Clears the cover boundary but it's Patidar who's charging with a smile! Kohli has his head in the ground, he's thrilled when's back up. Has many of his team-mates hugging. The party won't end tonight!
RCB vs PBKS, Final at Ahmedabad, IPL, Jun 03 2025 - Match Result
18th time is indeed the charm. RCB pull it off finally, it's a dream that's evaded them regularly, but the dream is now reality. The whole city will live it tonight and cherish it forever. Thanks for joining us on the journey. It's goodbye from me, Ekanth, Ashish, our scorers Chandan Duorah and Ranjith P and everyone on the ESPNcricinfo team. Goodnight and take care.
Karthik Krishnaswamy's Match Report: Kohli and RCB are finally IPL champions
Patidar walks onto the stage and collects the trophy from Roger Binny and Jay Shah. The phones are out among the crowd. Virat Kohli leads the team on the stage. 3-2-1 and there's athe big cheer as RCB lift the trophy, off go the fireworks and the confetti. The smiles couldn't be bigger. Kohli kisses the trophy and lifts it high, his 18-year wait ends. He hands it to Salt, everyone gets around him as he lifts it. They're taking turns as the photographers continue their busy night. In walk Andy Flower, Dinesh Karthik and the coaching staff as the celebrations and the fireworks continue. They walk to the Champions tag, Kohli roars his heart out as does everyone else. The support staff joins in too. Will be a long night there, likely a parade in Bangalore tomorrow. Chris Gayle and AB de Villiers join for a picture on the podium too.
Rajat Patidar, RCB captain: It is really special for me, for Virat Kohli, and all the fans. Those who have supported for years, they all deserve it. After the Qualifier, we thought that we can go through. I think 190 was a good score on this track as it was a bit slow. Bowlers executing their plans was tremendous to watch. Krunal is a wicket-taking bowler, I look for him whenever we need wickets. Suyash and the pacers were good all season. Shepherd gave the key wicket tonight. It's a great opportunity for me and a great learning for me to captain Kohli, he deserves it more than anyone else. I just want to say one line to all the fans - Ee sala cup namdu
Royal Challengers Bengaluru get the winners' cheque of INR 20 crores. Patidar then goes for the interview
Shreyas Iyer, PBKS captain: Dejected, but the way our came up to the occasion... a lot of credit goes to the management and each and every player. Considering the last game we played here, I felt 200 was par personally. They bowled excellently. Krunal was phenomenal, used his experience, that was the turning point. Proud of each individual in our team, a lot of youngsters played their first season. Their fearlessness was phenomenal. Job is still half done, we have to win it next year. The way we turned up to every game was a positive, they've gained a lot of experience and we can build on that next year.
Punjab Kings get the runners-up cheque for INR 12.5 crores. Shreyas Iyer collects that and the shield.
Prasidh Krishna wins the Purple cap for taking 25 wickets this season
Kamindu Mendis' specky to dismiss Dewald Brevis is the catch of the season
Sai Sudharsan also wins the award for most fours (88) in the season too
Nicholas Pooran wins the award for most sixes, 40, hit this season. Romario Shepherd collects the trophy on his behalf.
B Sai Sudharsan wins the orange cap for scoring 759 runs across IPL 2025
Krunal Pandya, POTM: When we batted, we realised the slower you bowl the better it is. In this format, you need guts to do it. I just backed myself, thought I'll vary my pace and keep it on the slower side more often. My biggest strength has been to learn what the situation requires. I knew I had to be brave to get wickets tonight. Thought I'd do that by bowling slow. If you'd have bowled quick, it'd have been a good wicket. But if you mixed it up it was tougher. Pitch actually got easier in the second innings. Have enjoyed my time with RCB so far, I said on day one I wanted to win. I told Hardik too that the Pandya household will have nine trophies in 11 years.
12:08am: Time for the presentation.
The floodlights are off, just the ones stands are lit up. Can't see the crowd but surely, most of them will remain. Kohli's doing an interview with Star Sports. De Villiers and Gayle are in too, they go 'Ee sala cup namdu' in unison.
11:46pm: RCB's players are with the trophy, etching the team on it. They've got there by defending an arguably under-par total. Bhuvi, Hazlewood created early chances that were dropped. But PBKS couldn't get going. Dayal was economical, but it was when Krunal came on that the game changed. He dismissed Prabhsimran and Romario dismissed Shreyas in his first over. Krunal continued to choke the runs, Inglis tried to keep the tempo going but fell, also to Krunal, who fired the ball in. Wadhera had a horror night and RCB tied him up proper, Stoinis fell cheaply and Shashank couldn't get going until it was too late. Bhuvi nailed his yorkers nearly every time at the death. Dayal gave away five in the 18th. Hazlewood bowled two dots in the 20th and that was it.
