But that will be fair as best two teams going ahead. And I will have satisfaction of winning 2 Super-8 games first time ever after IPL. And can sure say that my team is good though not best. If Ind defeats SA and Pak lose to Aus then we certainly deserve to be in top 4.

Brothers and Sisters you will never be able to win against india when it matters most until you have this GANDU ZARDARI as prsident. Even a blind can tell you that last six matches have been won by team bating second and now its seven matches. Even umar gul can chase 70 at 13.5 per over while chasing. This was played to loose from the 1st ball. I was a little surprised when india helped us to reach 25 in two overs by giving lots of extras.

Posted by VivtheGreatest on (October 1, 2012, 5:22 GMT)

Fantastic win for India over our arch-rivals but I still maintain we should be playing 5 bowlers. Our part-timers got away coz the Pakistani batting is so mediocre but it won't be the same against SL, OZ or WI. 7 batsmen for 20 overs is a real overkill. Drop Rohit or Raina as they dont seem to be doing much and bring back one more specialist bowler. As for Kohli- what a class act !! Some of his shots on the up reminded one of Sachin in his heyday

Our team made a tactical error after reaching the 100 run mark, they should have targeted to improve the NRR, as this is very crucial. I do not understand how they can miss this, especially with so many wickets in hand. South Africa matches up very well against India. Our team will need to play better than they did so far in this tournament if they want to get to the semis.

Good win by India. This group is real Group of Death. To all Dhoni bashers can you guys explain what the good has Shewag done. Didn't Shewag droped Hafees and Pathan scored more at same SR. I know most of his famous trick is not working eg: His unique way of bragging run out.But he is the best Captain India produced. So stop rolling Dhoni's head whenever we loose. Funny some Pundits wants Gambir who could't play a rookie spinner for India match but hits faster bowler for multiple 6s in a over something fishy here........

Posted by CricketFanIndUS on (October 1, 2012, 4:53 GMT)

Pakistan chose to bat first because 1) they have better bowling than batting and felt confident defending with bowling second 2) they have not been a good chasing team, even against SA they had a collapse before the late fireworks won the game in a dramatic fashion(by the way that was a great win) 3) their batting has not been in good nick lately and it becomes more of a pressure on their batsmen chasing. The reason for the result of this game is because they do not match up well against India in this tournament, just like India does not match up well against Australia. The relatively undisciplined bowling of India is likely to be punished by the Australian openers and also their over exposure to the Indian bowlers through the IPL makes them fully utilize the errors.

Posted by Anil_Koshy on (October 1, 2012, 4:48 GMT)

Once again it is proved beyond doubt that India's batting revolves around Virat Kohli, if he delivers India wins. Sehwag's innings was no better than Irfan Pathan, its high time that India should look for a replacement. Pakistan also made a tactical error by sending Afridi up the order, Jamshed was in good touch, there was not need to promote Afridi.

Posted by colombo_SL on (October 1, 2012, 4:47 GMT)

Zaheer was not at his best. His line was wrong most of the time. Bhalaji bowled really well. He may be a good asset for India. India should be very proud of having consistent batsman like Kohli.

MOM should be undoubtably Hafeez. 1. Selecting to bat 2. Awesome innings with no intention of rotating strike too. 3. Excellent captaincy to cap all the things. And to add a couple of other's show. Raza might be effective but still, Pakistan with a land of spin kings need him? Abdur Rehman might have been a more attacking option rather than this darter. Yuvi's throw to dismiss Arafat deserves mention. Was really thrilled. He is the ONLY Indian fielder who would pull off run out like that. And, oen of the best on whole. Might have loved Virat to finish of a couple of balls earlier. What-if both matches get washed off(Who knows with weather!) and Pakistan will go through now on NRR.

Replace Yasir Atafat with Abdur Razzak

Replace Shoab Malik with Asad Shafiq

In metaphorical terms India is the hammer and Pakistan is the nail. There is a clear mental problem here in the World Cup matches, although this Pak team is not greater than their predecessors who failed against much more mediocre Indian opposition, the fact has always remained that Pakistan has better bowling and India has better batting, but there is one major factor of the bowling side that is pivitol and unfortunately for Pakistan is always going to be the fielding that has to back up their major asset of bowlers, one can not work without the other, and that is where India have now managed to fulfil their bowling incapabilities.

Posted by andrew27994 on (October 1, 2012, 4:22 GMT)

I think Pakistan probably underestimated the Indian spinners and once they lost the important wickets of Jamshed and Hafeez they found it very difficult to make a comeback. I think the main liability for Pakistan is Hafeez. This is because he consumes far too many deliveries and hasn't quite converted any of his starts into big scores. By doing this he is putting a lot of pressure on the rest of the batsmen. I would like to see Asad Shafiq and Razzaq playing the last match in place of Nazir/ Hafeez and Raza Hasan.

Posted by RameshRayaprolu on (October 1, 2012, 4:20 GMT)

Posted by andrew27994 on (October 1, 2012, 4:15 GMT)

I felt that Pakistan brought Afridi a bit too early. They should have brought him about 3-4 overs late when the spinners were bowling. The moment Afridi walked in I told my gramps that he would get out to Balaji with a short ball and it worked eventually. I even went to the extent to predict the outcome of his bowling. I predicted he would get 1 wicket and that also came true. Somehow in this tournament whatever I said about Afridi came true. Even in the last match I predicted Afridi would get out 1st ball and it came true.

The way Indian batsmen applied themselves, India would have won even if Pakistan had scored 50 more runs. In getting to 129, they did not exert at all. With 3-4 big hitters sitting in the dug out getting 170-180 would not have been difficult add to it the propensity of Pakistan players to go hyper when facing Indian bowlers. They just do not learn.

Virat Kohli is simply amazing to watch. He just keeps improving after every match and very soon he is going to become one of the most successful batsmen in tests. If he can improve his attitude and behaviour on the field, he would probably become one of the most loved and respected batsmen of all time.

Congratz India. Good batting by Kohli. Why the Hell Pakistan elected to Bat First on this track against india ? Mean you allowed them to play with their strength. Its true that Pak got good bowling attack but Colombo's pitch play good for batting in lights, ball comes on the bat nicely and its easy to score runs. Its true that Pakistan Players gifted their wickets but 3 matches played on this pitch all won by teams playing second.

Posted by pitch_curator on (October 1, 2012, 4:03 GMT)

This is the nature of the T20 game. Heores one day and zeroes the next. I think the Pak batsmen were too anxious and played too many shots too early. And while bowling it was very obvious (to me atleast) that after a certain point of time, Hafeez was just trying to protect his net run rate which is a pragmatic decision. He made no effort to put pressure on the batsmen. It would be nice if we can loan Ajmal and Raza for the game against SAF. In return we can give Pak Kohli and Yuvi for their match against Aus... :-)

Sanjay and Ravi keep asking questions about Yuvraj fitness he will come with a match winning performances like this. What a gifted player. If he continues his good work like this then india has chance to go till the end.

well i am an indian and its good to finally see some sensible comments from either side. maybe it was just that bad day for pak that india had against aussies. all the best to both teams for their next match. go go go india

@Ind_Sachin: Which era you live in? Koli is talented young batsman for sure, nothing else.

Posted by NLS1 on (October 1, 2012, 3:21 GMT)

Firstly, India fans don't gloat on this win yet (we only need to recall what Aus did to us in the previous match and stay grounded) and Pak fans don't run down your team (your team did well in all matches so far except this one) and don't blame them. My vivid moments from this match - Hafeez selecting to bat first, Sehwag dropping an easy catch in the I over, Zaheer dishing out rubbish in the I over, Dhoni's two incredible catches in first few overs, Gambhir's brain freeze in the first over of India's batting and Raza's abuse of Indian batsmen and Kohli generously being dropped several times by Pak fielders. India looked a completely jaded and dispirited lot in the game against Aus and Pak looked under immense mental pressure in this match. It will still be fun if both these teams make it to semis although that possibility is like 1 in million.

Congrats India! Virat looking good for the future. However pak needs some changes.. Batting order vs aus: I Nazir- S.Afridi-U akmal- A Razzaq- K akmal- M Hafeez- S malik- U gul- S ajmal- M Sami- R hasan! Afridi and Nazir should fire and put up a good total. Razzaq is good with both bat and bowl.. Should bat first and score 190 + runs and defend it.. Innshallah pak will win and get to the semi ;)

Posted by spirit_cric on (October 1, 2012, 3:03 GMT)

PAK really miss misbah here! When he is in the middle order their batting is hardly collapsed! And at-least nw, Umar Akmal should b promoted up the order!

Posted by Shazia_Javed on (October 1, 2012, 2:52 GMT)

The Pak coaches and team trainers are pathetic... the worst they are doing is not leting the players have build a confidence in their talent. Every time a players bowls or bats well, he always mentions things like - my captain said me this and my coach said me that (if it was that simple, why these coaches dont say these "this & thats" in every match?). India may not be the best in the lot but their players seriously have a stronger mind set and they seem to give them confidence to perform without any pressure. Kohli did not mentioned anything that his captain/coach said this and that and that helped him play well, neither did Watson said anything like this in his last 4 MoM awards. No one can account these coaches/team management... it is always on the players at the end. Funny joke was when they sent Miandad in last week with the team to help with their batting...Awesome, only happens in PCB.

Posted by Bharatvarsh.. on (October 1, 2012, 2:34 GMT)

well played by india..improved bowling performance.pakistan,if they had 150 on the board would have given india much tougher challenge, but i get the feeling they and SL are the 2 teams which can beat australia with their varied bowling india has to beat SAF without any second thoughts..for pak to win, they have to give umar akmal promotion.akmal smashed aussies in last world cup.for india to win, they have to drop pathan from the team and bring bhajji in,pathan will thrashed by SAF, i guess, also he might do little with the bat agnst SAF attack.

