Mumbai's former captain, Sachin Tendulkar, is warming up at the Chidambaram Stadium, where the noise levels are already quite high.

So it's time to forget about the blues (of all kinds) of the Indian team and pick your favourite from among the nine IPL colours available. The 76-game mega-event kicks off today with defending champions Chennai Super Kings taking on Mumbai Indians, who are starting the season with a new captain, Harbhajan Singh.

7.10 pm It is that time of the year again. It is Indian Premier League time. Forget the 0-8 reversal in the Tests against England and Australia. Forget the indifferent performances in the CB Series and the Asia Cup. You had barely five days to get over the World Cup triumph last year.

Shay: "Ahoy, c'mon people, cut the crap. What's up the "peaking too early" theory? A good team plays well, doesn't matter in what stage of the tournament. Of course, ultimately, the good game has to come out when it matters the most. Beyond a shadow of doubt, CSK are the best team across all the IPLs, and they do have a mysterious ability to do well right in the clutch, which is great. That said, "they're just waiting for the right time" is a horrible excuse to conceal the truth: their batting today was shambolic. (They'll not mind too much because it's still the beginning of the league.)"
