Cayman Islands Cricket Team News & Matches
History
The most remote of the Caribbean islands, the isolation has stifled cricket's development. Played only on Grand Cayman, the largest of the islands, the game was limited to one ground - which doubled as a football field - until the 1970s when the Smith Road Oval was built. The purpose-laid pitch - Jamaican clay overlaid with matting - is satisfactory but the other facilities less so. Progress has also been checked by the lack of genuine interest among the indigenous population, with immigrants still supplying most of the players. The domestic competition is played between seven sides between April and September.
