Vinayak Khedkar was a right-hand opening batsman who played nine Ranji Trophy matches for Maharashtra between 1985-86 and 1988-89. He had a memorable debut, scoring 110 against Saurashtra and putting on 166 for the first wicket with Riaz Poonawala, and three weeks later he made a career-best 127 in his third match. But after a first season in which he made 444 runs at 55.50, he struggled, and in four more games he made only 72 runs. He continued to play for the Bank of Maharashtra and after retirement he served as a member of Maharashtra's junior selection committee. He died from a heart attack while on his way to a gym.