Virat Kohli: This win is as much for the fans as it is for the team. It's been 18 long years. I've given this team my youth, prime and experience. I've tried to win it every season, gave it everything I have. To finally have it is an unbelievable feeling. Never thought this day would come, I was overcome with emotion after the last ball was bowled. Gave each and every ounce of my energy and it's an amazing feeling. What ABD has done for the franchise is tremendous, told him 'this win is as much yours as it is ours. I want you to celebrate with us'. He's been the POTM most times in the franchise despite being retired for four years. Tells you the impact he's had on the league, team and me. He deserves to be on the podium, lifting the cup. (1/4)
[Where do you put that in terms of the scale of monumental moments in your career?] Well, it's right up there, if I have to be honest. As I said, I've given everything that I had for the last 18 years. I've stayed loyal to this team, no matter what. I've had moments where I thought otherwise, but I stuck to this team. I stood behind them, they stood behind me. And I always dreamt of winning it with them. And this is far more special than winning it with anyone else because my heart is with Bangalore, my soul is with Bangalore. And as I said, this is the team I'm going to play for till the last day that I play the IPL. So this one is absolutely right up there because you know, as a sportsman, when you grind for something, and this is a very high intensity, high quality tournament, which is of great value in world cricket today. And I'm someone that wants to win the big tournaments, the big moments, and this one was missing. And tonight, I'm going to sleep like a baby. (2/4)
[On what inspires him] Well, I have an opportunity to play this game for not many years. So there is an end date to our career, as you know. And by the time that I hang up my boots, I want to sit at home and say I gave it everything I had. So I look for ways to improve. I can't play as an impact player, I want to feel 20 overs and make an impact in the field. That's the kind of player I have been. And God's blessed me with that perspective, with the talent. And then you find different ways to help the team. This management, this group of players has been outstanding, to be honest. They've gotten the right kind of players, match winners, people who take the game on. In the auction, a lot of people questioned our tactics. But by day two, we were very happy with what we had. And we had a lot of confidence in the strength of this group. And I want to give a big shout out to this team. It would not have been possible without each and every one in the squad, in the playing XI, the management backing the players, keeping us positive throughout when the going got tough. So it's everyone's. I don't want to stand here and talk about myself. There's a lot that's spoken about me already. This win is for Bangalore. And it's for each and every one of the players, and the families, and the whole management as well. (3/4)
[On his retirement from Test cricket] You know, this moment is right up there with the best moments I've had in my career. But it still marks five levels under Test cricket. That's how much I value Test cricket. And that's how much I love Test cricket. So I would just urge the youngsters coming through, to treat that format with respect. Because if you perform in Test cricket, you walk around anywhere in the world, people look you in the eye and shake your hand and say, well done, you played the game really well. So if you want to earn respect in World cricket all over, take up Test cricket, give your heart and soul to it. And when you walk out with wonders the other side, then you gain respect to the cricket world with legends like yourself. Melting our hearts on the field and off the field. (4/4)
Mahendra: "Kudos to RCB fans. Irrespective of the results they loyally stood with their team. Definitely a party night for them."
Mustafa Moudi : "Yash Dayal is a Lucky Charm - Won in 2022, Finalist in 2023, in Playoffs in 2024 and Again Champion in 2025 !!"
Ravi: "Stepping aside from Kohli, ABD and may be DK...Big kudos to Rajat Patidar. It has been a no mean feat first time as captain of a team under the shadow of a world class player like Kohli and taking them to lift the trophy first time ever."
Satish: "Crackers have lit up Bengaluru "
Mayank Agarwal: Life is very unpredictable. If you can stay put, keep grinding, it can turn.
Jitesh Sharma: I can't express myself at the moment. I am very happy for Virat bhai. He has waited to 18 years and I can understand what he can feel. When you feel this tournament for someone else, it becomes magical. When you play for yourself, you become a bit subdued. But when playing for someone else, it becomes great.
