TEAMS
Archie Cumberbatch was a fast bowler of note who began as a groundman at Pickwick CC and despite being genuinely quick from an early age, he was ineligible for selection for Barbados as he was classified as a professional. He left for Trinidad in 1896 to work at the Queen's Park Oval and was soon chosen for the island side, before he had a one-year spell in Jamaica in 1898-99 and then Barbados in 1900-01. He returned to Trinidad in March 1901, and as he had stopped working at the Oval he was at last eligible to play in the intercolonial competition as he was no longer considered a professional. By the time he toured England in 1906 he was past his best even though he was only 27 and he was less than impressive. He played only one more first-class game after that trip, in 1909. Details of his place and date of death remain unknown.
