Deccan Chargers v Pune Warriors, IPL 2012, Cuttack May 1, 2012

Deccan complete double over Pune

  shares 104

Deccan Chargers 186 for 4 (Sangakkara 82, White 74) beat Pune Warriors 173 for 5 (Smith 47*, Ganguly 45) by 13 runs
Scorecard and ball-by-ball details

Pune Warriors succumbed to the tournament's whipping boys, Deccan Chargers, batting them out of the match for the second time in less than a week. It wasn't a flawless win for the Chargers' though, as their ground fielding and catching continued to look sloppy. Their saviour was an explosive stand of 157 between the two experienced hands - Cameron White and Kumar Sangakkara - which took them to 186. The Warriors slumped to their third consecutive loss and remained third from bottom in the points table.

The Chargers won the toss but got off to a poor start when they lost Parthiv Patel first ball, dragging Marlon Samuels onto his off stump.

The pressure increased on the inconsistent White and out-of-form Sangakkara, who brought himself back after sitting out the last match. The first ten overs was a slow and steady build for the Chargers, who struggled to get the run-rate above six.

Sangakkara didn't look convincing at the start, playing and missing and also getting an under-edge off a drive. Chargers managed only five boundaries in the first nine overs, before a straight six by White off Murali Kartik in the tenth over gave the Warriors a sign of things to come.

It was as if the Chargers began on a fresh slate. The run-rate began creeping over six after the 12th over, the point from which Chargers took control. The 15th over was Sangakkara's turning point in this tournament as he smashed four boundaries off Samuels. He lofted inside out over extra cover, edged to third man, smashed one over the bowler's head and swept past short fine leg.

Sangakkara brought up his fifty the following over with a chip to short fine leg after which he pumped his fists. Sourav Ganguly, who had conceded 15 off two overs, brought himself back on to stem the runs but it turned out to be a tactical blunder as his meaty offerings cost the Warriors 25 runs. White slogged three consecutive sixes over the on side before clipping one to fine leg for four, in the process outscoring Sangakkara.

Sangakkara then took on Nehra, showing the confidence to innovate by shuffling at the crease and fetching four boundaries, including two sixes. Attempted yorkers turned into friendly full tosses, which Sangakkara pounded over the leg side. Chargers ransacked 50 off two overs before the pair fell off successive deliveries. They smashed 95 off the last six overs and gave themselves a shot at beating the Warriors for the second time.

The Warriors too dubiously lost a wicket off the first ball of the innings - the first such occurance in the IPL. After Manish Pandey tamely chipped Ankit Sharma to mid-on, Ganguly walked in, ahead of Steve Smith, as if taking a cue from the Chargers to have two experienced players in the face of a big task.

The start was still encouraging for the Warriors as Ganguly and Clarke unsettled Dale Steyn, hammering 17 off his second over. Ganguly fetched a four over cover at the start, before Clarke fetched three consecutive fours consisting of a flick and two cuts square on the off side. The bowler who had figures of 2 for 10 in four overs against Mumbai Indians a few nights back, ended with figures 4-0-46-0.

Ganguly took charge against the spinners and as the partnership mounted, aided by a couple of dropped catches off Ganguly's bat - honours were even. A top edge by Clarke was spilled by Shikhar Dhawan at point, but to his luck, the batsmen risked a second run and an alert Amit Mishra gathered the ball and fired it to the wicketkeeper with Clarke a yard short of his crease.

Dhawan made amends the following over when Ganguly scooped one straight to cover. Embarrassed at falling to a part-timer, a peeved Ganguly walked back, flinging his bat and gloves as he headed to the dug-out. Robin Uthappa and Smith added 62, but their efforts could only get them close to the target. The Chargers toasted their second win, but left their coaching staff with plenty of headaches over the fielding.

