Nagenahira v Kandurata, SLPL, 2nd semi-final, Colombo August 29, 2012

Nagenahira in final after washout

39

The Nagenahira Nagas advance to the SLPL final on round-robin results, after intermittent heavy rain forced abandonment of the second semi-final without a ball being bowled. The Kandurata Warriors, who sit one point behind the Nagas, will bemoan their luck, as the only other washout was their clash with Uva Next on Saturday, which if they had won, would have seen them through to the final on net run-rate.

The pitch was being made ready for play after showers earlier in the day, but the covers were forced back on by a heavy downpour, and regular showers after that ensured they stayed on for the duration of the evening.

The Nagas will play Uva Next in the final at the R Premadasa Stadium on Friday. Scattered thunderstorms are forecast for Colombo that evening.

This is very poor organizing !!! how come a result of a semi final decided without a ball being balled!! what if same thing happens in the final.. then Nagas would be the winners ??? Kandurata is such a exciting team.. sad to see this thing.. the rules should be changed.. otherwise SLPL will be a failure :((

@Prázäd Krîs : Good teams like Australia and India.. Im pretty sure that none of those teams will win the T20, Neither of those teams performs well recently,, India might have a chance but for Australia, the door is already closed..

  • cric_fan_ on August 30, 2012, 15:38 GMT

very unfortunate, the organizers must have had one reserved day for semi finals and finals considering the season they're playing in.

  • on August 30, 2012, 13:23 GMT

My favorite is Nagas but a semifinal shouldnt be decided on a washout...there should be a rematch...I

  • Bimalkill2u on August 30, 2012, 13:19 GMT

This is not at all accepted. From bottom of the table they came to play semifinal. This is a very bad show by the SL Organizer. Every one should boy cut SLPL.

This is the END of SLPL.

  • on August 30, 2012, 12:37 GMT

And this will surely carried upon to World cup, will a good team like Australia or India loses finals spot with these stupid calculations? Can ICC remains idle with these results? Now i guess there can be more washouts in Ceylon for the upcoming World cup.

  • on August 30, 2012, 12:37 GMT

this is not jutice, poor KW!!

  • vivek_khyati on August 30, 2012, 12:16 GMT

this is really absurd.. a serious thought for such rules is necessary.. how unfair is it on the part of kandurata warriors to lose a berth in final!! had the earlier game washed out, even wayamba could have been in the final.. but, uva next defeated the best team in tournament to reach in final.. at least to avoid such scenario in final, why cant they prepone the match at day time somewhere around 3 pm.. all the 4pm matches were completed successfully.. even they could have conducted this semifinal today at around 1 or 2 pm, so that the winning could have had some rest too before the start of final..

  • on August 30, 2012, 11:38 GMT

If the final is also washed out, then will UVA take the trophy? This is all sheer nonsense. I hope SLPL rectify this mistake atleast next season

  • NaveTheorem on August 30, 2012, 9:56 GMT

Both the teams are desevered to be in final but bad luck for KW

My favourite team is Kandurata Warriors, and to see them fall out like this is just really disappointing im sure if they were to play the semis Kandurata would have easily rolled out the Nagas.... the SLPL comity should take up this issue seriously... because they disappointed a lot of fans due to this move....

  • on August 30, 2012, 9:00 GMT

such a nonsense rule. please change it. i feel for poor kandurata. its ridiculous that weather is the ultimate decider of who plays in the final.

  • on August 30, 2012, 8:20 GMT

this decision like Grade 1 school cricket.

  • npc_cricketlover on August 30, 2012, 8:12 GMT

this is totally rubbish....u need to play the semis by having one day reserve.....knockout stages always needs reserve...even an elementry kid will know that and given tat it is played in SL where it rains reguarly not having a reserve is not an execuse...

  • paps123 on August 30, 2012, 7:50 GMT

This is shambolic organizing to say the least. How can a Semi Final be decided in this way, Surely there should be Reserve days Semi Final onwards, or even a Five over match next day or a super over. Hope this is not the way things will be in T20 World Cup as well. Who cares about the players and all this. Its all about money these days....

  • AzyS on August 30, 2012, 7:17 GMT

slpl is a great tournament and the organisers should not devalue it by such silly mistakes.. the semis and finals should have a reserve day..

  • on August 30, 2012, 6:49 GMT

Nagenahira nagas champ in first SLPL trophy.

  • acnipuna on August 30, 2012, 6:48 GMT

This is the nature of round robin system so no point of blaming SLPL

  • marasinghe on August 30, 2012, 6:47 GMT

    nagenahira will be slpl champions

  • Karnain on August 30, 2012, 5:57 GMT

What will happen if the final also gets washed out? Will Nagas again get the benefit of being table leaders or will both teams be joint winners? Then my next question is who will play in the Champions League? Will both teams be playing in that case :) lol!

  • on August 30, 2012, 5:45 GMT

it wil b a shameful end 2 SLPL,if 2 finalists of SLPL share the trophy....bcoz 1 of SLPL team wil go n play the champions league, this is truly unfair, they shud hav reserv days 4 semifinals n finals....now wat wil happen 2 t20 world cup i dunno....i hope the weather stays clear

  • sutharun on August 30, 2012, 5:11 GMT

i don't like this stupid decision!!!!!!!!!!!

  • on August 30, 2012, 4:58 GMT

But there should be a fair rule other than this. See Table Top Wayamba was beaten by Uva.

  • on August 30, 2012, 4:04 GMT

SLPL is an awfully shorter tournament compares to IPL,the tournament was scheduled to play in the middle of the rainy season in Sri Lanka so the teams should have been given the liberty of having a second knock out match in case of a wash out.

  • MelbourneMiracle on August 30, 2012, 3:33 GMT

Whether it is Kadurata Vs Nagas or Uva Vs Nagas, the ultimate champs are Nagas! No team can steal the championship from them....Nagas is the best! Better than the rest!

  • satish619chandar on August 30, 2012, 3:28 GMT

What will be the rules for the finals.. It would be a shame if the finals get washed out and one team runs away with trophy.. They wouldn't even have a moment to celebrate.. And, most importantly, worried about the T20 wc. Wish the weather stays clear and provides entertainment..

  • Eat_Sleep_Play_Cricket on August 30, 2012, 3:22 GMT

I havent followed much of SLPL but choosing winners based on league results is just Crazy. Look what happen in the previous SF, winners and leaders of group stages were totally outclassed by the opponent. As SINHAYA suggested there should have been atleast 5 overs a piece. Hope in future SLPL takes this into consideration for rain effected matches. CHEERS!

  • on August 30, 2012, 3:08 GMT

bad luck cannot get worse than this

  • on August 30, 2012, 2:12 GMT

they won't be able to held final match also. this is rainy season......... what will happend to t20 wc'''''

Final will be 31st. There would be extra date to accomodate semi final wash out game. Even they can use day time too. two wash out may cost Kadurata Warrious final spot.

  • on August 29, 2012, 20:18 GMT

Come on guys...this is the accepted rule in all sports. If a knockout game is not possible, the team with the highest points in the table wins, or goes through to the next round. Where have you guys been all this time? Stop acting naive
