Bangladesh have gone on a victory lap of honour here. Thanking their fans. They haven't won the World Cup yet, though. Just shows how rare success at international level is for them that a win against Afghanistan is celebrated thusly

A comprehensive win for Bangladesh in response to their defeat at the hands of Afghanistan last year. The WC debutatnts began promisingly but Bangladesh were patient and waited for the inexperience to show. Mushfiqur and Shakib turned the game around with their fifties, and then the bowlers sealed the deal. That's all we have for you today. Thanks for joining us

"It's a great feeling," says Mushfiqur Rahim, the Man of the Match. "Credit also goes to openers. They didn't get the runs, but it is not that easy up front. They faced out important overs. Thanks to the crowd. My father is here, my uncle is here, it is a great moment.""Definitely first match is important and we have set the tone," says Mashrafe Mortaza. "We had a reasonable start today. Mushy and Shakib were brilliant. That kind of match where you have some pressure. I am happy we adapted. And thank you all the supporters."

"First 35 overs we bowled well," says Mohammad Nabi. "Especially fast bowlers. Mushfiq and Shakib played very well and took the score to 260. We lost too manyb wickets early, but Nawroz and Sami batted well. Not a good start in the World Cup. We hope to play well in the next match. Thanks to the crowd and to people back home."

Shakib to Aftab Alam, OUT

a run-out to end the match. The fervour with which Mushfiqur has broken the wicket shows how much it means to Bangladesh. A lot of confusion after the dive at cover-point. No time for Aftab to get back. I am surprised Mushfiq is not injured after violently breaking the wicket. A lot of anger on his face too

Sakeeb Ferdous: "Nobody knows better than Mushfiqur Rahim as to how painful it was to suffer a 32-run defeat in their first ODI against Afghanistan at the Fatullah Cricket Stadium in March last year. That was one of the many crucial reasons behind him losing his ODI captaincy. But today, Mashrafe Mortaza must be very happy, as well as the whole Bangladesh. "

another big hit as Shakib tosses this wide outside off. This is clever bowling. Tailenders just go after them. No timing on this. Caught at long-off
