The four-team provincial Twenty20 tournament that replaces this year's Sri Lanka Premier League will run from August 10 to 17, Sri Lanka Cricket has confirmed. All seven matches in the league will take place at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, and the winning side will earn a trip to India for the Champions League qualifiers in September.

The tournament will also give Sri Lanka's young batting group further leadership experience. Angelo Mathews will captain the Basnahira Greens, Dinesh Chandimal the Uthura Yellows, Lahiru Thirimanne the Kandurata Maroons and Lasith Malinga will lead the Ruhuna Reds. Each team plays each other once, before the two top sides qualify for the final.

The selectors have chosen preliminary squads of 17-18 players for each team, with the final 15-man squads to be named in the next two days.

The SLPL had been scheduled to be played from August 10 to September 7, but was called off after all eight franchises refused to pay their tournament fee, and also failed to guarantee player payments.

I think the Indians are becoming and building their youngsters while we are struggling with money and organizers. If only SL government related powerful people also pushes to support cricket like rugby. Indians are playing plenty of first class test cricket. we should rebuild are school system which has been praised by many in the past. Now are school system is not producing results.

I guess DOmingo(SA Head Coach)preparing SA team for 2015.No tsobe untill he is on good shape. They are gonna take him to standard to beat the any batsman..Look at dumb SLC.What they do is making malinga(one of the key striker from 2 pace bowlers that could take wicket),is captaining one side for CPL and t20(Domestic).Who gonna claim for another WC lost? What SLC players need is not matches,is to brush their self and groom youngsters to perfection.Instead of that, poor management(who failed to organised SLPL for twice out of three occasion) is making all available resources to win CPL?I dont think neither team do that either.ANyway god speed to SL Players who trying hard to win the game

Only 9 games in total (6 league games, 2 semis and the final). Is this has something to do with lack of sponsors? By the way why not Thisara Perera has been given a chance to captain a side? In T20 format his place in the 11 is more secured than the likes of Chandi, Thiri and Anji

Where is the Negenahira team? and why only four teams? have we got no more 'captains'?

This is poor from SLC.Sri lanka team should groom for the World cup not for champions league..Where are these youngsters gonna get good pratice session..I dont think sri lanka can effort to loose tallents like dinesh and thirimanna even they didnt perform well in intl.they need some pratice and time with coaches. As well as other players to rest and correct their running repairs on their techniques..ANyway good to see youngsters captaining but i dont need tournament without planing atleast 30 players for good traning session with consistatent rest.Without rest and fittness lasith maling will bowl at speed of 120kmh in world cup.likely to get beaten. For well of Sl team,I like to see 50 man squad, training atleast for one month with superior coaches. Then only even we can watch good quality cricket in t20 league as well as good team to promote to CPL.

Anyway..lack of mind set again shown by SLC

well one thing for sure JAHAN MUBARAK AND RAMITH RABUKWELL will be in this squads . doesn,t matter what ever the runs they have got.. srilankan cricket just become with lots off jokes, than real good players. when mahela ,sanga, and dilshan leave forget about it.

It's always good to give the opportunity for young talent than who are in the end of their careers. Kandamby, Mahroof and Kapu are talented players but it's better if they give the opportunity to the young starts. That's when SL Cricket will get a bright future. Chandimal, Thirimanne and Kusal Janith must be failing but you should not take them off from the national side or doubt them. Because they will be the next Mahela, Sanga and Sana.