Posted by sailani_nyc on (October 1, 2012, 2:24 GMT)

Pakistan has a hugely talented side, but as Imran Khan once pointed out, our batting is inconsistent because we do not select players with the temperament of Zaheer Abbas, Miandad or Saeed Anwer anymore. All of them came from the Sind province (mainly Karachi). What he was alluding to is the sad fact that for some time now the selectors have willfully ignored selecting some batsmen on merit. It probably suits the selectors to keep doing what they have doing. However to the fans, it does not matter that Zaheer Abbas was from Karachi or Inzamam from Punjab. Wearing a Pakistani green shirt and scoring runs consistently is how they are remembered. As long as we do not select an all inclusive balalnced Pakistani side, the fans will be on a roller coaster ride every time Pakistan plays. Not knowing when it will crash and take our spirits down with it.

Posted by AnoMaLy on (October 1, 2012, 2:22 GMT)

@Front-Foot-Lunge - It was fun to watch Eng get out for 90 odd runs. Now that was real comedy cricket. @ Lankans All hiding now I bet! What happened boys? No comments now that Pak has lost. Hating on India isn't gonna get u far.

Posted by Legaleagle on (October 1, 2012, 2:14 GMT)

Bhagwaan is helping India very well. India played very good! I think it is time for Pakistan to get rid of Shahid Afridi- he misfires more than he does anything good for the team. He is always undone against good teams.

Posted by Prakmca on (October 1, 2012, 2:14 GMT)

good to see Harbajan dropped against the crucial match. Same to be done for Zaheer khan also. Part timers can bowl better than Zaheer. Time to look for young fast bowling prospects.

Posted by   on (October 1, 2012, 2:10 GMT)

Pakistan will not reach very far with that weak batting lineup. India's bowling have nothing special or very weak some people may say, yet Pakistan batsmen struggled miserably. This only highlights the brittleness of their batting. On the other hand Pakistan strong bowling attack was matched by India's consistently strong batsmen. It is rather difficult to see Pakistan overpowering Australia who have a much stronger bowling attack and the best openers in the competition so far. Pakistan had a golden opportunity to qualify for the semis but threw it away. Hafeez seemed to have given up playing positive with the bat or attacking with field placing.

Posted by criccrazy79 on (October 1, 2012, 1:52 GMT)

I agree Zahid Saltin. Pathetic captaincy by Hafeez and also rubbish batting by him. He made 15 off 28 balls. Now tell me Hafeez is this an ODI match that you are playing so slowly. Why the hell did you choose to bat first. If you wanted to do so, then he should have ensured that Pakistan make at least 170-180 runs. Look how India made laughing stocks of Pakistan. Whenever Pakistan face India they completely melt just at the sight of them. And also what kind of expert bowlers are Balaji,Kohli and Yuraj that Pakistani batsmen struggled against them. Kohli and Yuvraj were shocking against Australia, and yet look at how they thrash Pakistan's good for nothing batsmen.Wh put Razzaq in the squad if he's not even going to play a single match!! Razzaq is 10000 times better than Afridi and Arafat together.

Posted by   on (October 1, 2012, 1:50 GMT)

Balaji,Yuvraj did a good contribution for India in bowling attack......hope that they will do the same for next game

Posted by   on (October 1, 2012, 1:42 GMT)

Is there a way that Pakistan and India both make semis?

Posted by   on (October 1, 2012, 1:41 GMT)

I don't know, whether I am imagining! In recent years, the great player Afridi, misfires, when playing under someone else. And all fired up, when he is made the captain. I, somehow, feel the same way about Gouti too. The way he plays when he is the captain of KKR, as opposed to when he plays under someone else for India. Of course, both observations are recent phenomena, not the case at least a few years ago, when both were great assets for their national teams!I hope both are great players and prove me wrong.

Posted by   on (October 1, 2012, 1:39 GMT)

This is a good win.But I feel really sorry for Dhoni, for what's happening with his decisions.I too back his idea of going with 5 bowlers. The tricky part here is, when he went with 5 bowlers they got thrashed by Aus, but the 4 bowler game plan worked well against Pakistan. Now to the obvious question - can he resist picking up 3 spinners against SA ? If we want to drop a pacer who it will be ?( considering Balaji and Pathan did well against Pak).I think he will go with winning 11, in a hope that Yuvi , Raina and Kohli do really well with the ball

Posted by   on (October 1, 2012, 1:36 GMT)

So many Pakistani fans congratulating Indians and praising Yuvi's comeback after a tough time. You won hearts guys! I always felt Ind and Pak as two brothers or close neighbours who would be more interested in romping each other down than the rest of the world as it happens in daily life for neighbours or envious brothers. As I said I had wished both teams to go through :(. Pak is a such a fantastic and flamboyance team. They should beat Aussies to post their supremacy despite the fact what happens next in Ind vs SA match. Hail Ind and Pak!!

Posted by   on (October 1, 2012, 1:32 GMT)

@Sitarah Anjum - I'm not sure you followed the match, or atleast commentary on Cricinfo.Nasir Jamshed is clearly out and there is a definite nick.

Posted by indiafan76 on (October 1, 2012, 1:28 GMT)

Here is a simple match analysis: Pak won the toss. During Pak batting, they won overs 1-2, Ind won overs 3-11, Pak won overs 12-15, Ind won overs 16-20. During Ind batting, Pak won overs 1-3, Ind won overs 4-10, Pak over 11 and India overs 12-17.

Simple math... India won more parts of the match and therefore match !!

Posted by   on (October 1, 2012, 1:28 GMT)

@ indiafan76: I think your statement is slightly incorrect. If India and Pakistan both win their games. Then, the team with higher run rate will go through to the semis. Please see the link on this same website for clarification:

>>>>copy>>>> The most wins in the Super Eight series matches. If there are teams with equal points and equal wins in the Super Eight series matches only then in such case the team with the higher net run rate in the Super Eight series matches will be placed in the higher position. If still equal, the team which was the winner of the head to head match played between them will be placed in the higher position <<<paste>>>

Posted by Dark.Matter on (October 1, 2012, 1:24 GMT)

kohli is such an artist. What a player he is . i pray Pak youngsters learn from his footwork and elegance and domination. Pak players nerves always start to tingle when they play against India. thats the only fact in losing their matches . Its really a mental block in there heads. i think decision to promote afridi up the order was right and he was not playing bad because he was middling the ball today. but again unlucky he was . got out early . and the real turning point was when shoib malik got out followed by umer akmal . they did recover at that pint but again the combination of nerve and hard luck let them down. Fortune favors brave is the moral of the story.well played india(from die hard pak fan).

Posted by gitapat on (October 1, 2012, 1:21 GMT)

Let us face facts. India does not have quality bowlers excepting Ashwin. Zaheer Khan is past his prime and he is still playing because there is no other option. Dhoni finds that his part time bowlers like Yuvraj are better than the specialist spinners like Harbhajan and Chawla. It is for this reason that he goes with seven batsmen plus four bowlers. And even with these seven batsmen if Kohli fails India wobble.

Posted by LilAnzac on (October 1, 2012, 1:21 GMT)

Congrats India. Cricket is a game of mental toughness and the team who can remain calm and soak up the pressure best will triumph. Pakistan look to be a totally different (poor) side when up against their neighbors. Maybe too much mental scarring for Pak and pressure gets the better of them. In saying all that Virat Kohli is such a talent and looked in cruise mode. He is to India what Watto is to the Aussies. Let's have a game between Aus and Ind without these to guns.. Would be interesting.

Excellent knock by Kohli. But this match was won by India's so called "mediocre bowling". Dhoni is a great captain. He knows South Africa don't play spin well. He will most likely play an additional spinner. Maybe drop Gambhir this time. Sehwag's attitude seems to have improved after he was "rested" for a couple of games.

Posted by Syed_imran_abbas on (October 1, 2012, 1:00 GMT)

Arfat? can he win you a match??? never... Why dont you get some one he can you a match? How many more chances for imran nazir? and Shoiab malik? Kamran is waste in middle order. My team for next match would be: (1) Kamran Akmal (2) Hafeez (3) Nasir Jamshed (4) Asad Shafeeq (5) Umer Akmal (6) Shaoib malik (7) Afridi (8) Razzaq (9) Gul (10) Tanvir (11) Ajmal

When Hafeez won the toss he should have bowled first because every team that has batted first has always struggled on this pitch.

Posted by indiafan76 on (October 1, 2012, 0:55 GMT)

Here is the scenario for India to Qualify: 1) Aus win vs Pak: India can qualify by winning against SA or by loosing to SA by not more than 3 runs or with 1-2 balls to spare. This will keep them above SA in NRR (and also above Pak assuming Pak didn't loose by less than 2 runs) 2) Pak win vs Aus: India has to win against SA and have a better win compared to Pakistan's win by 1 ball or 2 runs.

For Pak to qualify, Pak has to win and hope India don't have a better win. They have almost no chance if they loose. Either Ind or SA will overtake them on NRR very easily.

Posted by redstorm789 on (October 1, 2012, 0:52 GMT)

India missed oppurtunity to improve run rate with 8 wickets in hand.if Aus vs Pak and Ind vs SA matches are washed out , Pak will go to semis based on runrate beating India by just .02 i.e 1 run/1 ball .

