Afghanistan 171 for 6 (Nabi 46, Wardlaw 3-40) beat Scotland 154 for 6 (MacLeod 56, Machan 54) by 17 runs

Afghanistan got their World T20 Qualifier campaign back on track by holding off Scotland, who were given a solid platform in their chase by half-centuries from Calum MacLeod and Matt Machan but couldn't finish the game off. Scotland's display was an improvement on their defeat to Bermuda on Friday but they are still looking for their first win. Afghanistan opener Mohammad Shahzad got the innings off to a blistering start before he was dismissed for 42 off 22 balls in the sixth over. Shahzad was the first of three victims for Iain Wardlaw but Mohammad Nabi and Samiullah Shenwari kept the innings ticking over. MacLeod and Machan responded by putting on 76 for the second wicket but the asking rate was up to ten an over when MacLeod departed and Scotland's middle order fell away in the closing overs.

Nepal 186 for 4 (Khakurel 54, Khadka 54*) beat Kenya 182 for 7 (Patel 103) by six wickets

A blitz from Sharad Vesawkar, who had earlier conceded 30 runs from his only over, propelled Nepal to victory in the highest-scoring match of the tournament so far. Kenya, who made 176 against Papua New Guinea on Friday, were on the losing side after setting a respectable target for the second game running. Rakep Patel's aggressive hundred, which featured ten sixes, pushed his team to an even higher total - after they had been 32 for 4 - and it was the No. 6 batsman who took to Vesawkar in the 17th over. That looked like being the difference between the two sides, despite half-centuries from Subash Khakurel and Paras Khadka, when Vesawkar came in with 20 required from eight deliveries - but he smashed three sixes to give Nepal their second win in a row.

Papua New Guinea 193 for 3 (Ura 100, Pala 57) beat Netherlands 141 for 9 (Rippon 50*, Vanua 3-12) by 52 runs

A century for Tony Ura and Norman Vanua's brilliant opening spell with the ball condemned Netherlands to a huge defeat in Dubai. Fresh from beating Afghanistan, Netherlands were brought back to earth by another vibrant display from Papua New Guinea, who joined Nepal and Bermuda on two wins from two. In pursuit of the highest total made thus far, Netherlands slumped to 15 for 5 after 3.1 overs, with 19-year-old Vanua removing three of the top four, and only an unbeaten first T20 fifty from Michael Rippon prevented utter humiliation. Having chosen to field, Netherlands quickly saw the match get away from them, as Ura and Kila Pala rattled off a partnership of 127 at faster than ten an over. Pala went for 57 and Ura fell for a round 100 in the final over as PNG racked up an intimidating 193 for 3.

Bermuda 112 for 1 (Manders 45*) beat Denmark 111 for 8 (Shah 31, Brangman 3-29)

Bermuda followed their upset win against Scotland by thumping Denmark by nine wickets and 22 balls to spare. The victory was set up by their bowlers, who restricted Denmark to 111 for 8 despite Bermuda losing the toss. Denmark did not have any significant partnerships and only two of their batsmen made it past 20. Hamid Shah's 31 at No. 6 was the top score. Derrick Brangman took 3 for 29 for Bermuda, while Dion Stovell and Jacobi Robinson took two each. Stovell gave Bermuda's chase a quick start by scoring 24 off 11 balls and they were 37 in 3.3 overs when he was dismissed. Tre Manders and David Hemp had the luxury of playing carefully and they completed the chase in 16.2 overs. Manders was unbeaten on 45 and Hemp on 27.

True Batting Skills from Nepalese players after some failure by top order batsman in previous matches (Tournament 1st match and their warm up matches). Captain Paras once again proving Nepal's Savior, bowling always being our strength we need more focus on batting.... Hip Hip Hurrah for Team Nepal.

Posted by Rabindra_Dahal on (November 17, 2013, 6:59 GMT)

If Nepal wants to do good is T20 cricket they frequently need to make this types of total. Need to work more in batting side, more, though fielding & bowling is satsifactory.C'mon guys need 2 win Afg & Neth too, to create ur heavy weight.

Posted by sumannasha on (November 17, 2013, 6:17 GMT)

We are so happy, we need another big win against Scotland on Nov-18, but Nepalese openers will do the best for upcoming match against Scot.

Nepal has not good exposure despite the talent players. This is the opportunity to show their ability infront of worldwide cricket lovers. I am excited to see Nepal playing confident against worldcup experienced team. So far as Afganistan, they are good side and nepal is not bad there. Remember, Nepal stopped AFG under 90 run in their last match. Good luck to Nepali squad ahead !

Nepal really played to their mark today. It was an awesome match.Nepal now need to continue their winning momentum in this tournament. They are yet to play with the mighties like Afghanistan,Netherlands. It was good to see Subash Khakurel batting to his potential. Pars Khadka is the man who is leading Nepal from the front. If somebody plays the supporting role for him we can go through this T20 Qualifier. Bangladesh is Waiting Us for 2014 T20 WC.... Jay Nepali Cricket!!!!

