ICC World Twenty20 - 15th match, Group 2

Pakistan v South Africa

Pakistan won by 2 wickets (with 2 balls remaining)

And the national anthems are over. Hashim Amla and Richard Levi walk out to open South Africa's innings. Pakistan finish huddling on the outfield and Mohammad Hafeez has decided to open the bowling with left-arm spinner Raza Hasan.

3.15 pm "How's the pitch? Will the same pitch be used for Ind vs Aus later today?" asks Azam. Yes, it's the same pitch for both matches. At the moment, it's dry, hard and grass-less. Should be good for batting during the first game. Let's see how it holds up for the second.

"I think you are missing something here, Shoaib Malik can also bowl spin if required," says Kashif. So Pakistan have a fifth spinner, and South Africa can use Duminy as their third.

Ryan: "I feel Pak have missed a trick by not including some mega pace of Sami!! They already have four genuine spinners apart from Hasan. In official order - Ajmal, Afridi, Hafeez and Malik. They seriously could do with some mega pace against SA. Yes Sami might be expensive but could pick up some crucial wickets or at least scare the hell out of the batsmen. They could also employ Razzaq's services today as well. I think Hafeez has serious issues with Razzaq. Really glad Tanvir is dropped tho. Gul better fire well today."

Zain: "@ Ryan - Sami couldnt scare me if I was facing him, not sure how he is going to "scare" a team who get to practice with Steyn!"

Hugh: "Should be interesting. I'm picking a collapse of the South African top order."

Toss, 3.00 pm AB de Villiers calls heads and he's called correctly, South Africa are batting on a rather flat pitch. They have made one change from the team that beat Sri Lanka, the left-armer Robin Peterson replaces Faf du Plessis.

Hafeez says he is not fussed to be chasing today. Pakistan have also made a change, replacing left-arm seamer Sohail Tanvir with left-arm orthodox spinner Raza Hasan.

So lots of spin to come today - South Africa have two and Pakistan four. Over-rate shouldn't be an issue at all.

2.45 pm Here's the preview for the Pakistan-South Africa contest. Both these teams finished on top of their respective groups. Pakistan had two full games, whereas South Africa had the better of an S7 against Sri Lanka.

Speaking of Sri Lanka, they won a Super Over after tieing a game they should have won relatively comfortably against New Zealand. Andy Zaltzman says the Super Over is the future. Do not read while eating.

By the way, there's a large demonstration in Colombo today, so if you're heading to the Premadasa and want to get there on time, you shouldn't be reading this, unless it's on a hand-held device.

2.25 pm Good afternoon once again, and welcome to the first day of Super Eights action in Colombo, where the sun is shining, the weather is sweet. For the first game - Pakistan v South Africa - at least. The weather is expected to change for the worse by the time India and Australia take the field. There's been no cricket in Colombo for the last two days, and no rain either. But for now, the skies are blue.

Both matches will be played on the same pitch, which is said to be devoid of grass. For the first game, I'd say the team that wins the toss would prefer to bat. But if rain is expected for the second game, chasing might be the better option in the evening.

"Game day! Lets see what my iPods got to get me pumped!!!! #loudrock," says Dale Steyn on Twitter. "GETTING LOUD!!!!!!!!!"

AB de Villiers is a bit more mellow: "It's the start of the Super 8's for us today and a big one against Pakistan. Thanks for all the support and well wishes from back home."

5.00 pm South Africa finish with 133 for 6, which is quite below par on this surface. They were simply unable to score off Pakistan's spinners and the innings stagnated before AB de Villiers and Duminy gave it some direction. I'd say Pakistan are favourites, if their batsmen turn up today. South Africa don't have as many spinners as Pakistan did, but they will come out hard and fast at the batsmen.

Kanishkaa will take up the commentary for the chase.

End of over 20 (9 runs) South Africa 133/6
JA Morkel    9* (6b 1x4)      Umar Gul    2-0-19-1
RJ Peterson    3* (4b)      Yasir Arafat    3-0-25-2
