Sri Lanka Premier League

Nagenahira Nagas v Ruhuna Royals

Nagenahira Nagas won by 5 runs (D/L method)

Andrew says the ground's looking quite empty.

Malinga, of Ruhuna: "We have a good bowling lineup. I think we can defend any total."

Mathews: "For the first few games I won't bowl because I have a knee niggle. I think 150-160 is a good score."

Toss: Ruhuna have won the toss and they will bat first. The teams will be updated shortly.

Just had a quick look at the teams. The foreign players for Nagenahira are Ahmed Shehzad, Mushfiqur, Travis Birt and Ben Laughlin. For Ruhuna - Afridi, Wahab Riaz, Aaron Finch, Daniel Harris.

Andrew Fernando, our man in Colombo, writes on the significance of the SLPL from the point of view of Sri Lanka Cricket.

Azeem writes from USA: "So excited that the Pakistani players are taking part in this league. The worst part about watching the IPL for fans of Pakistan was the exclusion of our players."

Nuwan writes: "Well Mathews is cool and brave captain i know that, but interesting to see how Malinga handle the his team and how he choose his 4 overs.... All the best for both teams and SLPL."

Sumit: "I hope sri lanka come up with a more competitive team with good local players than what they have in previous champion leagues because there's no prize for guessing where the ipl players will play. The salary of an ipl star player is more than the cost of an entire SLPL franchise so i hope the local talent shines because Sri Lanka deserve to have a good representative."

3.15pm: Good day everyone and let's welcome cricket's latest Twenty20 league, the Sri Lanka Premier League. Should have happened last year, but it didn't materialise. It has now. It kicks off with a double-header at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. First up is Ruhuna Royals v Nagenahira Nagas. At 8pm is Basnahira Cricket Dundee (!) v Kandurata Warriors. I'm around for both, and so is Andrew Fernando, who's at the glass box at Khettarama.

Toss should happen soon. In the meantime, if you want to familiarise yourself with the squads, click here.

The SLPL didn't happen last year because of the absence of Indian players. Well, not that things have changed. The Indians aren't around this year as well. I mean the players. As far as the sponsors are concerned, the Indians are ubiquitous.

Match State: Innings Break

5.45: Shane Duffy, Nagenahira coach, said during the innings that 140 would be a par score. So his team should be very pleased with this. Looking at Ruhuna innings, the batsmen struggled to put the slower balls away. The pitch appears sluggish. We'll see if this is good enough score or not. Join us in 10 minutes.

Kavindu: "I think SLPL has adopted too many traits of the IPL. SLPL should just be about Sri lankan cricket, not a mini-IPL. Personally, I don't like the fact that there are cheerleaders. Just because the IPL has gone for those, doesn't mean SL should."