I am not anti-Ganguly, but you have to admit that he failed to accelerate and failed to win the match. Here is a top set of Batsmen: Ganguly, Kallis, Tendulkar, Dravid, LRPL Taylor Would you like that team for your T20 match? How about this set: Sehwag, Gayle, SPD Smith, Pieterson, De Villiers? The first team would be absolutely thrashed due to their poor strike rates. The 2nd team would win by 50 runs or more, assuming facing equal bowling attacks.

T20 is all about bowlers who don't leak runs and cause batsmen to get themselves out in frustration, and about batsmen who can smash the ball.

Some of my first mentioned team should retire from T20. They just aren't worth what they are paid and rated. Maybe keep Dravid. Kallis belongs in test matches, not T20.

The ICC Rankings needs a big shakeup to understand the importance of run scoring rates. The T20 batting rankings are a joke surely.

No doubt our dada (Ganguly) is a world-class leader but he should bat down the order and let Smith and Uthappa come early to play accordingly. His slow batting is not helping Pune in anyway. He (Ganguly) and the team management should have realised this by now! Yesterday, Pune lost only because of Dada's slow batting!!!

Guys Most of you assume yourself as 'circket genius, than DADA as post a blind comments , first you should know DADA given only 14 runs in his previous 2 overs that confident is made him to bowl 18th over & LUKE WRIGHT was already in his Home to attend his Uncle's funeral. First improve your Cric Knowledge & come here to post comments. How dare you give comments on such a legend DADA?

  • POSTED BY on | May 2, 2012, 11:33 GMT

Dada was a g8 player and g8 captain, but these days he is behaving madly on the field. He is clearly favoring few players eg. samuals,nehra,robin.rahul. This Nehra is completely waste of time. I can bet that if Nehra was not playing last match and the match against Rcb, Pwi Would have won two matches for sure. What a faltu bowling by so called international bowler.Robin uttapa is waste. Steve smith is fabulous ,i think Pune didn't use him properly. Marlan samual is also a very bad player. I think this years IPL is almost over for Pune . But next year they can appoint dada as a coach not as a player. And bring some good Indian talent. Pune should retain smith because he is fab one. Thomas, Parnell are good bloke too. When your main fast bowler gives almost 50 runs in 2 overs no way you can win a match.Guess who is that main bowler....not a difficult one Mr Nehra.

IT IS UNFAIR THAT EVERYONE CRITICIZING DADA. IN MY OPINION HE SHOULD OPEN FOR PUNE. AS LONG AS HE STAYS AT THE CREASE IT IS EASY WIN FOR RIVAL TEAM. HIS SELFISHNESS, EGO, INABILITY, STUPIDITY...... BIG BOON FOR OPPOSITE TEAMS.

I DON'T AGREE WITH THE TERM "DADA IS A GOOD CAPTAIN. MAY BE HE IS A LUCKY CAPTAIN BUT NOT A GOOD CAPTAIN. THERE IS A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A GOOD CAPTAIN AND A LUCKY CAPTAIN. HE HAD ALWAYS BEEN A LUCKY CAPTAIN, BUT NEVER BEEN A GOOD CAPTAIN.

IN MY OPINION, DHONI IS A GOOD AND BRAVE CAPTAIN. HE HAS THE ABILITY TO MOTIVATE HIS TEAM AND BOUNCE BACK. HE HAS PROVED IT EVERY TIME.

I agree that dada bowling ahead of murali karthik was a tactical fiasco. Everything went wrong yesterday. He was slow with the bat too. And to those who all are saying about Ryder being dropped,he was never dropped,he was unwell (source : television commentary)and had to be left out.Luke wright would had his chance after his first match,But he is back in England to attend a relatives funeral (source : cricinfo) . Both of them will be back soon. I being a dada fan, desperately hope he proves all his critics wrong and Pune qualify for the playoffs.

DC must improve thier fielding to keep winning matches from now on. Their batting form should continue like wat they did against PWI. If they can win next 3 games on a row, the tables will trun around and make IPL5 more wide open for top 4 slots.. Apart frm DD(1 win in 6 games) & KKR(2 frm 6 games), all other teams have chances to make it into top 4... CSK,Kings XI,PWI,RR,RCB needs 4 wins each(in 6-7 games left) and DC needs 6 more wins in 7 games left. Tough for DC but cant rule out it too... IPL4- DC won last 4 games in row, IPL3- DC won last 5 games in row and made it to semis... IPL2- DC won 3 of last 4 games to make it into semis... Want such a turn around now from DC....