Posted by ultrasnow on (October 1, 2012, 0:37 GMT)

Indian fan here. I think the entire game was won and lost in the mind, not on the field. There was a time in the 80s and 90s when the Indian team has this huge mental block playing Pakistan (it was THAT Miandad six that did it). It took an entre new generation of Indian cricketers to turn things around against the old enemy. I say the game was won and lost in the mind because Pakistan still seems like the team to beat if they can get to the semis. India look like they could get trashed again if the run into the Aussies. Good luck to both teams from here. Bad luck Pakistan fans, we know how to feels when you lose to the old enemy! That's what makes this rivalry one of the greatest in modern sport.

Posted by lobsterchampion on (October 1, 2012, 0:35 GMT)

Excellent performance by Indian team. They proved once again that they are better in handling pressure. This win has kept India in hunt for the semifinal spot. I think from this group, it will be Australia and either Pakistan or India. I am not counting South Africa out, but they will have to perform out of their skins in the next match and hope Pakistan lose to Australia. For those commenting that if both India and Pakistan win, Pakistan will go through, that is not true. It will come down to net run rate and if India beat South Africa more comprehensively than Pakistan beat Australia, then India will go through. Also if both India's and Pakistan's matches are rained off, India will go through as they have a better head to head record against Pakistan.

(2) WHO TOLD HAFIZ that Arfat is a better batsman than Umar Gul so he should come before Gul (3) IS HAFIZ not concerned by his strike rate, he got out in 10th over with 15 to his name (4) How could he not have a slip and attack when he knew that india can only lose by getting. (5) Why not play Razzaq, specially when Afridi is nothing more than a bowler (6) Why bat first when every one knows that it is easier to bat in lights and that india could chase any score pakistan could make. (1) I censored point 1 as it was bit abussive for not playing razzaq.

Posted by Hasnat-18 on (October 1, 2012, 0:10 GMT)

Pakistan are themselves to blame for this shameful defeat.Team selection is so poor that on batting surfaces their wickets are crumbling in each game. With this batting line up they can't win the title. On top of that so many drop catches in the field. At least they should change batting order and send Umar Akmal on No.3. Indian made sensible changes for this match and deserve this brilliant victory.Anyway positive aspect is that tornament is still alive for every team.Best for cricket. Congrats to India from Pakistan.

Joke of the day from Sitarah Anjum.

Jokes apart, Pakistan needs to grow up and better cope up the pressure. Every time they come against India in Word cups they crumble. For me , this was the most important match of the tournament and we Indians won..PERIOD.

AUS is pace heavy and Razzaq will be really handy to come at 3.

Posted by Zahidsaltin on (September 30, 2012, 23:51 GMT)

NOT BECAUSE PAKISTAN LOST TODAY, but What is Arfat's role in this team. Don't tell me that he got 5 wickets. Those are boundry catches and mostly in last 2 overs when the opposition hits it out blindly. His bowling has no teeth and he is beaten up by all the batsmen. Whole of Pakistan wants Razzaq to be played but Hafiz and Watmore must be out of their minds not doing so even watching the pakistani batting being torn apart by part timers like Yuvraj and Kohli. Look at Balaji and look at performances of Gul & Arfat. BRING IN RAZZAQ SPECIALLY WHEN AFRIDI THE BATSMAN IS DEAD.

Well first of all those Indian fans who are getting over excited and hyped by this victory and saying India thrashed Pakistan please calm down. Its Pakistan who played poor cricket and gave away match. If you really want to know what thrashing is then pls watch the highlights of Ind vs Aus game again and see how Australia thrashed India! Whether it was the pressure or poor captaincy of Hafeez and rash shot selection of Pakistani batsmen but the bottom line is this can not go on for ever. We've seen this enough. They keep on throwing away matches. Now Dave Whatmore has to come up with some solid strategy to bring these guys back to their basic cricketing technique. Time to grow young blood for the next world Cup. Many players do not even justify their place in the team. Likes of Afridi, Malik, Nazir, Tanvir have been given enough time. Decision to give Nasir Jamshed out also contributed to defeat. I fail to understand why Ind oppose compulsory use of DRS in international tournaments!!

Posted by Ajayvs on (September 30, 2012, 23:21 GMT)

Congrats to team India. Not to play spoil sport, we should be conscious of the fact that the South Africa game is going to be easy. I'm sure they are going to come hard at us, one because they now have a chance to qualify and two because their pride would be immensely hurt by the 2 super 8 losses. Gary Kirsten factor might be important, if anybody knows the strength and weakness of India team it would be him. Also the team batting second in day night matches seem to be having an advantage. They are not only able to win but are able to win handsomely, so toss could be a crucial factor as well. Final word on the fans, after the loss to Australia I saw some obnoxious comments from SL/PAK/BAN fans. I know our Indian fans are not saints too, they also write some ridiculous things. I request moderation in comments from all fans, Cheers.

Kamran,Yasir,Shoaib,Sohail,Gul,Afridi- have been tested & are performing consistently so poor(check their last 10 or 15 matches stats).Once in a blue moon, one of these do a little better & they are granted another one year of career strech.Talking about experience, if this was the reason to select the players then Imran, Wasim, Waqar are more capable of making the final 11. Razzaq, is a poor fellow. He surly does not have any good contacts to be selected. Selecting Arfat and using him for one over & batting so poor... makes Razzaq's case much stronger. Gul, his bowling is worst than the part-timers in most teams. Pak team/mamangement/coaches are so scared of the defeat that they dont trust in trying new young talented players. Some are waiting for years, regardless of the worst performances by the 'experienced players. No one in Pak will agree that Pak dont have better bowlers than Gul, Arfat, Tanvir. Poor fans, they watch these and feel more pain in realizing it than the defeat itself

Posted by   on (September 30, 2012, 22:17 GMT)

To be honest Pakistan is always nervous against India and they always rely more on prayers and miracles rather than their performance. Lack of consistency is the major problem. They are super hero in one game and super zero in the next one. On many occasions the half of the team players are the ex. captains. Sadly we often notice that many players play not for the country but for their own records. I think Afridi and Imran Nazir will never change their mind or nature to stay at the wicket so you better use them the during power-plays. Umar Gul can be a useful opener like Shane Watson and there is no reason to keep them at number ten or eleven when there is no hope for victory so you better take advantage sending him as opener and also during power-plays.

Class-Apart, Not True. Pak needs to win by about 40 runs margin to qualify regardless of the next match...

Congratulation India. I have seen few people bragging little too much about India's intact record against Pak in WC. I suspect they are not Indian fans and are trying to instigate Pak fans towards us. Here is my advice to those suspicious elements: gone are the days when fans of both the countries were ready to kill each other over a cricket match. Fans on both the sides have matured so much. We enjoy healthy rivalry. We appreciate great Pakistani talent and so do they. So don't try to play foul. It ain't gonna work anymore. Bad luck Pakistan. Better team on that day won.

Being a Pakistani, I am happy to see my team to lose against India. We have won games mostly either we have bowled well OR we batted well. In the last game, we were so lucky to have come through as winners otherwise all the batsmen did their best to lose the game, that should have been won easily. Now, if we want to qualify, we need to come back hard against Aussies (which is highly unlikely, but that's what Pakistan cricket has always been). If we can't beat Aussies, we obviously don't deserve to play SF, and if we do and still will not qualify (if Ind beats SA with better RR), then it will be a learning lesson for us.

Till this match, all the Indian fans were saying that Do some changes.Bring such and such player in and kick out some players.Dhoni's captaincy was also being criticized so much.It was Do or die situation for India.Suddenly with a win everything has changed lol..Suddenly Indian team has become the worlds best and Pak team has become very ordinary. Some people also saying that Pak team should not be playing in the Super 8..Well Sorry to Disappoint you. This Pak team was the one of the best performing teams so far in this WC..Suddenly with a defeat how on earth could a team become ordinary and below BD level. India played well and they Won.Congrats but there is no need of saying things like that about Pak team

ARRGGGHHHH!!!!!! Pakistan batsmen could not handle the pressure and committed/played "HARAKIRI"/reckless shots ! Cograts. to India, kept their W/Cup record intact.

I have to say that us Pakistaneez and Indians love cricket more then any other country (Australia and Sri Lanka coming close). However, most of our assumptions and reactions are full of emotions and no brain. If our team wins a match, we start shouting we are the best and if we loose, we suddenly become the worst. I think there is a firm middle ground there and we need to develop a better sportsmanship!

Well done to team India for winning this match. Virat Kohli certainly is one of the best batsmen in the world right now. Team Pakistan has done superbly well in this tournament (they beat SA in the last match) and we should not loose hope. I see team Pakistan beating Australia in the next match inshallah and then the odds going in our favour!

Balaji is displaying awesome potential for booking a place as a premier medium pacer in team India. In this period of spineless bowling performances, he should be given more of a chance. Also talents like Rahane, Tiwary and Badri should be reconsidered. I think Umesh Yadav and Varun Aaron have to be trained to maintain a proper discipline to succeed as they've already got the pace required.

I truly and seriously do NOT understand that why is Indian bowling regarded as below average ? despite they did all out Pak team ? Matches are not won purely on the basis of batting. Although, i agree Indian batters are 'Big Gunners', but please all stop blaming Indian bowling, start to give some credit as well for their job.

Another thing i totally criticize the criticize of ex players / selectors for targeting Yuvi again & over. You guys were targeting him also before the 2011 ODI WC started and he proved all of your wrong. And you guys have started again and he proved all of you again ! Please, stop pointing fingers at him, point to others who definitely do NOT deserve to be in. Bring in Mk Tiwary in place of Rohit. Let the team go in with 7 Batters. Play with 4 spl bowlers, Bhaji, Ashwin, Zak & Balaji. Part timers & Ik Pathan can do the rest of the bowling magic. My suggestion, Indian openers should play just like Wato. All the very best against Proteas. Indian fan from US of A.

