he takes a step down and swats the short of length delivery to deep midwicket for one. They fall short by eight runs
MI vs RR, 32nd match at Mumbai, IPL, May 01 2015 - Match Result
11.50pm A strong comeback from Mumbai, placed second from bottom, to beat the team second from top. They batted very well, particularly in the slog overs, did not panic with the ball as Malinga and McClenaghan bowled accurate lines and struck at crucial times. But do not forget Sanju Samson's magnificent effort with the bat. He targeted the gaps, played all around the ground and unleashed audacious shots against a strong bowling line-up.
Shane Watson: Tonight would have been good to get the momentum back. When you are chasing, around 12 or more per over is always difficult and Malinga is a great death bowler. The way Samson played him, he batted incredibly, especially the last two balls of his over. You have to pick positives out of the game to make sure you win. A couple of things we need to get right and no reason why we can't.
Rohit Sharma: We're starting to peak our performance right now. Defending that score wasn't easy, but we put up a big score and it was good to see that being defended. When you start winning everything looks perfect. We were struggling to get the right balance earlier but we now know what each individual can do at what situation. We've got what we wanted. Rayudu was under pressure at the start of IPL but he delivered when the team needed him the most. When I was opening people wanted me to bat at No. 4, and now they want me to open [laughs]. It depends on the situation and what the team needs. We're open to changes but will stick to this line-up for some time.
Man of the Match Rayudu: I'd like to dedicate this innings to Mrs Sadhya, who was an employee at Trident and died due to breast cancer. I've been working really hard in the nets and trying to make the most of the opportunities. I'm trying to hold my shape and keep it going. The team's winning which is more than enough, doesn't matter where I bat. We were in the same situation last year and this year we have a better team. If the top order starts to fire we'll do well.
That's it from Wankhede, that's it from Friday as the two home teams won today. Join us again tomorrow as Saturday is a double-header too and we'll bring you all the action live right here. Until then, goodbye and good luck from Vishal D, along with Raju. Ciao!
Harshit: "RR lost it when they sent Nair ahead of Hooda and Binny, the men in better form."
Jay : "Dont no why Binny is in the team. . He should be replaced by a better all rounder abhishek nayar..."
Alok: "I think RR missed Faulkner today!"
Vikram: "Why Southee when RR had Theron!!"
Theron on strike
full delivery this time outside off, he wants to hammer it down the ground but doesn't middle it and gets a single
Two more to go, 11 runs left
another full toss, in the air again and he's caught at long-on. This was definitely over the waist, and is called no-ball. Pollard doesn't realise that and throws the ball late, which makes Southee comes back for the second. But his throw is accurate and Vinay takes the bails off casually, catching Southee's bat short despite the dive. A no ball, a run, a run out
Two sixes for the Super Over. Malinga goes from short third man to the bowler for some advice
waist-high full toss, he pulls it in the gap to midwicket region and it's a one-bounce four. He wants it called a no-ball, but not declared
Pollard and Rohit both having a chat with Vinay now
full on the stumps again, drills it down the ground and long on cuts it off
there's confusion, but no run out. Binny slammed the full delivery in the air to long on, he came back for the second, so did Southee and they both then went back in time
19 from five. They need a few boundaries...
tries the yorker and Southee drives it down to long on
Vinay for the last over. Rohit gives him some instructions and Vinay nods
Saurabh: "Loks like Royals are playing last year's script. Winning few matches on trott and then later struggle to make the final four!"
Only six from the over, that's Malinga for you under pressure. The crowd is celebrating already
comes down the track and drives it to long-off for one
again in the block hole, Southee flicks and it goes wide of short fine leg as McClenaghan chases it
he opens up his stance and digs the full delivery out to deep cover for one
almost in the block hole outside leg, flicked behind square on leg for one
Sixer Southee on strike
Jasjit: "McClenaghan has breathed life into mumbai attack! impact bowler like Zak and Mitch Johnson, well done you beauty!!!"
right on target on middle stump, pushed down to the right of cover for one
yes he tries a yorker and he gets a wicket! It wasn't 100% accurate but made Hooda lose his balance a bit, Hooda flicked it high in the air on leg, Pollard ran to his right, Chand to his left and took it comfortably
Malinga having a chat with Rohit for his last over. Fine leg goes to the boundary and third man comes in. Long-on and Long-off at the boundary. Six yorkers coming up? Now fine leg also comes in...
Eight runs and two wickets, more in Mumbai's favour now with two new batsmen
full and wide outside off, driven away from the body to deep cover for one
McClenaghan on a hat-trick
Parthiv appeals for caught behind, Mitch only turns around and asks a question and the finger goes up! Two in two! Back of length it is outside off, Nair swishes and misses. Maybe not, he got an outside edge
What a breathtaking innings from Samson, take a bow. Hooda at non-striker's end
he's holed out to long-off, the crowd is ecstatic! It was full and outside off, from back in the crease Samson lofted it straight down to long off where Suchith didn't have to move much for this catch
Third man comes in, Samson is standing well inside the crease, both legs
how, how does he do that?! Another full toss outside off, this time he lofts it effortlessly as if he chipped it to cover. But that went all the way over the ropes. What timing!
Sammy : "Watto captaincy haters... he send samson at 3 dinnt you see??"
full toss outside off, that was there to be struck, but he misses
full and wide outside off, driven to sweeper cover to rotate the strike
14 from that over
anticipates the yorker, he first comes down the track and then goes down on his knee to paddle the ball fine and up on the leg side for four! What adjustment, what audacity