  • POSTED BY on | May 2, 2012, 10:58 GMT

DC's double win vs PWI shows it is capable of winning. few harsh calls by umpires against DC this match too. A no ball called for height( dropped by Ankit sharma) was below waist of Uthappa atleast by a feet. Fielding should improve from Deccan surely to win more matches. If it goes on winning next 2 games, CSK,KXIP might come behind DC in the table. Superb batting from Sanga& White tough they started slowly, ended up well. Ashish is coming good, also PV Singh can be handy with the ball with little guidance frm Sanga & Steyn. If fielders improve by 10% in thier performance, DC can beat any side from now. Keep going Chargers. I wish to see you in winning ways from now.

Request to Chargers Team management- Please get some good bowlers and handy allrounders atleast in next auction, pls dnt transfer dhawan, white, steyn, ashish, parthiv for god's sake. they r perfrming really gud.

Ahhh...What a performance by Dada... PWI would have won the match if Sourav got out 1 to 2 over before he actually got out (in 12.4 over)........ Steve Smith performed really well. Please put Luke Wright in for any other overseas player. only one player should play the match Clarke or captain himself. This is T20 not ODI. Tamim is also a better choice.

  • POSTED BY on | May 2, 2012, 9:26 GMT

Quite a few strong, but valid comments about Sourav. He shouldn't have bowled the 16th over giving away 25 runs. And as a batsman, he was never the one who could hit ata strike rate of 150-160 - Have Uthappa along with Clarke with Samuels one down. Sourav should be going down the order. You could still make a good captain by making the right moves on teh field. I think Sourav should realise that being a captain does not neessarily mean opening the bowling and be one down for batting.

  • POSTED BY soumyas on | May 2, 2012, 9:25 GMT

@Seneka, Ganguly himself is a big humiliation to the team, he eats up half of the balls and scores very slow, he comes to bowl ahead of better bowlers and gets hit all over the park, he is sluggish on the ground and makes lot of miss fields. his over confidence on Nehra always proved him wrong. On top of all his false EGO doesn't let batsmen like smith come ahead of him to score quickly...just forget abt Uthappa, Samuels, Nehra.... they have done the decent job.

  • POSTED BY on | May 2, 2012, 9:21 GMT

Ganguly did the first mistake when he mistakenly has given 14 th or 15 th over to wayne parnell, he misse3d his count or thought he needed a wicket at that time(which did not happen) and hence he was short of a good bowler to bowl the 18 th over, agree murali karthik has overs up his sleeve but in his previous over murali karthik was hit for a six by cameron white, may be this is what has prompted ganguly to bowl on himself (i consider this a daring act as if things go wrong he would be under scrutiny and that is what has happened)...........i also feel for players like callum ferguson and luke wright who dont get oppertunity in this team, may be time for luke wright to open ,samuels was only in the team as he could bowl some overs of tidy spin (he did so in the first spell during powerplay)...what i feel is absense of DINDA is hurting the team a lot.......leave sourav ganguly who is a part timer, if a main line bowler like nehra bowl full tosses in the 19 th over to set bmen ,god save

  • POSTED BY soumyas on | May 2, 2012, 9:19 GMT

steve smith faced only 27 balls and scored 47 at Strike Rate of 174.0, with same rate had he faced 7 more deliveries PWI cud have scored those 13 runs to register win. Now the question arises why didn't he bat little up in the order ? or cud have come earlier, shows how selfishly ganguly spoils his talented overseas players. its gud for him to sit out of match and just become the coach. on the other hand look at dravid, in the middle of innings if he thinks they have batsmen who can score quick runs than himself, for the sake of team he sacrifices his own wicket.