Pak team went down without a fight..The body language of Hafeez,it never felt like he is on the field with a hunger to win.He was acting as if it is his last match and world is gonna end tomorrow.Because of his slow batting pressure kept on building on other batsmen. An opener batsman scoring 15 runs on 28 Balls in a T20 Game..Come on man Hafeez didnt even try to take singles. Also if our batsmen cannot play bowlers like Kohli and Yuvraj. Then God save all of our batsmen.I wont even put both of them in the category of bowlers. And yet our batsmen were getting out in such a pathetic way. And sending Afridi after Nazir Went down,it was an excellent tactic. It is another story that Afridi couldn't live upto the expectations. But the decision was great..

Pakistan team CAN NOT beat India in World Cups. I told you so. This is really going to pump India to the title now. India is going to win 2012 twenty20 World Cup. Mark my words! FORTUNE FAVORS THE BRAVE!

Posted by   on (September 30, 2012, 21:40 GMT)

1. I am an Indian, and unlike some of my compatriots here, winning the World Cup is more important to me than beating Pakistan (as important as that is!)

2. One match doesn't change facts, and the fact still remains that Pakistan still remains one of the best T20 teams in world cricket. But any team which relies completely on natural talent to win matches, with almost no strategic game plan (I'm looking at you Shahid bhai!) is always bound to be inconsistent. Keep your chin up Pakistan fans, your team will bounce back!

3. India must immediately shift focus to South Africa, and think about how to counter Steyn/Morne and Amla. We are looking good for a semis birth. Hoping we keep it up!

both INDIA and PAK are unpredictable teams.DOnt know when they will rock and when they will break.

Posted by   on (September 30, 2012, 21:38 GMT)

well it was overall a great treat to watch the team deliver in a high pressure game!!

Posted by   on (September 30, 2012, 21:36 GMT)

When it comes to Pak vs India match in the world cups, why history always repeat itself :( . But well played Indian team, the deserved the victory. Hafeez captaincy was in question, as his captaincy completely crumbled. I hope that in future the result would come in favor of Pakistan. But t20 is always a great game to watch. I liked MS Dhoni captaincy, he is really cool. Good luck both the teams for their progress. I think SA should win this world cup.

Posted by intrepid_khan on (September 30, 2012, 21:34 GMT)

firstly, congrats team india ! our defeat is a product of multiple factors that Hafeez created ... first, winning the toss n choosing to bat on such a pitch , secondly , choosing yasir arafat ahead of RAZZAQ !!! Razzaq could have made a real difference to our batting show ... it seems like their is a mental barrier in our boys when they play india in WC matches thats getting stronger by every defeat ! hope they break that barrier soon !

Posted by   on (September 30, 2012, 21:32 GMT)

The last match vs Sa reminds me of 2007 super eight last match vs SA at Durban. Hope the same repeats!

Posted by   on (September 30, 2012, 21:31 GMT)

I think the main difference between two teams is captaincy as Dhoni is far more better captain than Hafeez that was really very bad decision to bat first apart of that Hafeez field placing was very poor he should have attacked by putting attacking field which wasn't happened by defensive mind of Hafeez. Now its up to on Tuesday crucial match against Australia which is only unbeaten team reamain in tournament but i still belive Pakistan is the only team which can tackle Australian batting line if we could got out Watson, Warner and Hussy cheaply then Pakistan can win the Match it will be one tense day on Tuesday as all eyes will be on both matches either Pakistan loose or win the match.

Posted by Late-Cut on (September 30, 2012, 21:30 GMT)

South Africa will launch a full frontal assault, throwing everything they've got and India won't know what hit 'em. :)))) Last time, India got Watsoned. This time they are gonna get Proteased !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by Tit4Tat on (September 30, 2012, 21:28 GMT)

Oh My My, i think win against pak not only brought the confidence back in the team but also in the fans too, that is why their attitude is changed rapidly. (forgot how Aussies just THRASHED you recently?) dont 4get its a T20 and anything can happen to any team. And if pak team is minnows then why you guys over joy a win against minnows. I think the main competition starts from now ON. May the best team win. sighhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Posted by AbdulHanan on (September 30, 2012, 21:22 GMT)

Had Pak. bowled first against India, the results would have been different. Indians arebest chasers, specially against Pak. Immature captaincy. Pak shoud play against Aus with razzaq instead of Yasir and should promote Razzaq up the order. Afridi doesnt have confidence and still plays without using his mind. he should come just before the bowlers.

Posted by   on (September 30, 2012, 21:20 GMT)

@mel_vin SA against India in subcontinent... Perhaps SA is the weakest against spin among all non-subcontinental team and this Indian team have Harbhajan,Aswin and also Yuvraj is turning out match for regular bowlers... I can imagine Warne's bunnies of late 90's and early 2000's passed over to Harbhajan,Aswin and Yuvraj in the Tuesday match.

Posted by indiafan76 on (September 30, 2012, 21:20 GMT)

India overtaking Pakistan was not very critical. India winning by a MUCH bigger margin was the target. To overtake Pakistan, India only has to perform better by 2 runs in the next match. To stay ahead of SA, India has to loose by 3 or less runs. So effectively, they have to win the next match OR stay close till last ball to qualify. Here is the scenario for India to Qualify: 1) Aus win vs Pak: India can qualify by winning against SA or by loosing to SA by not more than 3 runs or with 1-2 balls to spare. This will keep them above SA in NRR (and above Pak also assuming Pak didn't loose by less than 2 runs) 2) Pak win vs Aus: India has to win against SA and have a better win compared to Pakistan's win by 1 ball or 2 runs.

Posted by Al_Bundy1 on (September 30, 2012, 21:19 GMT)

Excellent knock by Kohli. He is a much better batsman than 10dulkar ever was. Good to see the sportsmanship displayed by Pakistani players. All of them stopped by to shake Kohli's hand after the match.

Posted by svenkat02 on (September 30, 2012, 21:18 GMT)

@Stateside_Steve: SPOT ON!! Couldn't have put it myself more better.... Aus gave SA the same dose, and nobody's complaining. Its just that when we win, we celebrate hard and so when we lose, people come to rub it in (though we don't celebrate at their expense).

@ foooooooooooooooooo on (September 30 2012, 17:28 PM GMT) ; had Pak bowled first, it would be same choke to India lie in Aus match.. bcos of MSD's luck they choose to bat.. that's what simple results, it was that decision cost Pa match and another lucky inning drop catch Kholi help Ind to win.. dont be over jump as u do alway jus one win...

@@mazdonal and critical Pakistani fans: You never know which Pakistan team will turn up on any given match. Brilliant? Super or Poor?. Again any of the team can win the WC. That is what matters. Neither the path nor the defeat to India / Pakistan matters. Australia is not satisfied by beating Eng or SA. They just keep moving even with defeats in league phase. They just keep attacking and give 100% in fielding even in a loss / predictable loss. That is where Asian teams fail.

Hats off to pak cricket team for great job against india??? Is pak players have sense except akmal, ajmal , how it can b accepted al time, still there is no quality player to stand in the crease n Arafat is not eligible player to play fr international team, Wat about razak he's verygood cricketer. eligible fr t20. Fcame, afridi is out of form still watmore expecting frm him, give chance to shafiq instead f afridi, pak. bat s man's r blinds while batting, feilding,, it was very poor n shame cricket by pak, team is totally damaged except some players ,watmore!! What more??? Is this ur experience? Is this perfect way to train a players? U first choose correct playing 11, Thn everything will b in controlled properly. Expecting to win against Aus Plz don't play such a foolish shot, pick quality 11 fr upcoming games, kick off Arafat, afridi,, insha Allah, I hope u in semi,, by pak grest fan:::

i am surprised that pakistan is not giving chance to abdul razzaq afridi is only avering 7 runs a game in this world cup. great game and win for india it was good that pathan didnt open the batting again. next match against south africa is the most important one, gambhir and sehwag needs to stick around for at least 50 runs in partnership

India's great batting lineup collapsed against Australia and oh, by the way, SA has better pace bowling. Oh what a time to be a fan of team India. Please accept Dale Steyn as an honorary member of your team so he can bowl against SA and the Aussies. I think that the Aussies look the strongest team so far and good luck to them if they win.

Well, Pak spinners didn't adopt the rules Indian had which was to keep spin bowling low because the pitch allowed it. Pak bowlers continued to bowl as if it was some ordinary spinning track. Anyways, even top class bowlers like Ajmal would need to re-invent himself when facing masters of run chasing.

Posted by Pak_Fan86 on (September 30, 2012, 21:14 GMT)

Congrats to Indians from Pakistan! Let's ignore our emotions and tell truth. India outplayed us and proved once again that they are much better side when it comes to pressure matches between India and Pakistan. To be honest, this thing was already in my mind, so i wasn't that much shocked. So many many congratulations to all the Indians from all Pakistanis. They really played well. Now this group has got quite interesting with all possibilities possible. Day after tomorrow, everything will be cleared. Let's hope Pakistan brings out with some good performance and give some happiness to us :P PS: Kohli, i dont have words to praise you enough!

Posted by   on (September 30, 2012, 21:13 GMT)

one thing goes un noticed again is the pathetic bowling by zaheer khan. Shastri and Manjrekar were after Yuvraj's case. Sehwag gets critized all the time as well. But what about Zaheer Khan? He has not performed for ages and goes for plenty of runs.

