37.2 this time the edge has gone to slip! Warner goes after a post-lunch blitz and he gets applauded off Adelaide Oval. He stayed on the back foot and poked away from his body at a good length ball that pitched around off-stump line and angled across him from over the wicket. Smith was waiting at first slip 210/4
10.3 Kallis has broken through! Lbw, or is that caught and bowled? Kallis fired in the yorker and Cowan, who was standing outside his crease had to hurry to dig it out. I thought it hit his bat and replays seem to indicate the ball lobbed off Cowan's bat and back to Kallis. It might have hit the toe as well, and if so that's plumb. Lbw and caught and bowled, but the lbw was first. Now there's a change in decision and it's a caught and bowled. But I think it hit the boot first. The rules say that a caught will over-ride an lbw. the ball shot up off the toe and lobbed back to the bowler, it hit high on the bat. 43/1
11.6 caught at first slip! Quiney's gone for a duck. Morkel pitched it on a good length just outside off and angled it into the left-hander, Quiney moved back and across to defend from his crease and got an outside edge. Smith took a low catch at first slip. And just like that, this start has turned around 44/2
12.6 bowled him! Kallis has produced a ripping ball. He bowled a full ball which Ponting chose to defend from his crease instead of coming forward. The ball swerved away from the right-hander very late and beat the outside edge to hit of stump, Ponting fell to the pitch after he was beaten. He was completely squared up and beaten. It shaped into him at first and then swung away 55/3

91.4 it's over! stop the press, Michael Clarke has been dismissed, yes he has, that was pitched up by Morkel, Clarke stays in the crease as he looks to play that one, he misses and the ball cannons into middle stump, that ball angled in, more than Clarke expected, between bat and pad, end of a classic from Clarke, end of a nightmare for South Africa 494/6

86.5 and against all odds, Steyn has bowled Hussey and that will be stumps on the first day. Steyn pitched on a good length around off and the ball came back into the left-hander. Hussey was late in bringing his bat down and the ball hit the top of off stump. That will be small consolation for South Africa, they have received a severe hiding 482/5
95.6 Morkel strikes again, Wade hadn't scored in a while, he thought he could crash a length ball outside off through the cover, only gets a thin edge through to the keeper, Wade is distraught as he trudges off, knowing that there were some runs to be had on what remains a lovely batting track 501/7
98.2 Kleindveldt gets his first Test wicket, or does he? the no-ball check, that is tight, many replays needed to check whether it is behind the line, looks to be safe by mere millimetres, he is, Kleinveldt can finally savour a Test wicket, Siddle gets a healthy nick through to slip, that was a back of a length ball, Siddle might have been better off playing off the front foot, he hangs back in the crease, so Australia 21/3 on the day 503/8
107.2 the innings is over, Smith takes his fourth catch of the innings, takes it on the second chance after missing it on the first, Pattinson gets a thick edge as he looks to thump a fuller one from Steyn, so Australia all out for 550 550/10
99.6 and Morkel completes his five-for, the short ball does the job, this was headed for the helmet, Hilfenhaus goes for the hook, top-edges it towards deep backward square leg, a duck for the Hilf, Australia 504 for 9, not quite going to plan for them today 504/9

74.2 Huge wicket, Smith's called for a review, pitched on a good length outside off and Smith tried to close the face on that one and drive it in the region of midwicket, there was a deviation, but the bat appeared to hit the ground just as the ball went past the bat. Bowden's given him out caught-behind. Did it move away just as the bat came down? Hot Spot shows a tiny heat signature on the outside edge, a very tiny one but it's there nevertheless. Bowden's waiting for the final call, and raises his finger. Smith isn't happy, he called for a review immediately after Bowden first gave him out 233/4
41.2 an amateur mistake from Petersen, he's run out after a lackadaisical attempt to make his ground, doesn't drag his bat in and instead looks to plop it in after crossing, pays the price, just the lift Australia needed when their bowling was looking increasingly clueless, it was a direct hit from Hussey at mid-on that did the job, the other problem for Petersen was that he almost ran into Smith mid-pitch while going for the run, costing him time, the other problem was that he was expecting the throw was going to Smith's end, he was strolling towards the end of that run, a bonus wicket this for Australia 138/1
50.5 has he done it here? the massive wicket of Amla? yes, he has, huge roar from the Adelaide crowd as they see the replays of the stumping, Amla was down the track looking to drive, he misses the ball, playing down the wrong line, he's yorked himself almost, Wade almost fluffs it again as he doesn't collect cleanly, but Amla is out far enough to give Wade time to dislodge the bails and send back the dangerman, a priceless wicket in these flat conditions 169/2
73.1 Rudolph had done this earlier today, in the previous over from Lyon in fact, went for a drive but it had then landed safe. Extra cover's still there, this was flighted and he went hard at that one, perhaps with the aim of clearing that fielder but ended up striking it straight to him. Rudolph was livid. He knew he was set, and Australia now have an opening 233/3
76.6 Siddle's on fire, he's rapped AB on the pads and Bowden's given him out. AB's called for a review. Landed on off and middle, didn't notice any movement there but AB went across and tried to turn the face slightly, missed and it held its line, would have hit middle and leg as the replays showed. Bowden right again, South Africa are five down 240/5
124.3 Silly mid-on into the act, Clarke takes a good, sharp catch, pitched up and Du Plessis pushed loosely at that one but was snapped by the Australian captain 388/10
82.4 gone, Steyn did this earlier in the over, short of a good length this time and he pushed at that one, away from his body again and it moved away to produce the outside edge, Ricky Ponting took it comfortably at second slip 246/6
84.3 Kleinveldt has lost his off stump, similar delivery to the previous one but on a good length this time, fuller than the previous one, landed on middle and moved away, Kleinveldt swung hard at that one, trying to smack it over midwicket, missed and the off stump was sent cartwheeling towards the keeper 250/7
114.5 Appeal for a caught-behind and it's been reviewed by Australia as the on-field umpire turns it down. Kallis went for a sweep, that was on leg stump and tried to sweep it fine. It definitely hit the pads but was there some impact with the bat as it lobbed up on its way to Wade? Gone. Struck the pads, then definitely struck the glove as it popped up to Wade. Hit the right thumb. 343/8

