Clipped over wide midwicket and Nawaz, the debutant, wins it for Pakistan. Punishes the missed yorker with an aerial flick flat in the gap. No one in the infield there
West Indies vs Pakistan, 1st ODI at Tarouba, WI vs PAK, Aug 08 2025 - Match Result
Quite a lovely game that. Ebbed and flowed, had a few turning points before conditions - despite not playing out as expected - had a definitive say. WI could still have pulled out a close win but it wasn't to be. Great signs for the series and a good advert for ODIs this. Danyal's report will be up here soon, do check it out. We'll see you back in a couple of days. On behalf of him and our scorers, Thilak Ram and Harshith Gowda, it's goodbye for now.
Mohammad Rizwan, Pakistan captain Hussain and Hasan deserve full credit. We had some doubts about selection due to the clouds, the whole match could've been washed out. We didn't take advantage of the new ball. Shaheen was good at the death bowling. Our bowling needs to improve, WI batted in tough conditions. The ball gripped but we couldn't restrict them till the death. (Law change - keeping one ball after 34 overs) Bowlers were really happy as the ball reversed late. It was a different feeling and a fun one at it.
Shai Hope, WI captain Tough to play in conditions like this, toss had a big part. Maybe we could've got more runs. The spin threat they have, we have to find ways to negate that. Credit to our bowlers for fighting at the end. We needed to score more in the middle overs. It was challenging but we understood how it'd be late in the game with the wet ball. We needed a cushion and didn't get it. Motie kept things tight, nice to see Chase do some damage. But all in all, we're still one step behind.
Hasan Nawaz, POTM I believed in myself. Knew I could finish here like I do at the PSL. The plan was to stitch partnerships. At the start, the spinners were great, but once the dew came in it got easier. I was fully confident I could clear the boundary. The plan with Hussain was for him to charge the spinners and me to take on the pacers and it came out nicely.
Sam L: "Surely MoM for Nawaz. If PAK had lost wickets in the final 10, it would have been game over. Great to see an ODI with scores below 300 :)"
Ravi: "It will be very interesting to see who gets man of the match. Will it be Nawaz for his steady 60 on debut, or will it be one of the established pair of Afridi or Naseem?"
10:23pm Big smiles on Rizwan, Babar's faces as they congratulate the unbeaten pair. They turned a chase that looked all but gone. Dew aided them as did a dropped catch but for two inexperienced batters to move the chase after losing their captain is quite the feat. WI were ahead for a large part of the chase. Seales was excellent up top. Touch unlucky to not have more. Blades was raw, didn't find his line but was better at the death. Babar and Shafique saw off a tough period before the latter fell to a nip-backer from Shamar. Babar then eased along with Rizwan before being undone by a pearler from Motie. Motie was great but had a lesser impact after dew. Chase was brought in late and didn't have much of a role. The ones and twos kept coming as Salman got a start too. Pakistan got four forty-plus stands in the end, the last one was 104.
Talat wanted two, sent back. Good call. Was a low full toss that was driven to sweeper cover. Scores tied
This should be done within this over
Full on middle, 143ks, whipped to deep midwicket
Wide and fullish. Over the tramline but Nawaz it just outside off as he slashes and misses. Hence, not given wide. Scratch that, it is still wide
That should be the decisive blow. The wristiest of drives from Nawaz, rubbery wrists, takes the full ball from the stumps and deposits it downtown
Shuffles to fourth stump, stays in the crease and drives to long-off. 10 off 11 needed
Plan's to bowl wide, the full ball is close to the return crease though. Talat was on fifth stump but still well out of reach. Leaves it
Shamar to close out. 12 needed off 12. There'll be a ball change. The dew has taken reverse swing out of the equation, but man, that drop could be decisive. Will the newer ball make a difference? Around the wicket
Shin-high full toss on fourth. Talat cleared his front leg and looked to drive over cover, got a thick edge to deep point
Over the wicket
High-ish full toss goes away with the angle through fifth, steered to deep-backward point who's a touch fine.... And a no-ball is called on-field. Touch and go but probably the right call in the end
Drives it with an open face to deep point
Carved behind point.... it's cleared the fence! Amazing, given that was a slower ball. Just 16 needed off 14 now. Shortish ball just outside off, Talat standing tall and swinging hard
Ends the boundary drought with a scoop. Got side on and was on the move, left foot was close to the off-side tramline as he was adjusting. Blades went for the wide yorker, bowled a low full toss and Talat was behind it
Wide on a length, slashes it on the bounce to long-off
Full and wide, swing and a miss
DaWolf: "Nearly a wicket for the new slip immediately! Shelled it." Short third but yeah
Motie drops a dolly, Seales squats in disbelief. Bread-basket catch goes right through the cupped palms. Anticlimactic way to get to fifty for Nawaz. Was a full slower ball just outside off, Nawaz opened the bat face fully and wanted to slice it. Got it too fine. Maybe it's the dew playing tricks, maybe it's just pressure
Wide on a length, slices a cut to deep point
Hides it outside off to beat the bat awing. Talat's back foot is on fourth stump, the stance is closed though and Talat swipes across without reaching it
Short third parries it and deep third is fine. Just the single. Length ball outside off, Nawaz opening the face fully
Massive swing and a miss. Nawaz winding up big, getting on one knee and looking to launch it over long-off. Problem was he was on off and the fullish ball was around sixth. Too far from him
Length around fifth, gets across to off and cuts to deep point
Slip now in. Around