Posted by krishna_cricketfan on (September 30, 2012, 21:11 GMT)

Even after the low score, Pakistan captain did not attack. No slip after the initial overs. Pakistan spinners are really bowling well and they did not get support from the captain. How can this be called as pressure situation? Just imagine a Javed in this situation. Again Pakistan dropped catches and ground fielding was not up to the mark. It will not be easy for Australia though against Pakistan bowling. With Pakistan nothing is predictable. Brilliant one day, poor day after and super on the third day. My comment is due to the potential of Pakistan team and not that I am an expert. With an aggressive captain this match could have gone to the wire.

Posted by smfaisalhussain on (September 30, 2012, 21:10 GMT)

Hoping for a miracle here ........... how many of u want to see Pak absolutely thrash the Aussies (very unlikely!), followed by another one sided victory over SA by India, leading to both Ind/Pak progressing to the semis! Its gonna be one hell of an event if there is another Ind/Pak final!!

Posted by Shouldas-Wouldas-Couldas on (September 30, 2012, 21:09 GMT)

LOST IN THE MINDS. Once again, Pakistan succumbed to the pressure of playing India in World Cup. Pakistan batsmen could not handle "the NERVES" and played/committed "HARAKIRI" shots. My disappointment is that our batsmen did not play to their 'potential' ! Cograts. to India for convincing win ! KOHLI showed his CLASS again!

What about Rahane, to replace Gambhir...?

Posted by shahbazhussain on (September 30, 2012, 21:08 GMT)

@Class-Apart, for your kind info, if Pak win and if India also win their next mathch. Pak will qualify. India has to follow the equation instead of Pakistan. So lets see who wins and what comes along. Aus is great side and they have just turned into an invincible wall just made by Pakistan who beat them very badly in recent series. So let us be straight. Pak cant handle indo-pak pressure games specially in world events that count. We admit it. Next. India has the same pressure when they face Australia. No need to become so excited. Pak has beaten the one who beaten Indian very hard. So be realistic. one game cant make India a real champ in this format. See their ups and downs in recent 10 matches. They are not consistent but Paksitan. They have lost only 2 matches in last 7 they have played so still they have a winning habbit that india lacks.

Posted by mazii on (September 30, 2012, 21:02 GMT)

It's a very funny game. A few hours earlier, Indian fans were bashing their team, and Pakistani fans doing the vice versa. Now, after these diatribes, even a man who have a hint of rationality would understand that, in T20, don't write any team off. Australia beat India and SA by a good margin, but it could be changed in the last match. I'm not saying as a Pakistan fan, but just for making things clear. Even now, any team can go through into the semis. Even SA has the chance to qualify. The team that will make 60 to 70 runs in the first six overs will have an advantage. My Indian brothers this group is wide open and anything can happen.

Posted by   on (September 30, 2012, 21:02 GMT)

If the two matches on Oct 2nd are rained out. Pak goes through. I wonder if Kohli knew that India would have been higher on NRR if they reached the target in the 4th ball of that 17th over

Cant understand why Yasir Arafat is in the Team ??? He cant bowl, cant bat but still Stick to team ! What a pitty to watch pak batsmen throwing their wickets to Non-redular bowlers. For sure, they dont deserve to be in Semi's. Will Imran Nazir play his last career match against Aussies ? And our MOST talneted Batsman Umar Akmal.....When he will socre ? rather than playing stupid shots always. Real disappointing batting from pak. Well played verat kohli and Sehwag.

IND Vs PAK is like Batting Vs Bowling and obviously batting has won.India should play more matches against Pak atleast to better the overall record of head to head stats(which is slightly better for Pak because of consistent victories in 90's).However happy that World Cup record stays.

Being Pakistani it is very frustrating , I can not explain my feelings at this moment. This so called full of talent team always let us down. It does not matter who coaches them , the result is big 0. How many times we do this by telling our selves that we need to forget about this and get this game out of our system. I say enough is enough we need team of professionals not just talented bunch of players who never ready for any game.

Posted by Stateside_Steve on (September 30, 2012, 20:42 GMT)

With this win India should get their confidence back and then some. Great to see Viru so into the game when India was fielding. He was pumped up in the slip when every wicket fell. India should now back themselves to give SA a good fight in the last match. If you look at it everyone over reacted to an extent after the Australia loss. Aussies did pretty much the same to the Saffas and I don't hear a peep from any one. I look at this way, India just got overpowered by the Aussies who are in fine nick now. In my opinion Australia has peaked a little early. The law of averages is going to catch up to them and superman Watson. I hope it happens in semi finals. India also will have the advantage of clearly knowing what they need to do when they face SA in the last match of the league stage. oh yeah, almost forgot Virat Kohli is SPECIAL, if he is English he would have been coronated as a modern era Bradman.

Indianfan76... dear your analysis is spot on. May the better team qualifies. Good luck to both In dia and Pakistan. But If Aus beat Pakistan and SA beat India by 20 to 30 runs ten they can qualify-provided that Australia beat Pakistan by four to five runs. And these all scenarios are possible. My gut feeling is saying that Australia wll beat Pakistan and then SA beats India and then the semi final race will decide on RR. India missed the trick here by not achieving the target in less then 16.4 overs. I don't know If that was plot by Hafeez to give the 17 over to Ajmal so that India's RR won't surpass that of Pakistan's. But this was not a plot, I think. This group as well other group is wise open. Cricket is a funny game, anything can happen. I want to see SA to qualify. I'm a Pakistani fan, but love to see SA and hopefully they won't choke again.

Posted by screamingeagle on (September 30, 2012, 20:34 GMT)

Would be nice if Pak lost to Aus and then India's match was rained off...... :P Jokes apart, I kind of like the back to the wall situation. After all, India has been pretty good in such situations in Asia cup and trination series in Aus. Was not playing the last match then and got pipped by SL and BD then. But they really did play well in the last matches there. Hope that continues here.

Posted by kumarcoolbuddy on (September 30, 2012, 20:32 GMT)

@Adsum9936, do you mean Pak was so bad to give all wickets in pressure? Probably pressure was part of the reason because playing blind shots in pressure is not guaranteed. Leave the result of the game but first of all Pak players needs to play shots by opening eyes.

Good victory. Great to watch Ajmal and Gul going wicketless. Only Raza surprized Indians a bit. But after the match I saw Ind A Vs Ind B match and boy, how great was Pujara. He scored 127 balls 158 runs notout. Like Kohli he is an awesome batsman with great temperament. Soon he should join the main squad of Indian team.

Who wud choose to bat first ??? With India being good at one thing only chasing targets , no team have won batting first ,,, and then go out there try to set up for a test innings , if one person can win a match one person can loose a match proven today , it just has to be an opener to build enough pressure for everybody around home to get out .

India should not experiment too much with our bowling. They must play with four bowler policy. There are 3 bowlers who are sensible and good. They are Ashwin - who is the best bowler in the country today, Irfan who certainly takes a wicket or two in the opening overs and Balaji who is very crafty with variations. My choice for the 4th bowler is Munaf patel or Amit Mishra. The fifth bowler can be shared between Yuvi, Raina, Kohli, Sehwag. At any cost Sehwag should not be dropped. Gambir is becoming very inconsistent. Murali Vijay can be tried for T 20. Similarly, Rohit Sharma is being given too many chances.

(I am A FAN OF WEST INDIES TEAM) 1 think i agree with Lankavigi about Sri Lanka, Australia, India and WI in the semi-final. These teams are playing very well; however, the ball is still round, better yet spherical, hence any team can win if luck greets them. even south Africa who is in the worst position can make a comback! i dont see England beating sri Lanka Tommarrow with Mendis=to Narine, Malinga + company under the might of their fan in their back yard. West Indies can beat Newzealand so Hopefully.....

Posted by Class-Apart on (September 30, 2012, 20:11 GMT)

if pak bat FIRST and beat aus by 26runs or more they will go through, regardless of ind vs sa match. OR pak need to achieve whatever target aus set inside 16 overs however based on todays showing it is a BIG IF

Congratulations India! Hard luck Pakistan! Despite this win, India may still not make it to the semis. Their next challenge is South Africa, who are also pretty much on the verge of elimination. They may end up spoiling the party for India. Surprisingly and unexpectedly, Australia are looking like the strongest team in this group. It would be interesting to see what happens when they play Pakistan. Good luck and may the best teams win. We need some entertainment. A very dull T20 World Cup so far.

This team combination is right for India. In spinning tracks they should bring in Harbhajan for Balaji. Otherwise, they are set.

Next match vs SA, who are also poor players of spin, Ind should drop Rohit or Raina & get Harbhajan in..only then they will have a chance..Bhajji can contain when Ash picks up wickets. We don't need extra Batsmen vs SA.& of-course Aus win over pak which is on the cards anyways due to their abysmal fielding.

Posted by   on (September 30, 2012, 20:02 GMT)

I agree with Ramiz comments. Its just some kind of psychological pressure of WC matches which pakistani players can't handle. Otherwise, in a normal venue they can't beat Pakistan. Their bowling is ridiculous and our players just gave away wickets only because of pressure.

Posted by ijayq on (September 30, 2012, 20:01 GMT)

pakistan 3rd class team you cant win matches with 1 batsman and 1 bowler there is no match between india and pakistan india's real competitors will be australia and south africa

Posted by   on (September 30, 2012, 19:59 GMT)

Although Pakistani team won the toss but made all the wrong choices for today's game such as playing Yasir Arafat again instead of experienced Razzaq, sending out of form Afridi at No.3 for bating (Failed experiment in an important game) and again sending Yasir for bating at No.8 instead of Umar Gul at a crucial stage of the game. On the other hand almost everything was going India's way as Jamshed was controversially given out by poor umpiring and then Kohli's inning of 85 runs with Pakistani players sloppy fielding including Imran Nazir dropping an easy catch making Pakistani bowlers job even harder. Pakistan's chances for staying in the tournament are looking pretty grim unless they can make few changes for next game.