20.6 Three for Kleinveldt, this one swung back in, landed on a good length on the off after swinging in and moved in further after pitching, Cowan was beaten through the gate as he tried to play it straight back 91/3
16.1 Kleinveldt strikes, definitely this time! Good extra bounce for the bowler from round the wicket, Warner's standing outside the crease, turned the face a touch too early and got a leading edge to be caught at extra cover 77/1
16.3 Quiney grabs a pair, double-strike from Kleinveldt, angling in from round the wicket, lands on the off stump and then moves away, Quiney tries to defend off the back foot, gets a thick outside edge and AB dives to his left to complete he catch 77/2

26.2 Ponting's gone! He's dragged it back on, Short of a good length from Steyn again, Ponting defended loosely at that one, hung his bat out as it moved away, got an inside edge to chop it onto the stumps 98/4
47.1 given out lbw and Clarke has called for a review, short of a good length and it kept low while aimed at middle and leg, Clarke got on the back foot and was struck on the knee roll, the only doubt there was whether it would go on to hit leg stump. It did move in a bit. It would have hit leg stump, as Eagle Eye confirms and the original decision is upheld. 173/6
29.6 Gone, Morkel removes the nightwatchman, probing him outside off this time, angled in and he flirted with it, it may have moved away, took the nick, if only a slight one but that's all that matters, and AB took it comfortably 103/5
57.2 Hussey goes and Morkel strikes at the stroke of lunch! Banged in short just outside off and Hussey went for the pull, it came on to him quick and he ended up getting a top edge and spooning an easy catch to midwicket 206/7
63.2 Wade goes! Full outside off and Wade is sucked into the drive, tries to hit it through extra cover, gets a feather as it moves away a bit and AB takes a dolly 220/8

20.6 Four down! Alviro's gone, tight line outside off from Siddle again, Alviro got forward, not the first time he's got an inside edge, this time it goes back onto the stumps, a little outside the line to that one as he played forward and he's dragged it onto the stumps 45/4
0.6 edged and gone, big wicket and Australia have struck immediately, round the wicket, angling in towards the off and gets it to move away just a little, Smith plays at it, gets a thick edge and is caught by Ponting at second slip, what a blow 3/1
11.3 Lyon strikes! Amla was playing for the turn there, but it went on straight, tossed up outside off and he drove at it, got a thick edge and Clarke took it at slip, a bit of a juggle but he held his nerve 36/2
19.5 Caught at short leg, Rudolph is staying his ground, his innings had stagnated after he picked up a couple off his first delivery. Tossed up by Lyon from round the wicket on leg stump, landed on leg and Rudolph closed the face on that one, straight to Cowan at short leg who was alert, he bent low and reacted quick to his left to snap that one. The umpires called for a replay to check if the ball hit the ground on its way to Cowan, since the bat was very close to the ground at the time the shot was played. But replays show it was clean, went straight off the bat and into Cowan's hands 45/3
88.6 Siddle strikes! No reviewing that one, what a delivery, he was getting the ball to move about and beat AB through the gate there, nipped back, the previous deliveries had left him, landed on a good length, AB took a half-stride forward and defended a little outside the line as it jagged back in to peg back off stump 134/5

137.5 caught, caught off a full toss, Steyn goes! It's a packed on-side field, there's a midwicket, silly mid-on, a leg gully, that was a full toss on middle and he pushed it uppishly into the leg side, Quiney's alert and he dives forward, dives low and picks it inches from the ground at midwicket. South Africa are seven down 234/7
143.6 Siddle has got him! Manages to somehow come up with a yorker off the final ball of that over, an inswinging yorker and Kleinveldt had no answer to that one, missed and the stumps took a beating. Australia still have a chance, they still do 240/8
