A prancing offspinner and hard-hitting lower-order batsman, Dave Rundle was one of South Africa's leading slow bowlers in the late 1980s and early 90s but their readmission into the international fold coincided with his loss of form. Originally a middle-order batsman, Rundle took up spin in his late teens and relied on flight rather than turn. He was picked for the South African XI in an unofficial `Test' against Mike Gatting's rebels in 1989-90 but took just one wicket in six overs on a pitch which was a seamers' paradise. He toured Australia in 1993-94 where he made his only two one-day appearances taking five wickets at 19.00, but conceding almost six-an-over he was not considered again.