CONGRATS INDIA. SAD LOSS FOR PAK BRO'S. Has dhoni missed the trick ? by not sending Raina to finishing the game quickly. what is the whole point in winning this game without a very big margin like finishing by 13/14 overs ? I will be gutted with Dhoni's captaincy if India doesnt get through Runrate. After winning the toss against Aus, he chose to bat frist and the wet ball hasnt helped spinners. All in all I am not very happy with Dhonis captaincy.I dont understand the anti and somewhat meaningless comments from Bangla fans and Lanka fans the other day who were never dominant against India nor didnt beat India in recent past.

Posted by   on (September 30, 2012, 19:54 GMT)

Pakistan really played bad cricket. They deserved to lose. Now the group is still open. I have a feeling that run rates will decide the teams fate. May the best teams go to the semi-finals.

Posted by   on (September 30, 2012, 19:52 GMT)

INDIA plz keep your head on your shoulders and perform to your potential against SA..... just add more effort in bowling and india will be on way to semis !!! it will be tough to beat the proteas, but they are under a lot of pressure so plz do not experiment and stick to the basics !!

I don,t think that Pakistan will ever be able to defeat India in a WC Match as now its not about game plan or its implementation; its a psychological barrier. Congrats to all Indian for amazing performance.

It was good performance by India and especially by Kohli. They kept their nerves. Pakistan could have done better had their main batsmen learnt lesson from their previos mistaks. Next match do or die situation both for indian sub-continet teams. i appreciate the one who performs on the given day. Good luck both the teams.

Posted by indiafan76 on (September 30, 2012, 19:41 GMT)

Here is the scenario for India to Qualify: 1) Aus win vs Pak: India can qualify by winning against SA or by loosing to SA by not more than 3 runs or with 1-2 balls to spare. This will keep them above SA in NRR (and above Pak also assuming Pak didn't loose by less than 2 runs) 2) Pak win vs Aus: India has to win against SA and have a better win compared to Pakistan's win by 1 ball or 2 runs.

Posted by intcamd on (September 30, 2012, 19:40 GMT)

A win against Pakistan is always meaningful. Still, after the atrocious display vs Australia, India continues to be on the back foot. If they can pull off a miracle against SA, they will be back in biz.

Ok, now i hope the extended Indian team do their home work on South Africa. Also, our batting has not quite clicked yet. Gambhir does well when he keeps the ball on the ground more. I am hoping to see Sharma bat in the next game.

Posted by indiafan76 on (September 30, 2012, 19:37 GMT)

Pretty ordinary performance from Pakistan. India should have accelerated sooner and won by a bigger margin. What is the point in keeping 8 wickets and not improving NRR given such an opportunity.

Posted by onebump on (September 30, 2012, 19:35 GMT)

Well played India. India deliver most of the time when they're under pressure during these ICC events. Better to have India than Pakistan in the semifinal. SL seem to find it harder to beat Pakistan at ICC events than India most of the time (exceptions such as wc final 2011 exist). . This is assuming SL qualify top of their group. Good tournament. Down to the last our matches to decide three semi finalists.

Our so called expert Shastri and Manjrekar wanted Yuvraj dropped. I do not know why they targeted Yuvi, as he has bowled better than spinners other than Ashwin. Today Yuvi answered back in style. The experts have still a long way to go before they are called that until they provide some substance to offer to their credibility. Yuvraj is a good player of pace and hope he continues coming after Kohli in the SA game.

Posted by sweetspot on (September 30, 2012, 19:30 GMT)

As expected, all the gushing is going on about Kohli, but the whole Indian team actually pulled together rather well. Kohli would not have had such an easy time had the bowlers not done their job exceptionally well, and Pakistani fielders hadn't put down the catches Kohli gave. Staying calm is India playing in the character of their captain. There are many Dhoni bashers these days, but like a lot of Indians, simply like to bash anybody who is immensely successful. This team is quietly assured in its ways precisely because of one bloke - MSD. Yuvi was in form today as was Ashwin.

Posted by EmeraldEye on (September 30, 2012, 19:29 GMT)

Good comeback for team India after an embarrassing loss to Aus , still a long way to go.

Posted by   on (September 30, 2012, 19:28 GMT)

Another pathetic batting performance by pakistan. Umar Gul cannot save them in every match.

There was a time when pakistan had world-class pace bowlers like Imran, Wasim, Waqar, Shoaib Akhtar, Asif and Aamir. Now we have Arafat/Tanvir as our second seamer!

serves PCB right for not picking Junaid and Wahab. Sami and bits and pieces cricketers Tanvir and Arafat should never have been selected

You need spcialists even in T20 cricket, genuine wicket-taking bowlers like Starc and Steyn. Razzaq ahould have played instead of Arafat.

Actually I see a pattern developing in world tournaments:

NZ may beat other teams but they struggle against Pakistan, England and Australia South Africa tend to struggle against Australia and Pakistan Despite playing well against other teams, Pakistan seem to have a mental block against India (and Australia) Sri Lanka may beat other teams but they usu. struggle against Pakistan India may beat Pakistan but they struggle against Australia.

First of all congratulations to India for playing well and holding their nerve after the beating they took in the last game. Can any Indian fan explain to me what kind of magic spell you have placed on Pakistan to cripple them in ICC tournaments against you ?. Pakistan cannot seem to buy a victory against India in world cup games, they looked very nervous when they came out. Hafeez missed a trick, I think he should have put India in to bat first, also a lot of things went India`s way in the field. As a Pakistan fan, All in all I am thoroughly upset and peeved by this Indian victory but not for the reasons you think, I wanted Pakistan to win the tournament having beaten all the best teams. Anyway Congrats again to India, well played.

Where are all my pakistani frnd's...Better team won, I think from last 7-8 years Indian team seems to have upper hand or mentally more prepared for the challenge..Kudos "Kohli" you are the rising star of world cricket..Don't have any weakness as batsman. As far as semi's are concerned both pakistan and India need to work really hard..pakistan is lucky to be in the tournament only coz SA "the chokers" choked against them the other day.

Posted by sachin_vvsfan on (September 30, 2012, 19:09 GMT)

I do not agree with the TITLE that says 'big victory'. We are still third in the table. we could have accelerated this a bit after sehwag's departure and finished it in 16 overs. Harsha said If we had finished it in 16.4 overs we would have been second in the group. If pak wins against AUS then it could be game over for us because we need to beat SA by better margin which looks unlikely.

Most of the PAK fans (except getsetgopk and wicky.roy)have been supporting us . Really surprised at the warm wishes. All the best to PAK, SA teams. May the best team win.

well played said in my comments after ind- aus match..india is not the side which turned out that day..its much better than that and today they showed their true would have been foolish to count out india on one match was simple they were the first to run into rampaging australia in this group...which may actually turn out good for them..still early days however...speaking of todays game however..the planning 11 was selected wisely..and i think sehwag responded well to responsibility enthrusted on him..although there is still lot can be expected from him..kohli as usual was simple brilliance...but what really turned the game in our favour was sensible bowling..irfan pathan has to bowl with new ball if we want him to deliver his best...overall a good performance and a confidence raiser for game to come....

Posted by Stark62 on (September 30, 2012, 19:06 GMT)

No point of watching Indo-Pak matches because we already know, Ind will win comfortably!!

Also, Pak got a lucky victory against SA, who are the easiest opponents in this group and they have NO CHANCE against the Aussies, after seeing that performance.

india would have won even without sehwag and zaheer. Anyway still anyone can get to semifinal. But india and south africa has advantage in that who ever wins they know how much rr required and win for india. SA has remote chance if they blow out INDIA

Posted by   on (September 30, 2012, 19:02 GMT)

Really poor stuff by Hafeez. He batted first knowing that indian strength is batting and they can chase 180 even. He mounted pressure on our batsman. Umar Akmal should play in top 4 as Wasim and Harsha said. Did not attack while bowling. No slips were present. Delayed Ajmal. Most importantly where is Razzaq ?

Posted by Nampally on (September 30, 2012, 19:00 GMT)

Congrats India for a fine win which still keeps alive the dream of reaching the last 4. Dhoni handled his bowling well for the first time + fine team work. Dhoni's problem is that he still does not understand ZAK & Irfan's limitations. Both these guys are new ball bowlers & start badly in first over before settling down. So Dhoni should bowl them their full quota of 4 overs in a single spell to cut down runs/over. Balaji can be used later if a seamer is required in death overs. Secondly bowling Kohli(@100 KPH) 3 overs was carrying things too far. He should have been stopped after 2 overs. If ZAK & Irfan(Regular bowlers) completed their 4 overs, it would not have required for Kohli to bowl 3 overs. Pakistan batsmen were too rash with their shots & duly paid penalty. Today's batting line up was fine with the exception of Rohit. In my opinion,Tiwary is more reliable & also provides a leg spin option. Balaji over Harbhajan was a good decision too. Good luck in the Crucial game vs. SA next.

Posted by Tit4Tat on (September 30, 2012, 19:00 GMT)

well i already had the feelings that pak wont be able to handle the pressure, and that exactly what happened. Congrats to my indian fellows to stay in the tournament so far.Anyways, tough match ahead with Aussies. I hope for the best for GREENS.

Did Pakistan forget how to bat?

