John Mcilwraith, a member of the fifth Australian team which visited England in 1886, died at Melbourne of July 13, 1938, aged 81. A hard-hitting batsman at his best, he was not particularly successful on that tour, making 533 runs, average 15. He played in one Test. Just before coming to England he hit 133 for Victoria against New South Wales--his first appearance for the State--and 125 for the Australian team against Victoria. In first-class cricket in Australia he scored 947 runs with an average of 32. In the 1883-84 season his aggregate exceeded 1,500 runs for the Melbourne CC alone.
