Even nowadays many players are capable of bowling pace, spin, wrist spin, batting left & right. I do them all, but the whole thing is that, the coaches curb all natural instincts & then we become normal players. Sir Gary's period was good, he could try all his wares in test matches & become a legend. If he were a player of this generation he too would have got curbed & he would never have become such a great.

Why Ben stokes & not the current world no. 1 allrounder R. Ashwin?

Is there something really wrong with these experts and commentators today. Couple of days of these former Kangaroos were comparing R Harris with great fast bowler M Marshall and Smith with Ricky Ponting and now this...

Even joking about this is out of line..... Stokes compared to Sobers? Even his first class record is nowhere near comparable

Yes. I plead guilty. The title itself really rankled me so much and got my goat, that I typed out the commnet immediately. Only later, when I cooled down, I heard the whole report, and I agree, the comment is dripping with sarcasm. Sorry, Kimber.

This only confirms what I said about English sports writers' tendency to exaggerate English sportspersons' performances. In the last couple of years, we had the 'world's best spinner' Greame Swann, 'world's best fast bowler' James Anderson, 'world's best batsman' Alaister Cook and 'Alastair Cook's 2013 Invincibles'. Now Ben Stokes is Gary Sobers while Imran Khan, Ian Botham, Richard hadlee and Kapil Dev were not

Oh please put this pressure on the guy, he'll be a flash in the pan in no time at all.

People, if you listen closely to what he's saying you will realize that the statement is obviously sarcastic. LOL. No need to be ranting.

Everyone seemed to have missed the point that its an intentional joke. He knows England are done.
