At a time when TV reality shows were impossible to avoid, it was almost inevitable that in India one would emerge connected with cricket. Sure enough, in 2006-07 Cricket Star was launched and run in Mumbai, and from 25,000 applicants, Sukhvir Singh emerged as the winner. His prize was a summer at Leicestershire.
Singh, who comes from a small village near Mohali, is a right-arm fast bowler who gave up college to take part in the series. Although he would not be able to play first-team cricket for the county, he would play for the second team as well as league matches for a local club.