Posted by cjscanada on (September 30, 2012, 18:58 GMT)

Thought as much India would win. Pakistan played with too much pressure. They are a much better team than what they displayed today. Somehow I hope, though it is not realistic, that India and Pakistan could qualify. SA could qualify and so can New Zealand. Just goes to show how fickle T20 is. A strong SA and English and a supposedly weak Australia and look who is in the driving seat. You just cannot predict anything. The West Indies have really performed under par. I hope they come alive. Good luck to all. Tomorrow and the day after four teams will bow out and it is good we still do not know who.

Posted by CandidIndian on (September 30, 2012, 18:57 GMT)

Consider this constructive criticism as i have immense respect for Pakistan cricket, but it was poor captaincy by Hafeez. Its simply because they had seen Indians struggling against Aussies batting first just couple of days back and still for some unknown reason he chose to bat first in difficult conditions.Over that he set defensive field and held back Ajmal for too long.Indians were down after thrashing by Aus hence Pak had the upper hand, they should have made most of it.

Posted by   on (September 30, 2012, 18:55 GMT)

Congratulations India !!! Now India has more chances to go to the Semi-Final, since Australia may beat Pakistan and India may beat South Africa. the only thing India needs is an attacking batting which they should do in their next match v S Africa.

Pak side was scared from unknown demons, captain was most of the lot, but indian shown good nerves, anyway good resistance shown by Shoaib Malik & Umer Akmal, side lacks match winners, it need more from Jamshaid, more from Ajmal, let Gul sit on the bench & bring Razak in, I dont know why Hafeez is not trusting on Razak, he is not going to give 15-20 runs in every over. He is decent bowler, in this format the economy will be on the higher side - its understood, but you cant deny the utility of Razak. Today it felt that teem was short of batsman, after six down, there was nobody who can get some quick runs. Had Razak palyed this match, it could have different senario. Captain take my advice, bring in Razak for next match & let Shoaib bowl 2-3 over. Guys step up for the occasion, you can do it, you had beaten Austrailia twice in similer kind of conditions. wish you best of luck.

Pak got exposed today as a poor team. I was really shocked at the capitulation. I think the fact is Pak, despite a decade of trying to shake the image, remain the same overhyped team that occasionally pulls off unlikely victories against class opposition. I do also think captaincy was unbelievably poor today - should have bowled first, then would have had a chance. As for India, they are still a one-man team that will get exposed by the more consistent teams. Any team that can get Kohli out cheaply will flatten them no problems. Both Ind and Pak are complete rubbish frankly when compared to Aus, SL, RSA and probably even England. And that is the most honest assessment I can give and any Indians who disagree are simply having temporary delusions of grandeur. India are poor, Pak are slightly worse.

poor batting by pak & poos selection of team, packed spiners when india plays spin well. need razak in some how. arfat's role is also questionable. umar gul looks like he is concentrating on his batting not bowling. India has good chance for semis as Beating an inform AUS with this type of batting and bowling will be problem for pakistan

Posted by Lets_talk_straight on (September 30, 2012, 18:47 GMT)

I feel sorry more for SL fans than Pak fans. I dont know why and how badly they wanted India losing the match. Probably fearing India in next stage matches. Guys wake up, lets watch it like a gracious supporter. especially in T20 anybody could win.Well played India, and congrats to all Indians and other supporters. Gud luck to pak as well. But it seems only one out of these two will go to semis in certain circumstances :)

Posted by khurramsch on (September 30, 2012, 18:46 GMT)

very poor from pak, no stratgy at all. wrong to bat 1st then packed 4 spinners knowing that india play spin well.then pathetic batting looked like they were playing a 5 over game. sending out of form afridi at 3 was not good move and he looked to hit everything.they need to get in razak somehow. arfat is doing nothing no bowling no batting, they can keep 4 spinners , simply you need more batsman in.

why pakistan can never make easily to playoffs?

It wasn't a warm up game :P

So can we give pakistan a chocker title against india in world cups? is anybody still comparing jamshed with inzy or anwar? I would love to see him batting like them but unfortunately i guess he is also one of these recent unpredictable and inconsistent pakistani batsmen. hope to see safiq coming in for Nazir and razzaq for arafat against australia in next game and pakistan wins it big margin to make it semi. seriously still trying to solve this puzzle of Arafat palying ahead of razzaq. I would even prefer azher mahmood or hammad azam over arafat.

Posted by Hardy1 on (September 30, 2012, 18:43 GMT)

Virat Kohli, probably the most complete batsman in world cricket right now. Needs to play a bit more outside the subcontinent but his form over the last year is unmatched, even by Hashim Amla.

that is india against pak........never mind the previous games ind will going to win wcup agian,..................cheers ind .............cheerss shewag too.............

Posted by coolindianfan on (September 30, 2012, 18:42 GMT)

3 cheers for india , i thought before the match that it would be an uphill task but it was in the end a comfortable win and india maintained their 100% record against pak (other then the icc knock out matches)

Posted by   on (September 30, 2012, 18:42 GMT)

Kohli is really turning out to be Mr. Dependable. Indian cricket has a great future star with them. Hope he continues doing this....

Posted by Hasnat-18 on (September 30, 2012, 18:41 GMT)

Pakistan are themselves to blame for this shameful defeat.Team selection is so poor that on batting surfaces their wickets are crumbling in each game. With this batting line up they can't win the title. On top of that so many drop catches in the field. At least they should change batting order and send Umar Akmal on No.3. Indian made sensible changes for this match and deserve this brilliant victory.Anyway positive aspect is that tornament is still alive for every team.Best for cricket.

Posted by   on (September 30, 2012, 18:40 GMT)

I think Virat Kohli is the new blaster ......he is transforming ....superb batting :)))))))))))))

Posted by Pandyan on (September 30, 2012, 18:40 GMT)

Great win for India and hope Dhoni again dont do any mistakes with the team selections and the combinations hope this time around we can atleast make it to the semis and then try our luck from then on. Mr Dhoni please have the same team for the next match and dont assume that South Africa cant play spin and include Chawla and Harbhajan then its end for India.

Posted by aiksa on (September 30, 2012, 18:40 GMT)

Another pathetic performance from Pakistan team and the Captain. They won thru a fluke performance against SA. They will certainly not qualify for semi-final and quite deservedly so. Hafeez is an extremely mediocre captain and an average batsman. All the batsmen of Pakistan combined can't match the genius of one Virat Kohli. Well done India for a very professional and convincing performance and maintaining your record of not losing any match against Pakistan in a world cup.

Posted by Legaleagle on (September 30, 2012, 18:39 GMT)

INCREDIBLE WIN!! India was a better team today- no doubt! Highly questionable selection of Umar Akmal and Shahid Afridi.

Posted by   on (September 30, 2012, 18:39 GMT)

We cannot and should not comment on skills of players, the difference here was strategic: Mistake 1 Choosing to bat....I was worried that Dhoni would do this sort of stupidity....thanks to his bad luck he did not get a chance. Mistake 2 Pakistan always bowl very badly to Sehwag....they bowl deliveries that should not be bowled its like you have 90 places to bowl but you still bowl all your bowls at 10 of those danger locations Mistake 3 Poor attitude....same as what India displayed in match versus the ausies....I gets its a subcontinental thing. Now please for your own sake don't go about blaming your players because it was not their fault actually, the strategy drawn up was not good....Also, playing that warm-up match helped India tremendously more than it did to Pak. I still feel that Pak has a much better chance of getting through but it would be crazy if SA advance instead....this might happen because India is following the trend of XOXOXO and Aussies are in great form.....

Posted by KartiG on (September 30, 2012, 18:39 GMT)

All those Dhoni haters.. This is what he can deliver you as a captain. See the difference in him and Hafeez.. 1. Getting in Balaji ahead of Harbajan 3 wickets( Dimissed Afridi early) 2. Excellent field placements 3. Rotation of Bowlers 4. Sharp chances taken behind the Stumps 5. Confidence shown in Yuvraj helping him perform..Every captain may have a off day but its him who takes all the burden in his shoulders.. Even SA got the same treatment from Aussies today does that ake them a bad team and AB a bad captain.. Grow up kids..

Posted by   on (September 30, 2012, 18:37 GMT)

The most disappointing dicisions by hafeez as good of a captain he was in last game he shouldve known better the team has no real batting lineup and we chose to bat first in this situation where anybody wouldve chose to field we had lost the match at toss!

Posted by ammar7may on (September 30, 2012, 18:37 GMT)

Junaid Khan is being missed a lot for being wicket taking pacer. No pressure exerted by Hafeez by keeping close fields; nevertheless, it was not possible against the openers (& Kohli) due to low number of runs on the board. Being calm paid to India, while being emotional took the most important match away from Pakistan. Time to gather thoughts, plan better, get calm, and stay there for 20 over by the top order. Pakistan now needs to plan better to take on Watson and Hussey, and that is only possible by extreme hard work. Nothing is impossible. Win awaits for the most skilled and professional. Let's be it. Well done Pakistan for even being failed today, and better luck for the next encounter against Australia.

Posted by mark2011 on (September 30, 2012, 18:37 GMT)

Pak got it wrong all when they decided to bat is surprised that they coudnt realise from the evidence in front of them from previous 2 matches that battiing first is difficult. this was simply a replay of Ind-Aus match played 2 days bfore,, and Pak is in the Indias shoes this time..Once again Virat going on droped catched agaisnt Afridi's bowlling... it was not Pak ur nights. try hard for next match...

Posted by Akshita29 on (September 30, 2012, 18:36 GMT)

Pakisthan should have looked at the other match and batted 2nd . I don't understand what professor was doing . Because of him everybody else was under pressure. Anyways I am happy that India won but would have loved to watch a more exciting match. Well done to Kohli and Yuvraj. Enjoyed the talk between Kp and Virat on cricket extra show . Thanks to star cricket too.