  • POSTED BY Philip_Gnana on | May 2, 2012, 9:08 GMT

Are there not any good Indian players in DC's team? We see the other teams having some good talent. It is a waste of batsmen when Sanga can keep wickets. Drop Parthiv Patel and bring in another youngster in place and they will do well. The coach makes the call as he is the team manager too. Patel to sit out the next game? White and Sanga seem to have built a bond. Any form of disunity must be dealt with by the Coach. DC cannot get a side out with this bowling attack. Asking Steyn to perform 100% all the time is too much. Where are the back up bowlers? Who did the buying of the players? The captain and coach can only be good as the team. Looks like DC have been scrounging on their spend. Philip Gnana, Surrey

  • POSTED BY harish247 on | May 2, 2012, 7:16 GMT

only four people cannot perform in every match. Deccan have to find indian talent. And they have to improve fielding. They are fielding like gully cricketers. Deccan losing because of fielding.

  • POSTED BY Robin-Hood on | May 2, 2012, 6:57 GMT

I think DC is a divided with C/White and Sangarkar. Pathiv Patel and C/White one side and Sangarkar and few Indian players other side. You can clearly see White's and Sangkars's body language when they are in the middle. I haven't seen any of the modern players shaking hand when they scored a four or six, but these two do, coz they have a big gap between them. You can clearly see from Pathiv Patel that he's not agrees with Sangakar's decisions. Still they not playing as a unity. I think Sangaka'rs getting less support from other players.

Please just mentor the team..Hand over captaincy to Micheal and play behind the screens... Without you KKR has done well and how !!!!! PWSame mistakes with KKR being repeated...Poor team selection and slow batting.....What has Mithun manhas done to justify his place in PWI in all the matches he played so far...Even Nagar of Delhi has played some good cameos in the same batting position...PWI management act fast before its late...You have got the team to make it to play-off ..just wrong selection...

  • POSTED BY PerfectTen on | May 2, 2012, 5:53 GMT

With every match, Ganguly is becoming more & more comical. When things were going decently well enough, instead of trusting his more skillful bowlers, he brings himself on, hoping to cash in on DC's desperate batsmen. Instead, gives away 25 runs and with it, the much required momentum to the opposition. As if that blunder was not enough, walks in one-down. For once, I thought the DC fielders dropped him twice on purpose! Even the umpires conspired against PWI by not ruling him out a couple of times. SRK saved Team KKR by not picking him up a couple of seasons earlier and that has proved to be a great disinvestment strategy! Dada, if you want to be remembered for your golden period, retire immediately from ALL forms of the game.

  • POSTED BY soumyas on | May 2, 2012, 5:51 GMT

    1) ganguly's false ego made him to bowl 25 runs over even though they had few overs left from better bowlers, 2) failed captaincy to give death over to nehra which went 25 runs again, already 100 times we have seen nehra going for 20 plus runs in death overs. 3) ganguly shud have scored those 40 runs from 20 odd balls, he wasted nearly 20 balls. which really cost them the match.

Please be aware all team DC can give you sock any time..they have nothing to loose..

i think the possible pune 11 should be luke wright......manish pandey.....ganguly.......steve smith.......clarke........ uthappa....... mithun manhas....bhubaneswar kumar........murali karthik......alfonso tomas.......ashoke dinda(if fit)............. luke wright is one of destructive openers and given a chance samuels is a complete failure luke wright can also bowl probably if ryder is unfit then play with tamim probably uthappa should open in place of pandey .......mohnish mishra given a chance pune should restrict any team to 150 to 160 if theyhave a chance to win.... so they should always play a bowler specialist either wayne or thomas pandey should be vanished immediately or play down the order...........at least the best openers or players must be given a chance

  • POSTED BY on | May 2, 2012, 5:02 GMT

I agree with the idea Sourav going further down the order, may be at no. 5 or 6 bcoz he is slowing down the pace of scoring runs. Ryder should not have been left out yesterday, and Clarke should have replaced Merlon Samuels in the team whose batting is awful. Smith should come 1 down, followed by Uthappa (who too is not in prime form). Sourav is not a liability in the team as commented by somebody I see bcoz without his captaincy PWI would not have come this far with this scrap team. Also absence of Dinda is hurting them badly. But not loose hope and PWI should fight till the end, they have come this far with due to their grit and unity. All the best guys.

