South Africa v England Test and one-day series
Series between South Africa and England stretch back to 1888-89, with England dominating the first four encounters. In 134 Tests, England have won 55 to South Africa's 28. The first Test at Centurion gets underway on December 16.
A planned tour by England in 1968-69 was cancelled when the South Africa's apartheid government refused to allow entry to Basil D'Oliveira, a coloured allrounder originally from South Africa who was controversially not included in the original squad. It was the start of more than two decades of sporting isolation for South African cricket.
South Africa are now captained by Graeme Smith, while England's leader is Andrew Strauss who enjoyed a prolific first tour of South Africa in 2004-05 with 656 runs.
