William Pollock was generally accepted as the best batsman of his time in Ireland. He would have played for his country more than eight times between 1909 and 1925 had he been available. He scored 405 runs, including 144 against Scotland at Glasgow in 1924, average 31.15. His son, Stuart Pollock, took part in 41 matches for Ireland.
