At 6'5" (1.96m) Howard Gardiner can probably claim to be among the tallest first-class wicketkeepers and he also happened to be very good, his keeping to Godfrey Lawrence and Joe Partridge being especially sound and he was also competent standing up to spinners. He was also a capable lower middle-order batsman. After retiring he became an umpire and was also managing director of BOC Zimbabwe Ltd.
