Pakistan v South Africa ODI Series - 5th ODI

Pakistan v South Africa

South Africa won by 57 runs

Graeme Smith and Hashim Amla have made their way out. We are ready for the start. A sparse crowd to start with, but it was almost near capacity at night during the last game. Shoaib has the ball. Two slips to begin with, Umar Akmal to keep.

Here's the Zulqi news piece again, it'll be updated as we keep hearing more. The Pakistanis pose for a team photo, all smiles, but they will be concerned.

Graeme: "News from Corrie van Zyl is that SA are trying to look at combinations before the WC on the sub-continent. Hopefully they are looking at who to EXclude, not INclude in the squad. I can think of no other reason for the selection changes made today. But then I thought they already had enough evidence that Rusty, Lopsy and Parnell's slower balls turn more than Robbie P's. Nice that Langes is still in the mix. He always had a bit of a raw deal."

Tsotsobe it is in place of Parnell. The XI's are updated.

Waseem Khan: "So, what will be the outcome of this shattering and depressing news on the team, and in what state of mind they will be?... Hoping for the best. Where are ICC's James Bond Guys?. Mr. Justin Green Plz help out...!"

Gareth sends this in from Australia: "Not a tour goes by without some sort of drama for Pakistan. Not the sort of lead up you want to a world cup. Fingers crossed it all gets sorted, and the boys can focus on playing some cricket."

Waqar Younis: "I'm not really sure at the moment. The team manager will able to tell you better. We're still all geared up and looking forward to this game." That's all he can say about this.

All speculation as to where he might have gone at this point, but it's yet another worry for the Pakistan camp. We have a match to cover, so here's Liam Brickhill's preview for the same. Shahzaib replaces Farhat, Yousuf replaces Asad Shafiq. Akmal is in for Zulqy. Rameez Raja said Zulqarnain's apparently taken his passport this morning. "It's going to hurt Pakistan cricket. You can't divorce yourself from what has happened in the last 24 hours," Rameez says.

Graeme Smith has won the toss and opted to bat. Two changes. Tsotsobe is back for Parnell, Peterson is in for David Miller. "He's resting, we're still trying to find him," says Afridi. "Security is trying to trace him." Three changes for Pakistan - Mohammad Yousuf is back, Umar Akmal replaces Haider, Shahzaib Hasan is also in.

We'll have the toss pretty soon. Will let you know if we hear more from the captain. Time for the toss now.

2.15pm It was Haider who struck the winning runs in Pakistan's series-levelling win in the last match. He was recently fined, along with Shahzaib Hasan and Abdur Rehman, for breaking the curfew by the PCB. And now, he's gone missing. Just when events on the field appeared to be going right for Pakistan, the off-field controversies have again come to haunt them.

2.00pm Hello and welcome to coverage of the deciding one-day international between Pakistan in South Africa in Dubai. It has been a thriller series so far, but just when everyone should be talking about the cricket there is another bizzare story emerging from the Pakistan team: Zulqarnain Haider, the wicketkeeper, has gone missing and isn't with the squad at the ground. We will bring you more news as we get in on the situation.

We are getting word of the Pakistan team and it has three changes. Umar Akmal, Shahzaib Hasan and surprisingly, Mohammad Yousuf have come into the side. Akmal will, in all likelihood, take over Zulqarnain's role. Yousuf only arrived in Dubai yesterday, after recovering from an abductor strain, and wasn't expected to take part in the ODIs at all.

Srikanth: "An opener starts briskly scoring runs at will and against the run of play, throws away his wicket - the run rate drops, the opportunities dry up, the others feel the pressure and regular wickets fall. This is seen in almost every team, more pronounced when they bat first without any pressure on the openers - With Amla's departure I feel SA will find it tough to reach 250 - the Pakistani spinners will choke the flow of runs - the best SA batsman against spin is Amla...."

South Africa will take it. They started off superbly but Pakistan struck when Amla was looking dangerous. Kallis and AB put the South Africans on top again during that steady century-stand but when three wickets fell in three overs, thanks to the spinners, Pakistan had pulled things back. But, at the end of the innings, it is South Africa who will think they have an edge after Duminy and Botha cashed in on the Powerplay, taking 64 off the last five overs and 75 off the last six. Pakistan have rushed through their overs, finishing well before the scheduled time. Join us in about 45 minutes time for the chase. It's 6.10pm local time right now.