Dinesh Karthik: Massive. It's a team that's waited 18 years, had to wait a long time. ABD, Kohli, all tried their hearts out. Support staff too. We believed from the start we were good. Had all bases covered. Was great that everyone stepped up at different situations. Got above par tonight, batters felt it wasn't easy. But final wasn't about the pitch, we needed fire in the belly and had it. Andy Flower pulled us through the ringer, he's groomed me, Mo Bobat had a plan and a vision. It fell into place, amazing effort from the boys.
Phil Salt: It's an unbelievable feeling. I don't know where I am at the moment. I have not slept. [On being a father] I have got a luck charm now. Over the moon, mate. [Fans] Everywhere we got, we are the best supported team. It's a big fan base. AB is here, Chris is here. It's unbelievable. Thanks for supporting. You have won more games for us than you think.
Josh Hazlewood: I think 190 was a good score, wicket was up and down. May have gotten better in the second innings. Everyone chipped in. Means everything to Kohli, to be there from the start and get the result tonight will bring out a lot of emotion. (Coming back the right decision?) Absolutely, won't get better experience than this.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar: We knew the wicket will not be easy and 190 would not be easy. It was 10 more than what we thought. [On Krunal] his spell changed the scenario for us. Change of pace was not easy, but we thought we would not over-use it.
Kasinathan: "More than anything it is Krunal's spell that turned the match RCB 's way. Well bowled"
Uzair jamal: "omggg why am I cryingggg"
11:24pm: 18 years it's taken and RCB finally have a cup. The men add it to the women, who did it last year! Fireworks go off, every team member and support staff member is savouring it all. AB de Villiers is getting it all on record. Krunal can't stop roaring, Kohli's got one too. Leaps into Salt's arms. Finally, there's AB de Villiers running in, giving Kohli a big hug.
Final ball
Slot ball at the stumps, launched over midwicket. Shashank gets to fifty but it'll only be a consolation
Top-edged pull goes over the keeper. Goes to the fence but Krunal's applauding and roaring, smiles in their dugout too
Connects, too late though. Shashank shakes his head after flicking the low fully on middle over square leg
Slapped to long-off along the ground. Into mathematically-impossible territory now. And the crowd pops off, Kohli has his hands on his mouth. RCB's supporters in the stands can hardly believe it!
Gets away with a full toss! Fans go up again. Lowish full toss around leg, Shashank went across and that worked against him. Tried to help it along, missed it
Hazlewood has 29 to defend. RCB have one hand on the trophy
Another perfect yorker, Bhuvi's nearly sealed this. Fourth-stump line, Shashank jams it on its head, towards the diagonal right of the keeper for a single
Low fully on leg, can't get underneath it. Flicked through square leg, they manage two
Musavvir: "So 2025 seems to be the year for those who haven't won anything ever or won for a long time. Tottenham, Harry Kane, Crystal Palace - now RCB. Seems like SAF should clinch the test Championship! "
Spins away from Krunal at deep fine leg, he ran left, it went to his right late in the piece. Was a low full toss that was lapped
Chants at their healthiest, Kohli's beaming
Another dot, nearly done now. Bhuvi goes yorker again, gets it on middle. Shashank is a touch too far across, drills it against the angle to long-off. No run
Reversing yorker lands perfectly and sears towards off. Shashank can only jam it to the off side
Bhuvi misses the yorker and gets tonked. Seam-up, lowish full toss on fourth. Launched through the line, over long-on
42 needed off 12. Shashank or nothing for PBKS now
Tcj: "Chance for Shashank Singh to etch his name in the history books.."
GG: "Ee Sala Cup Namde"
Aj: "Bangalore is not sleeping tonight"
Yorker aimed at the pads. Not perfect but Jamieson doesn't get underneath, clips it to deep midwicket. They don't take a run!
Full toss, three-quarters of the way up the stumps. Whacked, but not off the middle, to deep square leg
Almost taken! Shepherd flies to the right from backward square leg, can only parry it off the right hand to the deep fielder. Was a shin-high full toss. Shashank got under it and tried to sweep
Full down leg, beats the flick. Goes off the pad towards square leg
Proper collapse on now! Taken at short third, the cheers from the crowd is wowing ABD. Was an 116ks cutter, full on fourth. Omarzai, with an open stance, tried to slug it over cow corner. Top edged it to short third. Bhandage, the sub fielder, takes it
Dayal confident that was lbw, not given. Went yorker on leg, landed just outside the line. Beat the leg glance, went off the pad towards fine leg
Padmaraj : "Cometh the hour, Cometh the Man - Bhuvi "
Overpitched on fourth, punched to long-off
Wide on a fullish length, driven to deep point
