George Hebden played for Middlesex immediately before the Great War and once in the season after. His only long run in the side was in 1909 when he scored 395 runs in 28 innings, and his only hundred came in August 1914 at Old Trafford when sides were already weakened by enlistment. He served in the war as a sergeant in the Artists' Rifles OTC (wounded).
