India Under-19s' seamers shared seven wickets between them as they bowled their side to a five-wicket win over Sri Lanka Under-19s in the final of the Tri-Nation Under-19s tournament. Taking the new ball after Sri Lanka chose to bat, Avesh Khan and the left-armer Khaleel Ahmed struck early, decisive blows to leave the hosts 23 for 4 within the tenth over of the innings. Sri Lanka never really recovered from there, with wicketkeeper Vishad Randika's 75-ball 58 (7x4) the only substantial innings in a total of 158. They were bowled out with 16 balls remaining. Khaleel finished with three wickets while Avesh, Shubham Mavi and the left-arm spinner Mayank Dagar bagged two each.

India's chase was anchored by the opener Washington Sundar, who made his third half-century of the tournament. Sundar made 56 off 77 balls (6x4) and added 89 for the first wicket with Rishabh Pant (35). Left-arm spinner Damitha Silva caused a mild wobble, picking up three wickets as India slipped from 111 for 1 to 155 for 5, but it was never going to cause undue concern with the target only 159. India eventually got home in the 34th over of their innings.

Well played India...won all matches in this tourny and cup too...This shows the bench strength of India and neighbours.

Well done to the lads. Nice team combination for WC preps. India needs one good spinner. We have not seen one good performance of note.

@Anshu S , Virat Sing is a better choice than Khare I think.Mayank Dagar and Mahipal Loumror will be the strength of this team both are genuine bowlers ( left arm and legspin) who can bat well. Sundar also can contribute with ball.So it will be a perfectly balanced team. Rahul Batham is a pace bowling all rounder i guess who will add depth to the bowling variations.

@jaggi.jagan :The name Washington was given by his father who wanted to pay homage to his mentor named PD Washington. @FIGHTCLUB_99 : Yes trimming the squad to 15 will be a tough task but if i have to hazard a guess 4 out of 5 names to be cut will be Virat Singh,Himanshu Rana,Kanishk Seth,Yogesh Sharma.

    Good show.

Someone like Dravid should be empowered to monitor the progress of such talents from Under-19, to under-23, to India-A.

Whoever he may be, should also be an invited member of the team of national selectors, as usually the national captain used to be.

More happy for Dravid than the U19 boys. He has knack to pick the most extraordinary talents. Hope he unearths a fast bowler.

I am quite intrigued by this bloke, Washington Sundar, both for his name and also by his batting abilities ! This kid is going to get a little interesting in the years to come ! I am sure there will be articles on his first name !

The selectors will have a hard time trimming down this 20-member squad to 15 for the WC. Who will be the unlucky ones to miss out?
