Chris Walton was a right-hand top-order batsman whose first-class career really started after National Service when he played for three years in the Oxford University side, winning Blues in 1955,56 and 57, captaining them in his final year. He scored 57 in his first Varsity match innings, but failed to reach double figures in any of the other five. His best season came in 1956 when he made 1200 runs at 38.70, including his only three hundreds, although he came within 44 runs of reaching 1000 runs in 1957. After leaving Oxford he played regularly for Middlesex for two years but never recaptured the form he had shown in 1956, and faded from the scene.
