NCU President's XI v Bangladeshis, Tour Match, Comber July 16, 2012

Ashraful, Sunny shine in victory

ESPNcricinfo staff

Bangladeshis 164 (Ashraful 52*) beat NCU President's XI 61 for 5 (Sunny 2-7) by 48 runs (D/L method)

Mohammad Ashraful hit an unbeaten half-century and Elias Sunny tied down the NCU President's XI top order before rain brought an early end to Bangladesh's second Twenty20 warm-up match of the day. The players were forced off with 13.2 overs bowled, with the Bangladeshis awarded a 48-run win under the Duckworth-Lewis method.

NCU lost opener Rory McCann to the third ball of the reply and the batsmen struggled to deal with Sunny's left-arm spin, as he took two wickets in consecutive overs, as well as bowling a maiden. Andrew White was 19 not out when the rain came, with Andrew Poynter having just departed. With 104 required from less than seven overs, NCU's task already looked beyond them.

Bangladesh had already beaten an Ireland XI earlier in the day, chasing down 104, and they proved equally adept at setting a target. Ashraful only hit four boundaries in his 52 but Mahmudullah scored 43 off 27 balls and Ziaur Rahman cleared the ropes twice in his 22, as the tourists completed their preparations for the T20 series against Ireland.

We all know how Ashraful plays his game. This always has been injustice to him for forcing him not to play at his own style. Definitely for ODI and T20 we need him in the opening slot along with Tamim Iqbal. We have seen how good Hayden and Gilchrist were for Australia once! We can afford to have them both opening for us, then we can think as we are 10 men show! There is no harm thinking like that as pakistan did the same for a long time with afridi. We always want the best of best, that is why we are not successful yet. We have to plan our games based on Shakib now. So, this is the time to give Ashraful floor to perform freely without any pressure. Ashraful, Mashrafee has always been our match winner, and now we have Shakib and Tamim! We should use these 4 players along with our captain Mushfiq and rest of the team. No doubt Shafiul is our best pacer at this time. We should use, Rubel as a backup bowler for Shafiul or Mashrafee!

Shafiul was good in last match. He is from injury,That's why we need to understand the situation. He was expensive in only last over

The best possible way we can use is power play time and the opening.... we alll know Ashrafull likes to play his shot... specially in air.. whatever advice or pressure you give , he can not just implement. so for at least T20 and Oneday we can use him best by sending him to open the innings.. just someone has to tell him not to do any silly predetermined shot like down the wicket, after hitting 2 consecutive fours just rotate and leave the pressure. thus we can get some 30 or 40 innings from Ashrafull. that can make a good solid opening i just remember Jayasurya.. how he opened the innings in 1996 world cup and clicked for Srilanka

Ash is good in power play overs. So he should always open with Tamim. If opponent team keeps too many fielder near the boundary line, more chance to lose his wicket, most of the time he can't send the ball all the way to the boundary line.

Agree with Cricket2011. It would the new players the experience and learn how much they need to do better. I wish that Ireland wins this series so that it would raise the profile of this sport in their country.

Nasir Hussain is a genuine talent SO there can not be any alternative of him at this current time. Let him play his way and find his goal. We should not bother his concentration by making some silly comments so early.

I think Nasir Hussain are facing problem as he didn't performing well. But need to patient and give him some time to be get self-confidence. I couldn't trust Junaed or Johirul. For him. Shafiul also not performing well. BD should observe this tournament about Nasir & Shafiul performance. If they will not performing well find out replacement. We want fighting & challenging player those who will be fight until end of the game. In my opinion BD has already found nine players except that two.

Well done TIGERS.........But don't be so much over complaisant....We must have to remember that last 2 practice matches only 2 players of IRE national side played in........So, its their tactical decision to not let you guys settle playing against the best possible IRE team......Im little bit tensed but hope you guys are going to prove me wrong by winning the series........GO TIGERS GO>>>>>>>>>

@bobagorof: I understand your frustration because he disappointed us many times. I also want him in the team when he is consistent. We have problem for the opening partner with Tamim and also for the third position. Nafis/Kayes/Jahurul is not consistent at opening and so is not Junaid/Raqibul/Nazimuddin at 3rd position. So if someone like Ashraful comes with consistent performance, we can fit him in one of those positions, thats what my expectation. Afterall, you and me both want the winning of BD team, I beleive.

Last two game; Ireland players couldn't do anything, but these game will help emerging players of Ireland some support in International game. Bangladesh team is more professional than before. They came this time with a big preparation with few domestic game of T20. It should be a good series if Ireland won the series over Bangladesh.
