Indian Premier League - 39th match

Delhi Daredevils v Kolkata Knight Riders

Delhi Daredevils won by 7 wickets (with 17 balls remaining)

4.15 pm: So the Kolkata openers are out. McCullum and Ganguly. Nehra to bowl. One slip in place.

We have a comment from Sierra Leone, wow. Chris: "The semi finalists could well be the same as last year, three places seem booked to me Chennai, Delhi and Rajasthan, but the last one is a tough call between the 4 teams." Where are you, Freetown?

Still a few more minutes to go before the start. So check out some interesting piece from our IPL Page 2. Sriram Veera finds out the artillery comes out at the toss these days. Plus, more accounts of post-match fraternising. All in the Daily Dose. Rebecca Lee and her cheerleader pals hand out tips and tricks to kids on the sidelines of a game. More in her diary, here.

Craig: "I don't think Shastri understands the purpose of a microphone. It supposedly allows people to hear without having to yell. Perhaps he just likes the sound of his own voice." You said that, I didn't.

Here's Anand Patel's roomie who disagrees with him. Probably university students, these two, go study!!! Chirag: "As Anand's Patel roommate and big Sachin fan....i want to say that Dada needs to bat higher (partially also because he is in my fantasy team), and Sehwag should rest (he is not in my fantasy team) so i can compete with my roommate in fantasy. Go Dada!! You are my TP today."

Delhi, by the way, have an unchanged side.

Karan: "We dont want to risk him today!?" Its just a minor injury, Graeme walked with a broken hand on the last day, resting a player for 4 matches on a finger injury is ridiculous." Poor Sehwag has four stitches on his fingers. Also, there's a difference between an IPL game with a team virtually in the semis, and a Test.

Danny Morrison, one of the commentators for the IPL just said the "Bengal Tigers" are warming up. He'll probably end up receiving a rap on the knuckles for this. He seems to forget that the Bengal Tigers are an ICL team.

Imran: "Please let Mashrafe Mortaza play in place of Moises Henriques. Who is with me?" No one, not McCullum.

4.17 pm: Shastri is yelling out with the mike. Delhi have won the toss and opted to field. There's no Sehwag, Gambhir says they don't want to risk him today. McCullum says he would have batted first anyway, most captains have said that after losing the toss. Sourav Sarkar - who makes his IPL debut - comes in for Dinda, that's the one change for Kolkata. No mention of Mashrafe.

4.15 pm: The pitch is dry and has a few cracks. Still a good one for batting, and the experts believe a score of 170 is gettable.

The enthusiasm of fans like Anand Patel amid a crisis for his team is the only thing Kolkata can bank on a this point in time - "As a Knight Riders fan (not many left now I guess) I am looking forward to this game. Can you please pass-on my message to both the teams? Kolkata please make better use of Dada by making him bat in top 3, he is my 'God of cricket'. Delhi please go in with Sehwag, he is in my Fantasy team."

4.05 pm: There's still some time to go for the toss, around ten minutes or so. So read the preview in the meantime. Will Mashrafe Mortaza play? He's worth US$600,000 remember. Wish I was paid that much and asked to do nothing.

4.00 pm local time: The punching bags of the IPL, Kolkata Knight Riders are up against Delhi Daredevils, who have a chance here to reclaim the top spot.

There's time for you to make changes to your Fantasy teams. We are running two versions of the game, the regular salary cap game as well as a pick 'em fantasy. There are prizes for both, go here for details.

0.1

Nehra to McCullum, no run, nipping back in, landed on a good length on the off and came back in, punched to midwicket off the back foot

McCullum backs away just as Nehra is about to deliver. The camera seems to have distracted him, the fly-camera

Nehra to McCullum, SIX, banged it in short, rocked back and pulled it away powerfully over square leg, a flat six that, a crowd-killer

0.3

Nehra to McCullum, 1 wide, nervy Nehra strays it down the leg side this time, held its line, concedes a wide

0.3

Nehra to McCullum, OUT, he's given him!! Nehra was the only guy who appealed, landed on a good length on middle and angled away, McCullum moved across to play it away on the leg side, was struck on the pads but it was clearly missing off. Suresh Shastri raises his finger, a poor decision

BB McCullum lbw b Nehra 6 (3b 0x4 1x6) SR: 200.00

Big disappointment early on for Kolkata. Wrongly given out the poor McCullum, and that momentary high of the first six is now over

0.5

Nehra to Hodge, no run, came back in, pitched on middle and off, driven to mid-on

A horrific start for Kolkata here. Hodge and van Wyk were their mainstays in their last few games, and with both gone now the prospects don't look too good

Yashpal Singh c Bhatia b Mishra 13 (20b 2x4 0x6) SR: 65.00

Ranveer is optimistic, like the hordes of Barmy Army fans who travel to Australia every four years - "I bet, we will have a score of more than 140 and then Ishant and co......And a spectacular win for KKR."

Prat: "what are 3 wicketkeepers doing in the kolkata team? instead of saha, why cant the team choose to play cheteshwar pujara who is a quality player. pujara should be in the squad instead of saha. " He was injured, but don't know about his current status.

Was about to bowl the seventh ball of the over, but the umpire stopped him at the right time. Kolkata have themselves to blame for this. Yes, McCullum was unlucky, but the other batsmen failed to restrain themselves. Hodge slashed one to slip, van Wyk pulled one straight to square leg, Yashpal holed out in the deep and Saha played a poor shot first-up. Only Ganguly remains, and he would do well here to salvage a score of around 100-110.

18.3

Nehra to Agarkar, 2 runs, nicely done, full outside off, drives it uppishly wide of long-off for a couple more

18.4

18.5

Nehra to Kartik, 2 runs, banged in short outside off, makes room and slashes it wide of third man for two more

18.6

End of over 19 (7 runs) Kolkata Knight Riders 114/7 (RR: 6.00)
M Kartik    9* (7b)      A Nehra    4-0-29-2
AB Agarkar    32* (26b 3x4 1x6)      R Bhatia    1-0-13-0

Can they get past 120? They should, but it's a good pitch to bat on, this. Same one as the 434 game. Sangwan to bowl the last over

19.1

Sangwan to Kartik, 1 run, fullish outside off, dug out wide of cover for a quick signle

19.2

Sangwan to Agarkar, SIX, excellent shot, meaty, length delivery on leg stump, comes down, gets under it and strikes it cleanly over long-on for a big one

19.3

Sangwan to Agarkar, 1 run, full toss outside off, makes room and carts it wide of deep cover, firmly struck but didn't find the gap

19.4

Sangwan to Kartik, no run, yorker length outside off, tried to swipe it over midwicket, missed

19.5

Sangwan to Kartik, 1 run, length ball outside off, drilled down the ground to long-on

19.6

Sangwan to Agarkar, OUT, holes out in the deep, slower one bowled short on middle, didn't time it well enough as he went for the pull, found Manhas running in from deep midwicket

AB Agarkar c Manhas b Sangwan 39 (29b 3x4 2x6) SR: 134.48

Though Agarkar did well with his cameo to take his team beyond 120, Delhi will fancy chasing this down relatively easily. The early wickets dented Kolkata from the outset, and some miserly bowling combined with some poor shot selection put an end to the possibility of a really challenging score. Ganguly made 44, but failed to receive support from the other end as he kept losing partners at frequent intervals. However, his team has something to defend here, and will have to pull off something special to make Delhi struggle here.

End of over 20 (9 runs) Kolkata Knight Riders 123/8
     PJ Sangwan    3-0-32-1
M Kartik    11* (10b)      A Nehra    4-0-29-2
