That's all she wrote! Yorker into the base of middle stump, stumps akimbo, Meredith wins it and finishes with 4 for 9 from 17 deliveries, the best figures of the season so far. Brilliant from him, brilliant from Chris Green. The Aussies have come up trumps for the Welsh. And David Payne, of course. Originals will feel they've botched it but Fire dug deep to claim their first win of the campaign
Fire vs Originals, 12th Match at Cardiff, Men's Hundred, Aug 13 2025 - Match Result
9:26pm With that result, Originals now drop to bottom of the group. They've got a lot of questions, particularly around their misfiring overseas batters. Can Welsh Fire use this as a springboard? We'll find out soon enough. For now, cheers for your company. Join us tomorrow for London Spirit against Trent rockets.
9:24pm Yep, here he is! Chris Green, Meerkat Match Hero:
"The last two games have been an amazing atmosphere. We came close to a miracle win last time in Cardiff and it was great to reward their support with the win tonight."
[ON THEIR 137 FOR 8] The message got back (during the first innings) from Tom Abell that he thought 140 was defendable. We bowled well, took early wickets. I thought Riley Meredith was outstanding up front and I think he should be standing here. Any time you can have someone bowling high 80s, it puts that element of fear in the batter's minds. I'm very glad he's on my team and I don't have to face him.
[FIRST WIN] It's huge. Tonight was closer to a polished performance. I think we've got a good blueprint to be successful here. The vibe among this group is great, we'll keep having fun and enjoying our cricket.
9:22pm Bear in mind Chris Green also struck an important 19 from 9 at the end of Fire's innings to take them to 137 for 8, along with two important grabs. Meerkat honours incoming, surely...
Rapido! Blitzed through at 88mph, right over the top of the stumps, as Baker backs away
26 off 5... Meredith, 3 for 9 from his 15, with his last five...
Slow again, bunted back down to long on
Fielder brought in to the circle, only four outside, given the time violation but no one cares
Slowed up, sits in the deck, defended into the off side
Sonny Baker, you may as well come down
Length, heaved... and Green's taken a brilliant catching back-peddling into a dive! Just a foot or so away from the sponge when he lands. A full night out for the Australian, doing party tricks now having settled the game with his bowling.
Sits up, dabbed to point, single taken
Scuffed into the off side
Four wickets have fallen for four runs... here's Josh Tongue as Payne bowls through
Short, pulled.. but spooned back to Payne! Currie completely botches the pull and ends up toeing back to Payne, who tumbles forward to take the catch
Hung out wide, slow at 66mph, Noor Ahmad bunts out to deep cover
Fire now doing this at a canter... 31 needed from 12. Noor Ahmad is the new batter
Taken by Walter! Easy as you like, Hartley charges and it's held out wide, throws the bat but can only scuff across the line, taken at mid on. By no means a clean catch but it's taken!
Swing and a miss! Excellent from Payne, pace off - not all that much at 69mph - but enough to get the cut going with a bit of bounce as Hartley finds air
Full, straight, lifted high... but falls in no man's land at mid on, with the fielder set back and mid off very wide...
That, really, should be that. Hartley and Currie at the crease needing 32 from 15... David Payne to bowl this next set
No matter! Green takes out the two in-batters, both at cow corner as Abell nestles under a real skier that hangs in the air for an age. Calm as you like. What an over
Into the pitch hard, sits up and hammered out to midwicket where Abell fields.... but Hartley is heading back for the second as the throw come sin... Green collects but throws to the keeper's end instead of his own which would have had Hartley dead in the water!
Tight to the stumps, length again, but doesn't bounce. Gregory tries to do what Buttler could not and find the boundary out to deep midwicket but ends up wearing it on the inside thigh
Length, outside off, Hartley cuts off a thick edge to short third and gets called through for the single by Gregory
35 needed from 19 as Tom Hartley comes out to face his Lancashire teammate...
Short, sits up... and lands in the hands of deep midwicket! What a huge wicket that is, Abell with the catch. Buttler is livid. That really should have made it into the stands but he just snatched at it a touch. Good composure from Abell and Green is PUMPED
Chris Green with his last five. Originals hunting 35 from the remaining 20...
Nice finish, pace off, angled in, grips a bit, Gregory's attempt to launch down the ground finds nothing but air
Follows him again, cuts firmly but straight to Kohler-Cadmore at cover
Gregory has come to the party! An advancing slap over mid off, Walter slows it down and Gregory holds his nerve and executes a flamingo strike over extra cover
