Ronsford Beaton, the 24-year old fast bowler from Guyana, is the only uncapped member in the West Indies squad for the three T20Is against Afghanistan in St Kitts from June 2.

Beaton has picked up 31 wickets in 36 T20s, with a best of 4 for 9, and has represented Guyana Amazon Warriors and Trinbago Knight Riders in the CPL.

Kieron Pollard, Sunil Narine, Lendl Simmons and Marlon Samuels, all of whom played the IPL, were retained from the squad that lost 2-1 to Pakistan. Jonathan Carter, Andre Fletcher and Veerasammy Permaul were left out. Jason Holder, the ODI captain, was rested.

"After the T20 series against Pakistan, we felt that it was important to keep the same group together so that the coaches can continue developing the young players," the chairman of the selection panel Courtney Browne said. "This coupled with the vast T20 experience of some of our senior players can help us to build a very formidable unit.

"In developing a high performance unit there is never room for complacency and our expectation is to win against a team that is ranked lower than us in the ICC rankings."

West Indies will be hosting a bilateral series against Afghanistan for the first time. The tour, which also includes three ODIs, will take place concurrently with the Champions Trophy, which begins on June 1 in England. West Indies, who have not won a bilateral ODI series since 2014 when they Bangladesh at home, failed to qualify for the eight-team event.

Afghanistan famously beat West Indies by six runs the last time they met in a T20I, at the 2016 World T20 in India.

Courtney Browne how come you didn't name a 15 member squad like you did last time as cover for certain players IF THEY DIDN"T SHOW UP or withdraw at the last moment ? or are you CERTAIN this time around that they WILL play or have you indeed have another 4 or is 5 on your short list ? Courtney Browne would it be much better to select players in future who you won't have to be wondering if they would show up or withdraw at the last moment and stop thinking about relaxing the policy on ODI selection? ....and what do you ,your fellow selectors and the Board plan do about the EXPRESSIONS on the SENIOR players faces and the lack of intensity in their movements when Carlos was setting the field? much to the delight of one MNGC! on this blog and who even took delight in the lack of chemistry on the field ? Courtney Browne those players showed NO INTEREST in the TEAM and lack respect for the captain...yet you picked them again ..WHY ?????????

Ronsford Beaton should have been in all format in west indies team for the matter of facts he should have been pick a long time ago, Y Singh of indian say that he is very good bowler , but west indies selector never listen, i Think Mr Brown is now doing a good job, also in will soon find the right combination

Afghanistan beat the WEST INDIES in a T20I with Lewis,Charles,Fletcher,Samuels,Ramdin,D J Bravo,Russell,SAMMY CAPTAIN,Carlos,Benn and Badree. West Indies were bowled out for 98 in an ODI with Gayle,Charles,DM Bravo,Samuels,Pollard,Simmons,DJ Bravo,Sammy,Roach,Holder,Narine . WI chased down 307 in an ODI AND WON with HOLDER as captain and with NONE of the above...yet people want them back in the WI team...I say...TO DO WHAT ??? Those players who were INVOLVED in that RECORD CHASE should therefore play in ALL OF THE ODIs against Afghanistan.

So WHNS vast experience qualifies somebody to be Captain does it? Brian Lara, Chandrapaul, Gayle vast experience , success rate no better than anybody else. Sammy started poorly he learnt over time and improve immensely. The time you take to worry about how many Barbadians are in any West Indies Team is amazing. Trinidadians has made up the bulk of the Team in the shorter formats for years now and guess what we dropped to 8th with them. So all I am suggesting as I have said for the last few months is the team construct will widen over time. Of course players from the other islands have got to start matching and surpassing the performances of Barbadians. I could take you back years where Barbadians weren't selected , because proven failures were preferred. Just take it easy Jason Mohammed just Captained a West Indies A-Team in the one day leg of a tour a few months ago. I wasn't aware

@wnhs. Did you see the lack of chemistry on the field in the T20 series? The look on the senior players' faces when Carlos was setting the field? Lack of intensity in their movements. That was an unbonded XI put together and Carlos should never have been captain..

CRICINFOUSER. Isn't Johnson Charles a 2 time T20 WC winner with vast experience? Wasn't Ashley Nurse on the bench last T20 world cup without ever getting a game and is vastly inexperienced? Isn't Fletcher an experienced player in the T20 format as well? I can guarantee you i'm not insular, I was pointing out a disturbing trend in WI cricket currently. If you would remember after the Pakistan T20 series I specifically laid blame on Pollard and Simmons for not showing up at all and Simmons scoring 7 runs in 4 games. I asked how can such experience players play so foolishly. I also blamed Simmons' lack of match practice on himself as he was fit to play in the Super50 for T&T and regain match awareness and he decided to play club cricket in T&T. Gimme a break. But I guess Ashley Nurse deserves to be captain also a man who made us forget his name deserves to be captain as well. To think that is being insular my friend.

West Indies may lose this T20 series against Afghanistan because of poor captaincy. Carlos' limited capacity as a captain will be exposed in any game that is close. I don't expect Afghanistan to win any of the games but I will not be surprised when West Indies lose.Carlos' decisions on the field could give the series away. Kieron Pollard is by far the better T20 captain in the West Indies. He should be the captain.

let's wait and see who actually does well this series, maybe they can be the captain.

  • Cricinfouser on May 20, 2017, 16:32 GMT

WHNS what are the credentials of either Charles or. Fletcher as captain of any team ? Even playing in the road.Point being yes you're being insular. If Shamar Brooks is in any team with inexperienced players or players who have never captained anyone anywhere , he will be captain. What you should be focused on is if we can actually beat Afghanistan. What would be your response if they beat us.I'm sure you'll blame every Barbadian you can find. So let's see if the SUPERSTARS perform as such. Or if they just do what they usually do . Which is one half decent performance , then you blame the captain when they don't score runs. Fletcher and Charles should take this as an opportunity to score runs
