Kuldeep is run-out at the striker's end! Game over, as Australia win by 21 runs, and take the series 2-1. Kuldeep skipped out of his crease, as Stoinis went short around off. Kuldeep swatted, but the ball ended to Stoinis' left, who moved well to cut that off. Kuldeep was halfway down the pitch, as Stoinis threw. Kuldeep tried to rush back, but fell well short, as Carey came forward to collect the throw and whip the bails off
India vs Australia, 3rd ODI at Chennai, IND v AUS, Mar 22 2023 - Match Result
Australia lift the trophy after working hard tonight as their last three wickets added 66, before the bowlers also delivered on a slow, sticky pitch. But overall, the fact that 11 batters out of the top seven across both sides fell after getting set showed that it wasn't easy to bat. Anyway, Monga's report is up for browsing through, as we sign off from India's home season of international cricket in 2022-23. Goodnight and goodbye from Raghav, Monga and me, Himanshu!
Cricsam: "Smith's captaincy is the main difference between the two sides"
Steven Smith, the series-winning captain: "It has been an enjoyable tour. The way we fought back after that (Delhi) Test match. It is just playing conditions for us. This wicket was different... I thought we left a few out there. It was just a really good performance. We continued taking wickets throughout... The way the tail stuck around and got us to 270; at one point, we weren't getting to 220"
Mitchell Marsh is the Player of the Series for 194 runs: "It is just natural aggression when I'm batting. Growing up at the WACA... I have thouroughly enjoyed it. I was really glad that I could come in and perform. I'm coming off an extended break. Sometimes in international cricket, you need time to do that. I have come fresh, and provided energy"
Adam Zampa is the Player of the Match for his 4 for 45: "I have had some success here. It is a tough place to come; always a huge challenge. I have had some reward... Ashton Agar changed the game. I don't think I deserve this tonight. Kudos to the guys who bowled before me as well. We had trust in each other, in our process and in our game plan."
Rohit Sharma speaks first: "I don't think it was too many runs. The wicket was a little challenging towards the second half. I don't think we batted well. Partnerships are crucial, and we failed to do that today. The mode of dismissals... you are born and brought up on these wickets. Sometimes you need to apply yourself, and give yourself a chance. It was important for one batter to carry on and take the game deep. But all of us were trying our best; it just didn't happen. The nine ODIs we have played since January, we can take a lot of positives from that. It is a collective failure. In five months' time, we'll be playing in these conditions. You've got to give credit to the Australians as well."
Time for the presentations
Sean Daniel: "Adam Zampa MOM with his bowling figures plus some useful runs down the order"
Manthan Jain: "Men in yellow winning in Chennai" --- Except that the crowd wouldn't ideally cheer for it today
Ashton Agar, who took two wickets: "There was plenty in the pitch for me. Mitch said 250 would be a good total. He said it was starting to get slow, and turn. Shubman and Rohit started well, but it got harder and harder. Zampa and I are great mates. It paid off for us today."
Pritam: "This game is eerily similar to the series decider 5th ODI between Ind and Aus in 2019"
10.09pm Well played, Australia. They decided to bat, confident that the pitch would be at its best batting first. And after posting 269, their bowlers hit back in the middle overs to first crack the game open, and then break through the wall to seal the win. India lost 4 for 43 after Kohli and Rahul had put on 69, and that was enough to derail them. That collapse included a needless loft from Kohli, when all he should have done was to ensure he bats till the end, especially with Pandya motoring along at the other end. Hang around for the presentations.
good bounce off a shortish length outside off, as he looks to push but is beaten
looks to scoop, but this ball is too short for that, as it angles in to end on top of middle
short ball angling in, and pulled on the bounce to long-on
gets his front leg out of the way to this length ball on the stumps, and drags it to long-on
good length ball angles in and goes over the stumps, as he slashes and misses
Srini: "Six, Siraj. Six!"
opens the bat face to push this length ball outside off to deep third
Abbott from around the wicket
Wow, how did the ball reach that far? Stoinis isn't happy, as he stands with arms aloft. Warner at mid-off rushed across to his right, and tried to pull the ball back last moment. There is a boundary check, and not given. The ball was full and just outside off, as Siraj bashed it back to mid-off's right. Was timed nicely though
Siraj the last man
the fun has ended! Shami looks for one more, but sees his off stump disturbed. Stoinis went much fuller this time, and on off. The ball went on straight after pitching, as Shami hoicked across the line after getting his front leg out of the way, but was beaten
Vinod Rajpal: "@Amit, he heard you"
flashed to deep third! The man there was inside the circle, and he got one short and wide of off. So Shami hacked it aerially and over him. He actually did well to play that quite late
swings a six over fine leg! A six with a swivel. On a good length, and angling into middle and leg. He got his front leg out of the way, and pulled away for six
shorter side of a length outside off. Poked to deep point after making room
short and wide of off. Swatted down the pitch, as long-off rushes to his right to take it on the bounce
Stoinis back
deep third cuts it off to his left, as Shami is squared up by this good length ball outside off which also angles away. He opens the bat face to run that down
Amit: "Six, Shami. Six"
makes room, and Starc bowls a yorker outside off. Flat-batted towards deep point
fires a yorker on off, and is squeezed out well
good length ball, shaping in to end outside leg. Pushed to cover
yorker angled into off at 142kph, as he jams that to point's left. Smith there - he is everywhere - throws at the striker's end
Alex: "Australia's depth saved them this time"
full on off, and tucked to cover almost closing the bat face
Starc around the wicket
sweeps this full ball on leg to short fine. Zampa finishes with 4 for 45
