Sri Lanka offer to host Asia Cup, World T20

Sri Lanka have offered to host this year's Asia Cup and the World Twenty20 as an alternative to Bangladesh, the scheduled hosts.

Bangladesh's right to host both events is in danger following violence caused by political strikes and blockades in the country. In December, the West Indies Under-19 team pulled out of their tour and returned home after an explosion near the team hotel in Chittagong.

As a result, there is some early anxiety over the year's first international fixture in the country, a bilateral series against Sri Lanka this month, which starts on January 27. The Asia Cup is to be held between February 24 and March 7, with the World T20 starting nine days later.

Sri Lanka Cricket said that while it is ready to host the two events at short notice, their own tour to Bangladesh hinges on security advice.

"We are ready to host the Asia Cup if the ACC wants another venue," SLC secretary Nishantha Ranatunga told AFP. "We have the grounds and the necessary infrastructure to host an event like that at short notice. We are also ready to host the World Twenty20 if we are asked."

An Asian Cricket Council (ACC) meeting in Colombo on Saturday will discuss the security situation in Bangladesh, with the BCB having prepared a detailed security report for the regional body.

The Pakistan Cricket Board, meanwhile, has also said it will seek its government's directive regarding a trip to Bangladesh, after a protest group tried to march towards the Pakistan High Commission late last month.

both World T20 and Asia cup should be removed from Bangladesh or else Pakistan Should not participate, our players lives are also precious.

yes if it is not Bangladesh, it should be Sri Lanka. With ground facilities & everything can be found in well inside SL. Other than that, as there is no political or racial issues in SL all the other countries are also comfortable to come & play. Yes next option should be UAE as a neutral venue. Any hope both these two series will take place in Bangla or SL & thanks for the comments pakistani friends!

I don't think bangladesh is unsafe for cricket. The people who are saying that it should be in uae, have not watched 2011 world cup.

Good initiative by SL offering to host these tournaments. If an Asian Country is in trouble mainly due to politics, other Asian countries should try to assist in conducting these tournaments. It would have been good to invite Nepal too for the Asia cup after their fine performances in the recent past

Not SL! I suspect the ICC, particularly guys like BCCI,CA,NZC,CSA&ECB are all quiet in the knowledge that a last minute alternative venue will inevitably have to be organised, and because Ind,NZ,Aus&Eng are all taken care of in terms of international events, South Africa is secretly on standby. That's why they were "shortchanged" in the allocations of world cups over the next few years.

The best thing I feel is for BD to act swiftly&swap the WC with ZIM(used to conditions) so that at least they will host the next qualifiers, which will give them a much greater chance of qualifying for the main tournament easily twice, as the other teams will no doubt be stronger by then. ENG have no reason to boycott ZIM now after the likes of Aus-A,NZ,SA-A&Pak have played there recently, while SL had no problem in fulfilling the cancelled tour.

Only factor might be upgrading Mutare Sports Club for the 3rd venue, but there's enough time for small improvements. Otherwise expect this T20WC to be in SA.

The political hiccup will all end after the Jan 5th elections.

I would request patience from the entire world. Bangladesh will host both the Asia Cup and the World Twenty20, and the touring Sri Lankan team.

This is our year for cricket, not Sri Lanka's, and not any other nation's.

Bangladesh has got political unrest at the moment; but no terrorism. So, no cricket team will be targeted, and the government is quite capable of ensuring security. Once the election (tomorrow, 05.01) is over, the situation will calm down.

they should move to UAE, as its perfect for these tournament, crowds is easily accesable, no issue with the weather, sri lanka had already hosted it last time.
