Profile

Born in Meerut, Umang Sharma is a right-handed batsman and occasional offspinner, who plays for Uttar Pradesh and has also represented them at the U-19 and U-22 levels. After his debut in 2012, Umang didn't score a century for almost three years in any form of the game till his 215 against Baroda in the Ranji Trophy in December 2015. His breakthrough domestic season came in 2015-16 as he scored 1013 runs in 21 matches in all formats. Despite having a lean T20 record leading up to the 2016 IPL auction - with an average of 17.93 in 23 games - he was picked up by Gujarat Lions for his base price of INR 10 lakhs (15000 USD) in the second round of bidding.
