Indian Premier League - 25th match

Kings XI Punjab v Royal Challengers Bangalore

Royal Challengers Bangalore won by 5 wickets (with 3 balls remaining)

Zaheer Khan will take the new ball for the Royal Challengers, new-comer Nitin Saini will open the innings with Paul Valthaty for Punjab.

AB de Villiers will not be keeping wickets for Bangalore tonight, it will be Arun Karthik doing the honours for this game. So both teams have new keepers.

Toss: Hussey at the toss says that his thoughts are with Adam Gilchrist, who is missing his first competitive match in 16 years because of an injury!

Three debutants for them as well, including Azhar Mahmood. Nitin Saini also gets a game as a wicket-keeper, as does David Miller. Dimitri Mascarenhas has been dropped.

Vettori has won the toss and decided that Bangalore will bowl. Andrew McDonald has come in for T Dilshan for Bangalore.

7.20 pm: The news from Mohali is that Adam Gilchrist will miss out this game because of a hamstring twinge and David Hussey will lead Punjab. Who comes into the side in place of Gilchrist, we will soon know.

Hello, welcome to the 25th of 76 games of the IPL this season, making it roughly the end of the first third of the tournament this year. Kings XI Punjab will be playing hosts to the Royal Challengers Bangalore at Mohali. I am Suneer Chowdhary and will take you through the entire game tonight.

It is windy at Mohali, in fact very windy and there is a worry of rain later in the night. More updates as and when we get them.

0.5

Khan to Saini, 1 run, on the money yet again, swinging slightly into the bat, defended on the back-foot, straight to the fielders and he allows it to go through!

0.6

Khan to Valthaty, no run, pitched right up to the batsman and swinging away from the bat, wanted to come forward and defend but got nowhere near the ball. The wicket-keeper also missed it but no scoreboard damage.

2.1

Khan to Saini, no run, length ball, swinging into the pads, clipped to square-leg

2.2

Khan to Saini, 2 runs, tried to make room to hit through the covers, gets another inside-edge and it goes to fine, fine-leg for a couple

Khan to Saini, 2 runs, short ball from Zaheer and it is well pulled by Saini, goes to deep square-leg where the fine-leg fielder runs and tidies up.

2.4

Khan to Saini, OUT, out, bowled 'em! Saini is bowled after Zaheer Khan came in from round the wicket, it was coming into the batsman before it jagged away a little and he tried to go over the off-side, gets his third inside-edge of the innings but this time he is not lucky enough to miss the stumps.

3.4

Vinay Kumar to Marsh, 1 run, good length, moving into the batsman, defended on the back-foot and runs off. Vinay Kumar tried to play a bit of soccer to get Valthaty run-out but misses the stumps.

3.5

Vinay Kumar to Valthaty, no run, short ball, outside the off-stump and he goes for the pull, connects well but straight to the fielder.

3.6

Sedate start from Punjab. Zaheer continues.

4.1

Khan to Marsh, 1 run, over the wicket, into the batsman, played away on the back-foot to the leg-side for a quick one.

4.2

Khan to Valthaty, 2 runs, finally gets off the mark, with a lofted drive over the covers, Tiwary gives chase but by then the batsmen had taken two.

4.3

Khan to Valthaty, FOUR, finally some confidence going for Valthaty, round the wicket from Zaheer, length ball driven on the up and that has been crashed through the covers for a four.

4.4

Khan to Valthaty, no run, back to over the wicket, shortish and pulled, goes straighter, to mid-on

4.5

Khan to Valthaty, no run, driven on the up yet again, but this time the ball drops just short of the short cover fielder. The bat seems to be turning in Valthaty's hands.

4.6

Khan to Valthaty, OUT, pitched right up to the bat, outside the off-stump and he went for a lofted drive over mid-off, it does not clear the former Bangalore wicket-keeper fielding there and Punjab have lost two.

Patel to Marsh, 1 run, good length, Marsh is holding back on the back-foot, played away to the third-man region for a run.

5.6

golu: "Valthaty has been a pale shadow of last year... with a faulty technique he has been a easy prey for the opposition... and has put Kings XI in pressure through out this edition of IPL." The question is whether they have a replacement for him.

6.2