  • POSTED BY Seneka on | May 2, 2012, 4:58 GMT

Dear Ganguly, you should understand that the team selection and your reliance on wrong players like Uthappa, Nehra and Samuels make your team lose all these matches. How could you allow Samuels to play and keep Luke waiting? Who's a better hard-hitter, don't you know that? And Uthappa cannot produce big hits, still why he has to be sent at number four or number five during the crucial stages when only big hits are necessary? Really disgusting decisions, and we can hardly expect this from a team led by an extra-ordinary captain like you. Pune will lose rest of the matches as well and you will embrace sheer humiliation if players like Uthappa, Samuels, Nehra continue to play for Pune. Still, the team has a chance if they can win rest of their matches; please try hard and try sensibly.

PWI was in the game until the 17th over when Ganguly decided to bowl - that was the turning point along with another outrageous last over by nehra - nehra should be either dropped or not allowed to bowl the death overs - he has contributed to two losses for PWI now because of his death bowling - there is no point blaming Ganguly's batting or that of any other PWI batsmen, chasing 186 is always tough

  • POSTED BY on | May 2, 2012, 3:56 GMT

Guys, please understand.. bringing in tamim is not such a easy decision to make. How could you think bring tamin inside leaving ganguly out.. have you guys forgot IPL rules. If you wish to bring tamim inside you need to take one overseas player out not ganguly. he didnt consume 60 balls to hit 45. If you guys feel ganguly wasted the balls. What did uthappa do in the final overs? There is no one to say ganguly to retire. He is still one among the best cricketer. What the hell pune did last year with all the best hitting batsmen in team? Manish Pandy was out first ball duck. but you guys want him to open the batting still. He still has plans on his own. ganguly plans are not present oriented,he thinks of the future. i still beleive ganguly wont let PWI down. I too have my own considerations of the team but i am not captain of PWI or i am not even 1% of ganguly to say my advices wrt cricket. All Ganguly-haters, please pause for a moment and look at the table above the comments. The first six overs produced 48 runs from Clarke-Ganguly and the last 6 overs also produced 48 runs.... Do I have to spell out?

If Ganguly made one tactical error it could be letting Smith or Clarke bowl... but that is an afterthought.

i dnt get da fact why dada shud not be in da side as he is a good captain. im a bangladeshi and want to see tamim play at some stage but dada has got to be dere. i think he played the shot of the night by a distance when he drove steyn.. n im sure in his heyday a lot of people hav heard dose commentators say dat in the offside, first there is God, and then there is Sourav Ganguly. This might well be his last year or maybe one more.. i jus wanna see Ganguly hit one cover drive thru the offside every time he plays.

Good job Mr Ganguli, 40 years old boy. Time to find exit with honor. Hand it over to Tamim, he will score fast 50 to put your team in good position. You are a liability now.

Since Ryder is injured, Pune should have started with another original openning batsman, and the obvious replacement in the team is Tamim Iqbal. And talking of scoring fast at the top of the innings, Either a regular aggressive opener or a really effective pinch hitter is the answer, not Michael Clarke or Saurav Ganguly. Smith, Clarke, maybe even Samuels are better finishers of the game. Pune can gamble with Tamim once to see if he fires, and Saurav should try to avoid batting as much as possible and go down the order. Bowling for Pune is a major concern, Alfonso Thomas being the one consistent bowler apart drom Dinda( injured ) and Murali Karthik ( not a certainty in the playing xI i don't know why ) . They should always be in the team. A balanced team for Pune could have been Pandey Tamim Uthappa Clarke Smith Manhas Ganguly Alfonso Karthik Sharma Dinda

  • POSTED BY British-Bangali on | May 1, 2012, 22:37 GMT

In my opinion Pune have a very well balanced team they just need Yuvi back and kick out Old timer DADA out he should retire from all form of cricket enjoy retirement and go watch Gambir at your home town as a supporter. Sorry to be rude but it's the truth.

