Border-Gavaskar Trophy - 2nd Test

India v Australia

India won by an innings and 135 runs

Overs 1-50  | Overs 51-100

Bhuvneshwar Kumar to bowl to David Warner. Two slips, gully

"So we rest players to avoid injuries, yet we play them when they are injured. Is that insane to anyone else." I get what you are feeling, David.

9.25 am Five minutes to go for the start. Of course, you are Interested in winning a copy of Timeless Steel for free. Caption this picture featuring Brett Lee and Virender Sehwag - a collection of great essays on Rahul Dravid could be yours.

9.20 am The Hyderabad heat will sting. There is no sea around, there is much less humidity, but there is also that dry, scorching heat that makes you think you would have been better off not to have bought a seat in the open stands at the Uppal Stadium.

9 am Australia win the toss and will have a bat

Michael Clarke: "It feels harder than Chennai. Still spin will play a big part. Might see a bit up-and-down from the fast bowlers, as it will deteriorate as the game goes on." Nathan Lyon and Mitchell Starc are out. Xavier Doherty and Glen Maxwell are in. So Wade plays, with a broken cheekbone

MS Dhoni: "Looks like a different track, quite different from Chennai. Important we start well with the new ball. Will be a bit more pace and bounce. Reverse swing will play a role, as it looks on the drier side." India are unchanged, Pragyan Ojha, India's best current spinner for many, sits out again, this time on his home ground. If you are MS Dhoni, one way you could justify this is - Ojha gives you control, so does Jadeja, who can bat and field better. With Ashwin and Harbhajan in the side already, I might not exactly need Ojha to run through sides. As an aside, I fail to understand how Harbhajan still makes it to the side, barring the fact that Australia have so many left-handers. But is that reason enough to play an offspinner who is clearly off-colour?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Mark: "Right now you'd think the Indians would be sending a thank-you card and chocolates to the Australian selectors. Also it's hard to see how Wade's keeping and batting will not suffer as a result of the injury. If he doesn't last the match there should be some hard questions asked."

Rob: "So the Aussie batting fails in the first Test and Lyon gets the chop? Gobsmacked." I think he bowled with a lot of heart in Chennai. Kept tossing it up largely despite the Indians going after him

Max: "Time will tell, but this looks to be a real error in judgement in regards to the Australian selection. Lyon's confidence will be shot now, he showed enough in the second innings to be given another chance here. I guess the reasoning was that with Maxwell coming in, the two are relatively like-for-like (right arm offies both) but the fact is Doherty is a far inferior spinner to Lyon, left-armed or not. If any of the Indian top order get going, it's going to be extremely hard to bowl them out twice with this line-up."

8.55 am Glen Maxwell will make his Test debut. He was handed his baggy green by Matthew Hayden a while back. Matthew Wade suffered a fracture of the cheekbone in practice yesterday. If he sits out, Phil Hughes will keep wicket. Though, how you arrive for a four-Test tour without a back-up specialist keeper beats me completely.

Here is the preview for the game. Toss minutes away.

8.50 am Dry pitch, lots of cracks, some grass holding it together. 'Bat-first wicket', says Ravi Shastri. Something in it for the fast bowlers as well, feels Alan Border. It does not remotely have the 'ugly' Chennai look to it, but then, both captains said Chennai played better than it looked. So we'll find out.

8.40 am We move from Chennai to Hyderabad, but expect spin to dominate again. It is becoming, to some, a disturbingly consistent feature of Indian Test pitches, the overwhelming assistance to spin. Australia lost all 20 wickets to spin in Chennai, and there are concerns we could be seeing a return to the 90s, when India won everything at home on dry surfaces and won nothing abroad. If you ask me, more than anything else, this Indian team needs some confidence-boosting wins. Developing balanced, or sporting, whatever you call it, tracks at home, can wait for some time. As long as they are sporting in Ranji Trophy and Duleep Trophy, which is admittedly a big ask in itself ...

Steve: "Strange balance to the Aussie side - 4 opening batsmen, 4 all rounders (one who is exiled from bowling), and injured keeper, a pace spearhead who might break down and a spinner who was not good enough to play on a clay court pitch. Are they playing for a draw?"

This pitch was expected to have more for the fast bowlers compared to Chennai, and that is evident from the first session. Bhuvneshwar went wicketless in his debut Test, he's taken three in a session now. There's been swing, seam, largely true bounce, and not too much turn. Mostly up to Clarke again for Australia

#Thingstododuringthelunchinterval - Not happy with the selected XIs? Head here to decide who gets to play, albeit in Fantasy-land.

Bradon: "On the TV, they are asking: Should Clarke bat at 3, 4 or 5? The best plan of course would be 3, 4, AND 5. Pretty sure there's a law against that though."
