Te Beeste carves second comprehensive victory for Netherlands

Pauline te Beeste made a magnificent 90 off 117 balls to guide Netherlands to their second thumping victory over Pakistan women in the 7-match one-day series, being played at the National Stadium, Karachi.

Requiring 157 to win the match, Netherlands women romped home in 39.5 overs with 6 wickets to spare, with te Beeste and van Leeuwan (18 off 35 balls, 1 four) leading the way with a 77-run second wicket partnership.

Te beeste then added 47 for the 3rd wicket with her skipper Salomons before getting out just 10 short of what would have been the first century of the series.

Salomons remained not out on 21 off 47 balls and Toussaint had got one before the required runs were knocked off in the 40th over.

Earlier, Pakistan won the toss for the 6th time in as many matches and put the opposition into bat for the first time in the series.

The decision seemed right at first as the opening pair of Zehmurad Afzal and Rabia Khan added 47 for the first wicket in 9.5 overs.

Netherlands met their first success when Jharap, the right-arm fast medium bowler, accounted for the in-form Zehmurad for 20 (38 balls, 1 four). Rabia Khan made 18 (32 ball, 2 fours) before being run out at the total of 59 in the 15th over.

Shiaza Khan, the skipper, faced just two balls before being caught by Toussaint off Van Leeuwan for naught. After that, all resistance in the home team's batting line up just withered out, with wickets falling at regular intervals.

Only two of the remaining batswomen - Khursheed Jabeen and Mahewish Khan - could reach into double figures, before the whole team was bundled out for paltry 156 in 49.4 overs.

Salomons, the Dutch skipper, used nine bowlers during the innings and all of them proved almost equally generous in giving away extra runs. At the end of Pakistan innings the scoreboard showed 64 extras, of which 56 were wides.

Te Beeste was the most successful bowler for the visitors getting 2 for 11 in 3 overs. H Rambaldo also claimed two wickets for 13 in 5 overs. Jharap, van Leeuwen and Salomons got one wicket each.

Te Beeste hit two consecutive boundaries in Kiran Baluch's 5th over to bring up her fifty, the second of the series, in 74 balls, which contained in all nine hits to the fence.

The hundred of the Netherlands innings came up in 25 overs, when Sajjida Shah bowled a leg side wide.

Te Beeste was duly awarded the player of the match after her magnificent effort with the bat.

The last match of the series will be played under lights on Saturday, April 21.