  • POSTED BY Masud_BITK on | May 1, 2012, 21:20 GMT

Actually, I don't blame Ganguly here as they have very limited resources. As I said, Ganguly and Clarke can make close but can't win on any high score (170 Plus). It is therefore they have to make sure that they are resctricted any team below 150 runs. Ganguly should be clever enough to offer Tamim or Luke to bat and see how they go. As per palyers profile, Pune should be top 3 team from the bottom in this IPL and no matter how Ganguly tries.

  • POSTED BY JG2704 on | May 1, 2012, 21:04 GMT

Is Alf Thomas injured or is it just great selection by Ganguly leaving him out? If the latter send him back to Somerset - we appreciate him eveen if others are too dumb to.

  • POSTED BY kryon on | May 1, 2012, 21:01 GMT

now lets nt talk abt why Tamim was ignored again.Bangladeshis shud really start to care abt their lives and Domestic cricket thn two players not getting proper chances to show their "Talent". If you are only interested in Tamim and Shakib thn you shud try to ignore IPL and concentrate on wht sort of first class cricket we saw in Bangladesh last week where the 5 day final ended in 2.5 days.however I really cannot find any cricketing logic of Dropping Ryder and getting in a very jet lagged Michael Clark no matter hw much in form he is in.All the new Aussie arrivals have failed.that is they are yet to acclimatize with the Indian pitches.

I truly appreciate DC team today the way they played to win the match. agree the field lapses still continue - lucky they did not cost anything. I am glad for Sanga who dropped himself, came on this match and performed well. It should do good for his confidence and the team too. C white, good to see him score well.. Though I dont expect much wonders from this team, I wish they fight and field well. I remember Zimbabwe was a weak team but but they always fielded well.. To catch a ball, u dont need to be a bowler like steyn or batsman like Sehwag !!! just a decent fielder. alright - so whats up with local lads, as none of them performed on atleast one of the occassions, why not rotate with bench and if some thing good can be found. After all they are in the team coz they are players, its fair they get a chance. Well done DC. One word of caution - dont trade white next season if he performs well in the next few matches.

  • POSTED BY Unmesh_cric on | May 1, 2012, 20:29 GMT

For some reason, Uthappa does not seem to be very confident this season, especially when playing big shots. He missed out on a couple of full-tosses today. Between overs 6 to 10, Ganguly should have taken on the spinners. But today he was reluctant to go down the track to the spinners. Still, all is not lost yet for PWI. They still have a chance. If Ryder and Dinda are fit for the remaining games, they can win a few games on the trot.

  • POSTED BY on | May 1, 2012, 20:21 GMT

Pune missing a good wk ,ibrahim khaleel was an option but the management not aware about this i think and they should give chance to ali murtaza and monish mishra. Cullam fergusan deserves more chance and they can try thamim also.

Not sure why they dropped Ryder in favor of Clarke. Clarke has infact retired from International 20-20 as he was struggling to put bat on ball.

  • POSTED BY on | May 1, 2012, 19:16 GMT

Sanga returns.....what an innings, DC was too sloppy in their fielding perspective. PWI have to pick up right bowling combination if they want to win against other teams, coz as far as it stands DC was less strong than others, but they lost to them on both occasion.

  • POSTED BY Sohel_ahmed on | May 1, 2012, 18:52 GMT

Now you listen to me,a good captain wouldn't mind stepping down or pull himself out of the playing eleven for the sake of his team.Or you sometimes need a coach like Greg chappell who would just tell the captain in the team selection meeting that its him whom he wants to carry the drinks to the players who deserves to be in the best eleven.Don;t worry, neither of these gonna happen.Sehwag may not have a cricket brain like Ganguly but he doesn't need it either cause he knows what matters most:to score runs and score'm quickly. And don;t you please include Tamim cause he would have done a hell lot better than Samuels given a chance. So do what suits you best, keep on loosing.

