Playing Role

Allrounder

A tall offspin-bowling allrounder, Roston Chase earned the nickname "Crisis Man" after bailing out Barbados and West Indies on a number of occasions.

It didn't take him long to show that he could succeed at the top level. In his second Test, at Sabina Park in 2016, he became the fourth West Indian, after Denis Atkinson, Collie Smith and Garry Sobers, to take five wickets and score a hundred in a Test; he bowled more overs than anyone else in India's only innings in that match and batted through all of the fifth day to score an unbeaten 137 and lead his side to an improbable draw.

Chase pulled off that feat again the following year against Pakistan in Roseau, where he made 101 not out, exactly half of his team's total in the innings, but they failed to chase down a daunting 304. Chase scored three centuries in his first nine Tests, but managed only two more in his next 40 games.

In a surprise move in May 2025, he was named West Indies' Test captain, though he had not played a Test match in the two years leading up to the appointment. In his third match as captain, he oversaw his team collapse for 27 all out in 14.3 overs against Australia, the second-lowest total in all of Test cricket.

After starting his CPL career with his home franchise, Barbados, Chase moved to St Lucia Kings, where he grew into a senior figure under Daren Sammy. His all-round effort in 2024 was central to Kings toppling Guyana Amazon Warriors in Guyana for their maiden CPL title.
