A record 14 wickets in the match from Lions pacer Kagiso Rabada charged them to a 10-wicket win against Dolphins. He took a staggering 9 for 33 in second innings to restrict Dolphins to 134, setting Lions a target of 16 which was surpassed with ease.
Opting to bat, Dolphins put on a respectable 302 on the back of Cody Chetty's 106 and an unbeaten fifty from Daryn Smit (60). Rabada claimed 5 for 72 and was supported by Hardus Viljoen's 4 for 52. A hundred from opener Stephen Cook - 122 off 200 balls - led Lions' strong reply of 421, supported by fifties from Alviro Petersen (68), Chris Morris (57) and Temba Bavuma (51).
Already trailing by 119, Dolphins were demolished for 134 by Rabada, his 9 for 33 was a personal best and a Lions record in first-class cricket. A match-haul of 14 for 105 bettered his idol Dale Steyn's 14 for 110 seven seasons ago to become the best figures in the franchise era.
Opener Divan van Wyk made 56, but it was of little consequence as Rabada ran rampant in his second spell - six wickets in as many overs - and ensured no fewer than eight batsmen bagged single-figure scores.
In Kimberley, Knights' last-wicket pair, Malusi Siboto and Duanne Olivier, held out for four overs to secure a draw against Cape Cobras. Knights had looked to be in a good position to win, chasing 290 in the fourth innings, but they slipped from 247 for 5 to 254 for 9, with Travis Muller taking four wickets in two overs.
Muller finished with a five-wicket haul but neither he nor Dane Paterson (3 for 74) could make the final breakthrough. The draw leaves Cobras bottom of the table, while Knights moved above Warriors to fourth.
Andrew Puttick scored a century in each innings, declaring with Cobras on 299 for 7 on the final day. His partner overnight, Omphile Ramela, fell for 80, before Siboto and Werner Coetsee took two wickets apiece to prevent Cobras getting away. Coetsee then put on 105 for the sixth-wicket with Obus Pienaar (83) as Knights closed 27 short of victory.
Knights had gained a slim, 10-run lead on first innings after 74 from Coetsee and 62 from No. 8 Shadley van Schalkwyk had helped raise them from 182 for 6 in response to Cobras' 294. Puttick, who made exactly 100, was the only batsman to pass 35 but his efforts were not enough to earn Cobras their first win of the season.