@Sohel_ahmed- I agree with you mate. Ganguly's S/R is not good for IPL. If we check his IPL3 S/R they are the same. He is scoring runs but at the expense of eating more no. of balls and pressure on middle order. His running between the wickets and fielding have always been questionable. If it is one match then PWI management should be okay, but then the trend is continuing forever. I think PWI should name Clarke captain for couple of matches otherwise no chance PWI. Why S.Smith not bowling. He is a very clever bowler if you remember his bowling in the first edition of CL-T20 in the finals. Nehra must be rested for a couple of games. Ganguly is a different man when in a commentary box. He was always behind the 3 greats of India in Australia series and now he is doing the same playing all the matches and not allowing the youngsters to get exposure in IPL. I like PWI team, at least I thought they will do good this season for great Yuvi, but unfortunately that is not happening. - Jai Hind.

I don't understand why Pune is not using a hard-hitter like Luke Wright. And why Samules is playing almost in every match when he can't make any impression both with the ball and bat. And Uthappa!! He makes lots of miserable mistakes as a keeper, and then always comes to bat at the crucial time and fails to perform. Still, he is used in crucial positions again and again. And nothing to say about Nehra; everybody watched how foolishly he bowled today. Uthappa, Samules and Nehra are responsible for most of the defeats of Pune thus far. Still, these players are playing again and again. Really silly and stupid player selection by Pune. Can't expect this at all from Ganguly.

It used to be annoying, but now its getting amusing, the way BD fans are imploring both KKR and PWI to take Shakib and Tamim, and when their frantic requests are turned down, they threaten to support the rival teams, and hope as much! ;-D

But its incorrect to belittle proven Indian players like Zaheer who have performed consistently as well as waving the Asia cup defeat of India, that at best wasn't even registered in the fans' minds here, since Mr. Tendulkar was on his way to acheive his pinnacle. Good that BD played well that day and won, however how much does that change the cricketing pecking order, both competitive and commercial.Fans can help their team's cause by promoting their players positively or really put off other fans who possess significant impact, in this case, it is the Indian fans watching the IPL,who are its source of revenue.I speak this as someone who would want to see BD succeed, and who believes that it has still to acheive a lot before its fans become cocky.

I am surprised at people complaining over Ganguly.PWI has been close in winning all the matches they have lost. Its just that a Particular Nehra or Samuels comes and bowls such overs we lost a match we should have won.If Ganguly wasnt playing, PWI wud be in the same state as last yr. Who said Ganguly is slow.In the first 10 overs, having a strike rate of around 120 is very decent bcoz it lays the platform for the next 10 overs. Look at Sanga and White today. They buldgeoned the bowling in the last 5 overs..Before that their strike rate was 110 around. I hope Ganguly keeps out Nehra and Samuels otherwise PWI will continue lose matches.

What a waste for Tamim to be in the pune. Dada loves big daddy form Aust, NZ, WI from overseas. He does not want to give chance to tamim because tamim is better player than him. Tamim should quit. IPL is not the only cricket. There is no fair selection. Everybody sholud given a fair chance. Still Pune is loosing. It is good to see. That's what happen to the arrogant. Again Pune will be a big looser until Dada get out form the team.

  • POSTED BY on | May 1, 2012, 15:23 GMT

Really cannot understand why Ryder and Mathews was dropped. Also Nehra is making the same mistakes every game and giving away a load of runs at the end.Samuels is not performing in any department and still playing. Also can't make out why Steve Smith isn't bowling whereas he is a smart bowler.

  • POSTED BY on | May 1, 2012, 15:20 GMT

I hope this ends dada's misadventure with bowling. He might try himself between 6-12 overs, but not after that. 18th and 19th overs made the difference.

