Callum Thorp is a right-arm seamer who was born in Perth but established his professional career in England. After two fruitful seasons with Western Australia, he signed with Durham in 2004, but not as an overseas player - both his parents are British.

Thorp played age-group cricket for his state, being picked for a Western Australia side against an England XI on their 2002-03 tour there and taking 4 for 58 before spending time at the Commonwealth Bank Cricket Academy in 2003, honing his skills as a fast-medium bowler.

He has provided valuable options for Durham when they've needed to cover for the absence of Steve Harmison and later Liam Plunkett with England, but has also emerged as a quality performer in his own right. He produced the bowling performance of his career to help Durham clinch their first ever County Championship title in 2008, taking 7 for 88 to seal a thumping innings-and-71-run victory over Kent at Canterbury.

Thorp enjoyed another solid season in 2009. He was largely sidelined the following year but established himself as consistent member of the Durham attack in 2011 aand 2012, taking more than forty wickets in each season.
