World T20 - 17th match, Group 2

India v West Indies

India won by 7 wickets (with 2 balls remaining)

National anthem time. Well, it's a national anthem for India, and Rally Around The West Indies for the men from the Caribbean.

Allen: "Watch out for this santokie lad... he just might show today what a great bargain he has been for Mumbai Indians ( If they ever play him..)"

Chris Gayle and Dwayne Smith stride to the middle, as explosive an opening combination as they come. Smith to take strike, and MS Dhoni is opening with Bhuvneshwar Kumar, from over the wicket.

Toss, 7.10 pm Darren Sammy says West Indies feel ready as a team and that they have prepared as well as they can. Dhoni says his team is relaxed, and that there's n good reason to be tense at the moment.

India have won the toss and are bowling first. This is the same pitch that was used for the Australia-Pakistan game earlier today. Dhoni thinks there will be a little dew - not too much, he says - and that might help the ball come on better on to the bat later in the evening. India are playing an unchanged XI, so Yuvraj gets a chance to improve on an extremely poor performance against Pakistan.

West Indies have left out Ravi Rampaul - surprising? - Sheldon Cottrell, Andre Fletcher and Johnson Charles from their XI.

Ranjith P: "I guess playing the second match in the day is advantageous for the teams. They can get a feel of the pitch from the first match and then make decisions such as to go with extra spinner or to bat first or second"

Mark: "A lot of people seemed to think that Australia just needed to turn up to win this tournament. They have just shown why I was sceptical about their chances. I suspect that these will be the two teams to watch from the group."

6.55 pm Good evening and welcome to ESPNcricinfo's ball-by-ball coverage of the match between West Indies and India in Mirpur, close on the heels of a firecracker of a match between Australia and Pakistan. India won their first match of the Super 10 stage, against Pakistan, and West Indies are playing their first game today.

Martin Crowe and Daryll Cullinan will be previewing the game on our live Match Point show.

India played three spinners in their previous game and it worked superbly for them. Will they persist with the strategy even though they are playing under lights? Dew might be a factor today.

LMP Simmons    15* (19b 1x4)      A Mishra    4-0-18-2
AD Russell    7* (4b 1x6)      RA Jadeja    3-0-27-1

satish: "Jadeja, that no-ball cost me 70 points you know :(" Such is life and fantasy cricket.

19.1

Jadeja to Russell, OUT, Russel slogs across the line and like so many others before him, he mis-times it. Kohli gets under it at deep midwicket and takes the catch comfortably

AD Russell c Kohli b Jadeja 7 (4m 5b 0x4 1x6) SR: 140.00

19.2

Jadeja to Simmons, SIX, a bit too short, Simmons winds up and pulls hard, launching the ball over the deep midwicket boundary, Jadeja's not bowled at the right pace on this pitch. A bit too quick

19.3

Jadeja to Simmons, SIX, that's also travelled far, Simmons lays into a full ball, getting under it and smashing it over long on

19.4

Jadeja to Simmons, 1 wide, that's a marginal call from the umpire, it wasn't outside the guide line but the bowler had been penalised

19.4

Jadeja to Simmons, OUT, caught at backward point, Dhawan fumbles but holds on! Simmons slogged once again but top edged it this time. the fielder moved from cover point to backward point and took it

LMP Simmons c Dhawan b Jadeja 27 (27m 22b 1x4 2x6) SR: 122.72

19.5

Jadeja to Narine, 1 wide, wide outside off stump, this is definitely wide

19.5

Jadeja to Narine, SIX, Narine tees off this time, using the angle into him from over the wicket, moving forward and smashing it over deep square leg

Jessie Abel: "Can't understand Dhoni here. How do you not bowl out a bowler with figures of 3-0-3-0 while giving the final over to the least economical bowler of the day?"

Shafaat: "Kumar 3 overs for 3 runs and Dhoni goes to Jadeja!"

19.6

Jadeja to Narine, 1 run, driven through cover point for a single

9.02 pm West Indies finish with 129. Definitely below par despite the slowness of the surface, and it's been inflated by a poor final over from Jadeja, who conceded 21 runs. I'll be back in ten minutes for the chase.

Rohit: "Lets be honest. Jadeja's penultimate over would have only gone for 3 had he kept his foot inside the line. Do we really expect Bhuvi to give less than three in the last over (despite being brilliant upfront). To me it would have had to be Shami or Jaddu."

Narine: "That is Dhoni for you. He likes to take risk. Sometimes it pays off and sometimes it hits back bad. Amit Mishra on 7th over paid off well despite dropped chances and Jadeja on 20th over was a bad one. "

PK: "Guys, let's just go easy on Jadeja here. You don't know Bhuvi might have conceded 20 runs in his last over too. The pitch is a paradise for spinners and thats probably why Dhoni used Jadeja over Bhuvi"

When it's all said and done, India have done fabulously to restrict West Indies, despite several dropped catches.

End of over 20 (21 runs) West Indies 129/7
SP Narine    7* (2b 1x6)      RA Jadeja    4-0-48-3
D Ramdin    0* (0b)      A Mishra    4-0-18-2
