Scorecard
Surrey kept up their charge for a place in the Friends Life t20 quarter-finals by making short work of South Division leaders Hampshire at The Oval.
Hampshire, who had been beaten only once in their previous 13 matches, could not recover from losing their first four wickets for nine runs in four overs, three of them to their former player Chris Tremlett, and were eventually all out for 113 to lose by 38 runs.
Chasing a target of 152, Hampshire lost Jimmy Adams, caught behind off Yasir Arafat to the third ball of the innings and events went from bad to worse for the visitors in Tremlett's first two overs.
James Vince carved Tremlett to deep backward point where Dirk Nannes held a fine running catch, Neil McKenzie, who had already been dropped at fine leg off Nannes, was caught behind, and Sean Ervine slashed to Jason Roy at point.
Liam Dawson and Shahid Afridi, who had also been dropped in the covers off Nannes, saved Hampshire from a rout by putting on 51 in six overs for the fifth wicket. But then Afridi, who had made 36 from 26 balls with four fours and a six, was caught in the covers off Zafar Ansari.
Dawson went on to make 26, but he lost Dimitri Mascarenhas when he was run out by Roy's magnificent pick-up and throw from long on, and was then run out himself in a dreadful mix-up with Dominic Cork. Surrey had Tom Maynard to thank for steering them to a total of 151 for 5.
Maynard went to the crease when Surrey were struggling at 31 for two and shared stands of 45 in five overs and 50 in six with Rory Hamilton-Brown and Zander de Bruyn respectively.
Roy and Steve Davies had both fallen to Mascarenhas, one caught at fine leg, the other caught behind, when Maynard drove his second ball from Mascarenhas back over the bowler's head and into the pavilion for six.
He also cleared the ropes off Afridi but there was only one more boundary in his 47 off 38 balls before he was caught at mid-wicket off Cork.