  • POSTED BY damsoul on | May 1, 2012, 15:19 GMT

I think there is no reason to blame him. He shows his responsibilities with his bat & also with his bowl. When he take the ball to get 18th over then all the bowlers are in a gr8 preasure. He shows his responsibilities by taking the ball in hand with that time. But we should also remember that it's a game & it sometimes depends on lady luck. So its not his fault. He took the last few overs very well we should mind it. And he also shows his aggresive batting with coming under a gr8 preasure & gets run for his team. But if he can continue just 2 or 3 overs then we will must win the match. I think the fault goes to Uttappa who cant fires in the time & waste balls. And we also mind that our team is in the run of semifinal due to the this man "PRINCE of Warriors" because by these kind of team no one can beat Mumbai, Chenni, Dellhi !!! Everyone should respect him && his effort for the whole team .... DADA fo ahead .... goooo ... gooooooo

  • POSTED BY Sohel_ahmed on | May 1, 2012, 15:17 GMT

PWI was set to score 187 runs to win and had 120 legal deliveries to score those runs.Skipper mentor vintage Ganguly played 40 balls and scored 45 runs. That means he used up one third of the allotted balls and left others to score 142 runs off the available 80 deliveries.Go figure.

  • POSTED BY johnathonjosephs on | May 1, 2012, 15:15 GMT

Hmm... Lets see.. When Sanga is dropped, Deccan struggle to 100. When Sanga is in, they never were below 130. Take a genius to figure out his role? Sanga is a natural test player. Even in this game he was extremely slow, but towards the end, he was even more destructive than Sehwag or Warner

That's not all! In a T20 match, he only managed 45 from 40 balls! Single handedly made his team lose.. Now you see why you are the weak link bro?

Ganguly saved his place in the team by scoring 45 runs but by wasting 40 deliveries for that,he killed his team's chances of winning! That just shows what his priorities are. He is more concerned about scoring some runs so that he could not be dropped, win and loss are of no importance! And why did he bowled the 17th over which went for 25 runs when had 2 overs from Murali Kartik left? He just wanted to be a hero and clearly he thinks of himself too highly now!

  • POSTED BY Hayat22 on | May 1, 2012, 14:16 GMT

Clarke has been taken by PWI for the future captiancy role, since the original captain Yuvraj may or may not play, and in any case was not exceptional in leading the side, while Ganguly will certainly be benched in the next season, or offered a mentor role, like he was at KKR, which if he is smart, will accept, else we'll see a repeat of the KKR-Ganguly estrangement, with the Dada loyalists screaming another betrayal! ;-D Clarke is not T20 material but there can be a place for one leader who could control the game, which clarke can certainly do since he has age on his side, and possibly improve his T20 strike rate. A lot of Test batsmen have done it, like Kallis so Clarke could evolve in the next edition. Ganguly in such a case would be adventitious to PWI plans!

One slow scorer like Ganguly in the team is enough. Wish people can forget nationality of players and focus on correct team combination.

That guy would score 30 to 50 runs consuming the same number of balls. He is slower than my grandmother. Just go ahead and check his stats if you think i'm wrong. Deccan's weak point is Dhawan.....

I don't understand the team selection of Pune Warriors India... Ganguly is a very slow player and has wasted so many deliveries therefore T20 cricket is not suitable for his style of play...so he shouldn't be in the line-up let alone being the captain... Jesse Ryder should have been in this team opening the batting while Clarke should have batted in the middle order... whats the point of having Samuels in the team when he has failed to perform with the bat throughout this tournament...Angelo Mathews would have been a better choice in his place...

@Abdul QudDus -- Because Tamim lives at Pune's hotel! He can't be in playing 11 today!! Because Tamim is a Bangladeshi Cricketer!! So Tamim can't be an automatic choice over very expensive bowler Samuels since Samuels is a WI cricketer!!! Doesn't matter how inform batsman is Tamim at this moment!!! Therefore Tamim MUST NOT be in the playing 11 for PWI!!! Thanks for your question -- Have a nice day!!!!!!!!!

Nehra should be awarded the Kamran Akmal award for Sporting Generosity, considering the innumerable times he has literally demonstrated his munificence!;-D
