Handshakes all round as the two teams appreciate each other's efforts. The batting again let Bangladesh down. Some adrenalin rush as ever and the starts were wasted. It has been an good tight contest, though and was good to watch. Shahadat had a great match, picking up nine wickets in the game but he would be disappointed by the effort of his batsmen. SA would be relieved they have sewed this one up and happy that their batsmen adapted to the conditions better in the second innings.

Ashraful: "The boys played well. I think we needed 50 or 60 runs more. We should have scored 250+ in the first innings. Shahadat bowled really well on this kind of track."

Smith: It was a hard-fought game and I am very happy. Our batting let us down in the first innings but when the pressure was on and it really counted the boys played well in the second innings. It has taken some time to get used to the conditions here and they showed in the second innings that they have done that. It augurs well for the second Test and the Indian series coming up.' Smith goes on to praise Boucher and the young fast bowlers.

Man of the Match: Jacques Kallis for his 5 for 30. "It's nice to contribute with the ball. I put them in the right areas and got some reverse swing. The guys have been to subcontinent before and it's a learning curve for the young fast bowlers."

That's it from us. Bye!

Mohammad Rafique to Boucher, 1 run

Game over. SA win the first Test. Short and outside off, cut past point. This is the highest run-chase by South Africa in the subcontinent.

loud shout for lbw and that looked close. Another armer and Boucher was beaten on the forward prod. It would have hit the stumps but Bucknor doesn't think so. Ashraful had already started to celebrate but ....

One run to win.

the scores are level. Shahadat grunts at the release, goes for a yorker but sends down a low full toss which is drilled past mid-on

66.5
Shahadat to de Villiers, no run

stifled appeal for lbw as Shahadat realises there was an inside edge. Another reverse swinging delivery from just outside off and de Villiers stabs it away

66.4
Shahadat to de Villiers, no run

comes in towards the middle and off line and is pushed on the up to mid-on. de Villiers then practises that same shot, perhaps he wants to hit it straighter

66.3
Shahadat to de Villiers, no run

length delivery outside off stump, comes in a touch but de Villiers gets into a great position - back and across- and punches it to covers.

Shahadat to de Villiers, FOUR runs

Nahim has a response to that Daily Star article: "I find the "Ashraful is deluded" article quite baffling. Bangladesh just turned in its best Test display in well over two years. Yet instead of counting our blessings here we are criticising some random comments made at a press conference. Perhaps a positive attitude is what's missing from Bangladesh cricket today, from the players and media alike."

slipping down the leg side, off the pads and Rahim moves to his left to make the stop and Shahadat applauds that effort. The fifth delivery was the best of the over; the line and the length was perfect

64.5
Shahadat to Boucher, no run

fuller, nice probing delivery just outside off and shaping in, Boucher does well to get his front foot moving and defends with the full face of the bat.

another length delivery on the stumps, worked to the on side.
