Indian Premier League - 69th match

Kings XI Punjab v Delhi Daredevils

Delhi Daredevils won by 6 wickets (with 10 balls remaining)

Adam Gilchrist and Mandeep Singh are out, so are the Delhi fielders, in no particular order. Morne Morkel will take the new ball, fresh from his break in the last game.

Toss, 3.30 pm Virender Sehwag isn't playing today either, Mahela Jayawardene out for the toss. Heads is the call from MJ and they will field.

MJ: Veeru still not 100%, am sure he is very comfortable back home. We saw what happened the other day on this pitch, need to adapt to it. Not sure what a good score here is.

Gilchrist: Hamstrings doing okay, must-win game for us, to stay alive. Need to bat better, looks like a better pitch than the other night.

Team changes: Nitin Saini goes out, Paul Valthaty has been brought back for Punjab. Morne Morkel comes in for Ross Taylor for Delhi. Gilchrist asks MJ jokingly whether Morkel will bat at four.

Hello and welcome to the 69th game of the Indian Premier League this season, Kings XI Punjab host the Delhi Daredevils at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala. I am Suneer Chowdhary and will bring you the live commentary of this game, followed by the 70th match between Pune and Kolkata.

Delhi are obviously already through to the playoffs, and even if they lose this, there is a very good chance they will still finish in the top two. Punjab need to win this to have hopes of qualifying for the playoffs, but it will still depend on the results of tomorrow's games. Of course, if Punjab win today, Chennai Super Kings would have played their last game this IPL season. Lot to digest then!

Sundar: "Re: your comment that valthaty did not look comfortable out there. It is pertinent to note hat he did not look comfortable last year as well. It was only a fluke century that hyped him up like anything. He was found out last year itself when he was basically throwing his bat at everything and was very clear he would not be a great success. Wasim jaffer made it clear he had to do a lot more to get into the mumbai side. Turned out he was not good enough for that and he had to play for HP in our domestic season. His record did not exactly set the world on fire either."

9.6

Russell to Chitnis, FOUR, short ball and that has been pulled away to mid-wicket for a four! Poor bowling from Russell, on a track where the ball is still nipping around, he has chosen to bowl a length that is not quite conducive to swing bowling

18.1

Morkel to Azhar Mahmood, OUT, pitched up, outside the off stump, sliced it and straight to the point fielder, quickly to the fielder and he pouches it well

Azhar Mahmood c Chand b Morkel 36 (59m 38b 4x4 1x6) SR: 94.73

A very good innings given the context of the situation. Morkel now has 23 wickets in the tournament, two more than the next best, Narine and Malinga.

18.2

Morkel to Chawla, 1 run, full-toss, he wants to go over the top, in the end, manages to drive it to the sweeper for a single

18.3

Morkel to Gurkeerat Singh, OUT, yorker and bowled, leg stump on the ground! Singh was trying to give himself a lot of room there, as he had been doing against Russell, but this is a far superior quality bowler we are looking at and the leg-stump is sent packing

Gurkeerat Singh b Morkel 26 (18m 11b 4x4 1x6) SR: 236.36

18.4

Morkel to Harris, 2 runs, full-toss on his pads, flicked away to the deep square-leg, the fielder has to run to his left and they are able to come back for the second

18.5

Morkel to Harris, 1 run, another yorker length, dug out well to the off side and they are off for a single, the fielder at short cover fields well and shies at the non-striker's stumps, hits but the batsman is in the crease

18.6

Morkel to Chawla, OUT, bowled him, the middle stump is flattened! It was on the stumps and Chawla was trying to go up and over, missed it completely and the stump is knocked back, fourth wicket for Morkel, 25 wickets for him now in IPL

PP Chawla b Morkel 1 (3m 2b 0x4 0x6) SR: 50.00

End of over 19 (4 runs) Kings XI Punjab 126/8 (RR: 6.63)
     M Morkel    4-0-20-4
RJ Harris    3* (2b)      VR Aaron    4-0-25-0

ajay: "Yadav following a fancy number in his wickets..wickets falling in 1.1,3.3,and 5.5...:)" He is in to bowl now.

19.1

Yadav to Harris, 1 run, short of length, slams it down the ground for a single

19.2

Yadav to Kumar, 1 run, short of length, pushed to the point, he is unsure of the single, Harris calls him through and could have been out, run-out at the non-striker's end had it hit

19.3

Yadav to Harris, SIX, short of length and that has been whacked away over mid-wicket for a six!

19.4

Yadav to Harris, FOUR, pitched up this time but this is too full, takes him on the full-toss, thwacked over the deep mid-wicket region for another four!

19.5

Yadav to Harris, 1 run, finally gets the length right, pitched right up, swinging in too, Harris wants to swing it away, inside edge to mid-wicket for a single

19.6

Yadav to Kumar, 2 runs, full pitched again, driven to long-on and they have taken a single, come back for the second and there is an appeal for a run-out at the striker's end, the batsman is only slightly in, an excellent end to the innings

At 20/4 in six overs, things looked lost for the Kings XI Punjab on a track that swung and bounced. Siddharth Chitnis and Azhar Mahmood brought the side back with an excellent stand but a lot of it can be blamed to the way the support cast to Morkel and Yadav bowled, Russell conceded 51 in his four while Aaron and Pathan failed to get any breakthroughs.

Gurkeerat Singh slammed 26 off 11 and Punjab scored 57 off the last five overs to bring themselves up to a par score, according to some, even an above-par one of 141. Chase in 10 minutes.

End of over 20 (15 runs) Kings XI Punjab 141/8
P Kumar    3* (2b)      UT Yadav    4-1-19-3
RJ Harris    15* (6b 1x4 1x6)      M Morkel    4-0-20-4