Nepal played much better than expected against huge total 182. I think nepal deservs to play ICC-T20 wordcup. Nepal's progress without adequate resources is awsome.

@ well winning or losing is a part of the game hopefully Afghanistan can make it 3 out of 3 T20 world cup again it is T20 and anything can happen so far group B all teams are doing really and I hope Nepal PNG and Afghanistan make it to Bangladesh also some people are says that Nepal is better than Afghanistan let me remind you all that Afghanistan just beat Nepal in Nepal couple months ago.

Huge congratulation. Great chasing. My heart was bitting fast when the chasing was like 17 required in 6 balls. Thanks for Vesaker, u have done wonderful in batting. It's a lesson to the team not to give part timers the later overs.

Best of luck. Keep it up. Love to see you boys in World cup.

Posted by   on (November 16, 2013, 19:44 GMT)

Great to see Nepalese boys winning a semi finalist despite of very limited resources.

Posted by   on (November 16, 2013, 19:36 GMT)

I think Nepal and Afghanistan should get special recognition, they really love their cricket! Great too see the affiliates and associates getting a chance to prove themselves. Imagine if teams like USA, PNG, Italy, Denmark and Nepal went to the world cup... cricket in those countries would generate lots of interest in their respective countries and cricket would be more globalized.

Posted by Afgsupporter on (November 16, 2013, 18:19 GMT)

Don't compare nepal with Afghanistan I don't say Nepal is a bad team they are performing well but nepal have little more time to grow and build themselves but all the best for Nepal They are my favourite after team Afghanistan Good luck all

Posted by madhugaire on (November 16, 2013, 17:29 GMT)

this is the kind of match everybdy wants to witness in t20. Although Nepal dominated the first half of the Kenya innings, it was their bowler, specially part timers who leaked the runs uncontrollably towards the end of the innings. Having set the highest target of the tournament so far, Kenya must have felt themselves on the upper side. The pure entertainment of the shortest version pf the cricket was yet to come when Nepal was under the tremendous pressure of the mountain like required run rate of 12 for the last quarter of their innings. But, it was Nepal who held their nerves and went on to make once looked most difficult total seem rather a chaseable with ease.

Posted by   on (November 16, 2013, 17:23 GMT)

Gud job done guys.. best of luck .. east or west Nepal iz best

I am not sure anybody can possibly say that Nepal are a better team than Afghanistan. the Afghanis have proved what they are capable many times over already. Nepal on the other hand are also an exciting team to watch with real talent in their ranks. I'm not sure about their strength in depth yet but you cannot fault their commitment. PNG real dark horse team can they keep the stellar performances up? All that aside this group has already throw up some surprises and all the teams deserve so much more from this tournament that a place in yet another qualifying tournament given the effort they are putting into this one. Scotland and Holland really have their work cut out to progress now and who would have thought that before the tournament started?

Posted by   on (November 16, 2013, 16:49 GMT)

PNG is a good team..well done and congrats ...keep it up the performance. Feeling sorry about kenya...

I know some of you jump to conclusion that Afghanistan is a luck team. Really? I don't think pure luck get you qualified for to consective T20 World Cup or 2015 world cup. Cheers Afghans all the way!!!!

Kenyan captain Collins should take blame for the two games we have lost why did he not give the bowling to Varaiya or Shem who had overs left and were very economical also he could have bowled more overs himself instead of giving to Odhiambo who was expensive in this game and also last game and he always prefers him this is bad captaincy. Why is Irfan or Duncan not given a chance in place of Odoyo and also Nelson bowls better. Kenya should appoint another captain Collins has had his chance and we need a new face and new ideas.Where is Tanmay Mishra can Cricket Kenya let us know why he is not playing.Well done Rakeep our wishes are with you BOYS and we know you will rise very soon GO BOYS LET US WIN THE NEXT FIVE GAMES AND QUALIFY IN STYLE

Posted by   on (November 16, 2013, 15:43 GMT)

Nepal don't get carried away, there is still a lot of work to be done. BEST WISHES AGAIN for upcoming games. NEPAL.......NEPAL.......NEPAL.......NEPAL. CHEERS!!!!!

Posted by   on (November 16, 2013, 15:37 GMT)

What I said in previous post, Nepali batsmen played wid freely and without any pressure so lost 5 wickets against Denmark......

Posted by   on (November 16, 2013, 15:31 GMT)

PNG are suddenly real contenders after their wins over Kenya and Holland (and not forgetting their warm up win over Ireland). Nepal going well too, hope to see these two home grown sides make it through to the World T20, the Nepalese fans in particular deserve it.

Posted by   on (November 16, 2013, 15:30 GMT)

Good work Nepal. Keep it up

Posted by Jonah58 on (November 16, 2013, 14:40 GMT)

This looks like a VERY interesting group, almost no match going to expectations, Scotland needing a rapid improvement, Afg looking to recover from a stumble, PNG and Nepal heading the group (congrats to both teams) Top quality entertainment all round. this has been far more interesting to watch than any other cricket taking place at the same time.