Posted by Crazy4cricket40 on (September 30, 2012, 18:36 GMT)

Kohli as usual excellent. as a pkistani fan, I was only scared of him and he did it again...well but some serious issues with this game for sure. somebody really wanted India to stay alive in this tournament. Why did Pak choose to bat first when we know India is a very good chaser specially agisnt us and also when we have been winning by chasing in this tournament. even the prev. game aus vs sa. sa scrummbled and aus chased easily. we had lights too as kohli mentioned. with little score what hafeez wanted to do with ajmal's three overs in the end.why he did not use himself and kept briinging afridi. any yes anybody on this earth can explain me what arafat is doing in the final 11 and whats his role? Why did we take abdur razzaq to srilanka?

Good win India...Now we don't have to get complacent for the next match and instead we should try to improve..A win againgst SA may see us through...Well done players..Hope for the best in the next match...!!

India Played defensively and won, this won't work same with SA,there bowlers are better and wicket taker. They need to do a rampage against SA in order to stand any chance

Pakistan should be ashamed of themselves. They had a hang dog look even before the match began. They couldn't break the familiar bogey. Even if they had lost after batting confidently it would have been no cause for shame. It is almost like Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal. They have become the butt of jokes from the Indian side. The comments in the newspapers are full of them. They seemed so resigned to their usual fate at India's hand. In the Asian Cup they were destroyed. India's well conceived plan worked perfectly here. You only had to listen to the comment made by Ashwin. "Afridi's wicket was well planned." The fact that they still might have a chance to progress is of no consequence. They failed when it mattered.

India played good cricket and they deserve the victory against lethargic Pakistan. Well, how quickly things changes in T20 cricket. Cricket is a funny game, isn't it. The team that was down and out played excellent cricket. Congrats India, you deserve the victory. I think Hafeez was just frozen against Indian bowler. Well, Mr.Hafiz that's not the way to handle pressure games. Your 28 balls 15 not going to hepl Pakistan's cause. I don't want to speak the decision of promoting Afridi up the order. Because there are many Ifs and but's after this match. But the better team wins at the end. Who knows what happens next, any team can go to the finals. Australia is already into the semis, so the race is between Pakistan and India. Indian just enjoy the victory, you deserve it. Better luck Pakistan for the next match against Australia and India too.

Woohoo! Knew Virat Kohli is gonna fire today. If Umar Akmal pouched that sharp catch, the match could have been interesting. However, the tournament is more interesting with India's win today.

Wonderful batting from Virat Kohli and a mediocre performance from the Indian bowlers!! It was an exciting match, and the real test for the both teams is on day after tomorrow when they both aspire for a must-win.. I want to hear from all India bashers who said India is eligible to play only Ireland. Will they say same thing about Pakistan today? This is T20 guys. Anything can happen in T20. Only reason that India-Australia match looked one-sided was that India could not take Watson out early. Pakistan had the same problem with Kohli today.

Posted by   on (September 30, 2012, 18:24 GMT)

India has psychological edge over Pakistan in the last 8-9 yrs just like Pak used to had over them in 90s. Hafeez made the worst ever decision by batting first. All the super8 matches have been won by batting second ..even a kid knows that chasing target is always better in 20-20 cricket. Congrats to India. Pakistan tournament is over here. Defeat against India will drop down our shoulders. Aus will thrash us as well now.

Where are those india bashers? with such great (so called) talents pakistan still get thrashed by an so called very ordinary (somtimes even called new miniows) INDIA. what is the use of having the most taleneted batsman of modern generation (comment about U AKMAL by W UNIS) if the side cannot score even 140? what is the point of having greatest bowling lineup in the world if you can take only two wickets? I am happy that we have a ordinary, below par team which at world cup stage beats their ARCH rivals.

Posted by Deekay0503 on (September 30, 2012, 18:23 GMT)

Same team for the next match; same strategy as well win toss field first, pathan's bowling is a bit of a concern against saf; for his 2nd spell if at all there is one dhoni has to come upto the stumps and not let batsmen use their feet against irfan; otherwise the team looks pretty strong

Posted by IamAnIndian on (September 30, 2012, 18:23 GMT)

Pakistan Seriously need to play qualifiers before world cups , not eligible to play with big teams.

The way they played and got out for part timers is horrible.

and Saeed Ajmal is not at all the best player in the world, he is like a GULLY bowler for indian batsman.

Posted by Ra_Thore on (September 30, 2012, 18:22 GMT)

In recent Indo-Pak games, I have been seeing Pak get intimidated by Indian batting line. Also, most of the Indian spinners kept their deliveries low that is something Pak captain should have noticed early on and passed it over to his bowlers.

Posted by cool2cool on (September 30, 2012, 18:22 GMT)

Even though overall Pak has dominated India, Pak is yet to win a single match against India in world cups after 8 attempts(5 in 50-50, 3 in T20).

Posted by   on (September 30, 2012, 18:21 GMT)

Poor captaincy (not to talk about his batting) from the hafeez did it for india, winning the toss and not asking to bat india was the point I sense victory of india, he put extra pressure on the batting, as india is good in chasing. The most important point is that batting in 2nd inning was relatively easier and bowling was tough. Batsman are equally responsible for giving wickets away especially after recovery stand.

Posted by   on (September 30, 2012, 18:21 GMT)

I don't know why people still say Pakistan have not won a world cup game against India . They won the game in the 2009 T20 world cup in England.

Posted by yakironi98 on (September 30, 2012, 18:20 GMT)

Pakistan cannot play against Indian under pressure. The batting is absolutely awful by any standards. Hafeez played the most ineffective knock of this tournament. India, on the other hand played like a team on a mission. Their fielding, bowling, batting were so clinical. Pakistan were dismal on the field and if they want to beat the Ozzies, they got to transform like India did as a team.

Can't wait for this tuesday, A lot of hearts will be broken and filled with joy that day!

congrats india for holding on that record on pakistan, they are loosers in world cup against them & now they will agaiin start counting there head to head victory & will console themselves, what actual is they should analysis there recent outings against india in the last decade & they will know the truth :-))))

Posted by cricketIsMyLife on (September 30, 2012, 18:18 GMT)

Absolutely ridiculous captaincy from Hafeez. Even a very mediocre cricket player can feel that u gotto attack if you got a little score, u gotto take wickets, not sure why Hafeez doesn't get this and if he doesn't, he does't deserve captaincy. Other thing i still don't understand is the Yasir Arafat role in the team, he bowls very bad and when it comes to batting, he cannot even get a single as he was batting in the last overs. If I compare him with Abdu-Razzaq, even Abdul-Razzaq is not in best of forms but he is a better player than Yasir, as we van trust him as match winner and he can certainly bowl as good as of Yasir if not worst than him, then why Mr.Captai n you are not Abdul-Razzaq, just cannot think of any reason. It's ok to lose but there has to be fight, u gotto play for win not for run rate, teams who think they will lose before the match never wins, very disappointed.....

Posted by Front-Foot-Lunge on (September 30, 2012, 18:18 GMT)

Two poor cricket teams played a below-average match. Both Ind & Pak don't have a lot to shout about these days anyway: One is a team which has a bowler whose bowling action is one most of the cricketing world refuse to accept, and the other (a once good team with one great batsman) slides, and have done for an age now, from one humiliation to another. Comedy cricket.

Brilliant win. Well done India. Perhaps you can send someone to the Protea's and teach our guys how to perform in crunch matches. Oh - thats right, you did already - you gave Gary Kirsten back to us and even he does not seem to be able to help us. Conclusion - it's the Saffa players, not the coach. The Indians will be really confident now and I am pretty much expecting them to steamroll the Proteas on Tuesday.

Pakistan deserve to loose and they did, a team cannot win world cup with so many good to nothing players (arafat, nazir, malik) ppl who criticize Misbah may know the importance of him as without him Pak is not even capable of surviving 20 overs

Posted by   on (September 30, 2012, 18:15 GMT)

bad decision by Hafeez to BAT on a bowling wicket. Enough said. We all knew what was going to happen as India has the strongest batting line up and they always seem to chase abt anything!

Posted by   on (September 30, 2012, 18:13 GMT)

rarely see a team choking as comprehensively in pressure as Pakistan batters did, even at 15-0 after first over they looked under pressure. Putting Afridi at 3 was also pressure move. Then gifted wickets to parttimers Kohli and Yuvraj, not special bowling just atrocious batting. With the ball defending 129 against India was never ever going to happen and Hafeez seemed to agree with that sentiment since he never really attacked defending 6 an over and let Indian batter take easy singles. Disciplined bowling and good mature batting from India, especially Kohli, and absolute rubbish batting and captaincy by Pakistan.

Posted by vipravara on (September 30, 2012, 18:13 GMT)

Owing much to the slowness of the wicket, Indian bowling redeemed itself for once to a much needed win today against least adaptive Pakistan. For the same reason, we might see the toss winning captains at Premadasa might feel tempted to field first. Interesting scenarios with the results of the final group matches for India & Pakistan.- a cricket lover from India

Posted by deardr on (September 30, 2012, 18:12 GMT)

it was a pathetic decision by Pakistan to bat first,in this tournament mostly teams winning by batting 2nd and I don't know what went wrong in Captain's mind to opt for batting first and then as usual collapse of batting and Pakistan managed only 128,it is very easy to chase this pathetic score especially with huge Indian batting line up and now even it will be difficult for Pakistan to reach Semi Final. Also I think Pakistan is not good in handling the pressure game.A big disappointment for Pakistani fans all over the world and Pakistan still have to win a match against India in the world cup and I don't know when this will happen????
