Shahzad, Nabi give Afghanistan huge win

ESPNcricinfo staff

Afghanistan 289 for 4 (Shahzad 113, Nabi 81*) beat Namibia 99 (Nabi 5-12) by 190 runs

Mohammad Nabi's all-round brilliance handed Namibia a crushing 190-run loss in the WCL Championship in Windhoek, giving Afghanistan two points and keeping them at the fifth place in the points table, one point behind UAE. Nabi scored an unbeaten 81 off 45 and bagged a five-wicket haul, his first in List A matches, to bowl out Namibia to 99.

Afghanistan lost Nawroz Mangal early after they were asked to bat but Mohammad Shahzad and Karim Sadiq put together a 110-run stand in 23.3 overs. Sadiq was bowled for 50 and Asghar Stanikzai scored only 12 before Nabi joined Shahzad in the 35th over at the score of 158. Shahzad marched to his century, scoring 113 off 130, and Nabi smashed four fours and five sixes from there to lead Afghanistan to 289 as they scored 89 in the last ten overs.

Namibia couldn't get any sizable partnership going from the beginning once Hamid Hassan broke the opening stand in the ninth over. Only four of their batsmen reached double figures, Stephan Baard top-scoring with 30, as their middle order crumbled with the introduction of Nabi's offspin in the 17th over. His 8.1 overs included two maidens which helped stifle the Namibia batsmen as he gave only 12 runs for his five wickets.

Well done Afghanistan, especially Karim. I think Karim was the main factor for this win. Because, he played with so much patient, took ones and twoes and kept the partnership going when Afghans' lost the first wicket in quick session. In addition, Shazad showed that he can be the oppenner for the team. Cause, he was carefull, aggressive when need it and thought for well fare of his team and believing on playing a big play. So it showed more perfection in his show. Also, Nabi you are a brilliant assest to the team. Mr. Nabi can assissted the situation like a well profissional Captain and used the opportunities reall well. So fantastic/profissional show from all of you. At the end thanks from ESPN/cricinfo. for coveragin the match and all those foreigners fans who support our team. From Ghamai

This Afghanistan team has some serious talent in it. I have been impressed every time I have seen them. I am really looking forward to seeing them play in the 2015 World Cup. I'm sure they will do themselves and their supporters proud.

WCL should get more attention from media because this is a world cup qualifying tournament. People have their attention already on WCL. My support is on Afghanistan because their aggressiveness reminds me Sri Lankans in 1996 world cup. And if they do the same, it will be legend more greater. And I think if there are some WCD1 teams which can make a surprise in WC, Afghanistan will be clearly one them...All the best guys...

I believe if we WIN the last match with a good margin we will qualify for World Cup directly, other teams do have the best practising facilities but we Afghans we have aggression, Belief and Ability to win. All the best Team Afghanistan.
